    Alternative Goblins

I picked up a massive amount of Warmaster a few years ago for a fairly good price (free! ) and I've decided that as my new years resolution I'm going to actually get them built up and painted. Then I will worry about finding players, but I reckon with 3 large armies to choose from I may be able to encourage some other players to try it.

Trouble is, the Orc army only has 1 blister of Goblins so I'll need a few more to meet the minimum requirements. I could splash out on the GW ones, but the last Epic stuff I bought was of questionable casting quality. I've since heard that given GW's lack of interest in Specialist Games the molds are starting to show their age with little chance of replacement.

Does WM items suffer from poor casting these days?

Any (cheaper!) alternative figures for Goblins available out there?

    Thanks.

It's true that some ranges, particularly the more popular armies and units (including goblins!) are turning up more and more flash now as the moulds age. I would expect the warmaster range to suddenly disappear this year without warning so I'd buy everything you need now!

Try Copplestone castings 10mm fantasy range orcs - they're very good. Also BOFA plastic goblins are good and cheap if you can find them (e bay?).

Welcome to the best game that GW have ever produced!!!!

    BOFA? Nope, lost me.

No gobbos from Copplestone, but how to the half orcs size up? Too big, too armoured?

I've wanted to play WM since it was first released, but trying to get others to play was like pulling teeth!

BOFA: Battle of Five Armies, GW's 10mm LoTR Game. Some good stuff for Warmaster.

Doh! Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for them.

For the record it also turns out I'm short a unit of crossbowmen too for the Empire. Any alternate suggestions would be also be appreciated.

Kallistra has some possibilities in their H&H Historicals.

Sorry, yes it was the half orcs I was recommending. They look different so I wouldn't order more than 1 strip before you jump in and get loads. As to the match - it's a matter of taste. Some of my gaming group use loads of copplestone figs and love them. Others are purists and only use original GW Warmaster figures. It's down to taste and budget!

    Re: Alternative Goblins

If you are interested in non-GW 10mm fantasy miniatures , Goblins in particular, you have some alternatives.

Kallistra Miniatures, their fantasy range has Orcs but not Goblins. Many miniatures are the same as Pendraken Miniatures (they had some kind of deal in the past. Pendraken produces 3 ranges of Orcs, 1 of Goblins and 1 of Hobgoblins.
Magister Militum sells only Orcs, Elves and Cavemen.
Eureka Miniatures produces a lot of 10mm but unfortunately no Goblins!
Mark Copplestone too has a small but very nice fantasy range.

On this blog you can see size comparisons between ranges (you need to scroll down a bit).
An even better page with all the fantasy 10mm ranges. The GFI miniatures shown in this page aren't anymore available, if I'm remember correctly GFI was acquired by Caliver Books but I can't find trace of these miniatures on the site.

    Hope it helps.

That is excellent, thanks very much to all the replies. Busy gluing together undead and empire at the moment to get both up to 2000 points. Once they are done I'll start looking for the extra units to sort the orcs. Reckon with one or two purchases I can get them all up to 3000 points.
