Hiya,

Goat of Yuggoth suggested some things to practice and so I tried a howling griffon terminator.
He isn't finished yet as I don't have all the paints I need. I think he is probably better painted than my orc but he came out a lot darker. I think I prefer the brighter yellow and red on the orc.
I also tried a dark angel. Again I haven't finished his gun and club yet as I need some more paints!
I missed a big line on him too but I live and learn!
I think when I've finished these two I will try and paint something a bit brighter!
I hope you like them and I hope you will share your advice.
Thankyou
The termie looks great, you going to be painting his Crux Terminatus? as to the Dark Angel you thought about washing the robes? Nice start though mate![]()
Thank you!
I'm hoping to improve LOL
I will be painting his cross, I'm just not sure what colour. I did the one on the Dark Angel in red but that obviously won't work on him. I was thinking a gold colour on the terminator cross?

Most players do it a bone colour but it's totally upto youjust make it look how you want it to and no-one can fault you

Oooh, grroovy!
I like how the terminator turned out so far, the yellow in particular looks really good! The red is dark in comparison, but it's fine as you get that bright/dark contrast anyway with those two colours
The washing and the highlighting is way better as I see it, I'm not going to complain about your good efforts! I see you took the practising makes perfect advice to good use!
But I'm not sold on the cloak of that Dark Angel, the shadows are a bit too steep. A wash might do it, yes, but I think your problem is the basecoat here. If you start white/whiteish things with a dark basecoat, you'll have to stick with deep shadows. What I'd do is I'd take a light colour (f.ex Bleached Bone or Dheneb Stone), work the area over with that until it's smooth, highlight a bit and finish off with a wash or two! Simple and effective, and fast to boot!
Well, that's all the advice this time around, can't wait to see more! This is getting better by the day!
Cheers,
Goat

I'm crazy and I'm Finnish. Don't blame me, it's the polar bears!
Wow thankyou Goat of Yuggoth!
You're right I did start off with black on the cloak and then brown. I painted that to dheneb stone, washed it brown and went back to dheneb stone. So it does have a big change in the shadow of the cloak.
I think Id like to practice that.
Im thinking about getting a wizard model!
That will give me chance to practice on cloaks, what do you think?
Thankyou
Shush
I got my metal paints today (yay) so here is my finished Howling Griffon.![]()
Unfortunately I don't have the knight transfer for his shoulder but I'm hoping to swap for one at the weekend
I decided on doing a sort of moon base for him because I wasn't too sure what else to do! A little of bleached bone colour is added on the yellow highlight too and I like it a bit better now.
So, I think next I might try something a bit different to the space marines.
Looking forward to your help and advice!
Thank you
The final highlight on the yellow makes it "pop" for me! How about a similar thing for the red parts, try mixing some orangey or fleshy colour to your main red and repeat the process. Would make the material for the yellow and the red arnour look more similar.
The metallics look really good! Keep those coming!
As for the wizard model, sounds like a plan! You can also practise your colour harmony theories and such, try listening to Beasts of War's recent yotube video series about the color usage.
The new plastic Necromancer is a good model for robes, as you can try out all sorts of things due to the different layers of robes the model has. It's also quite affordableBut some other model will suffice as well, after all it's just to practice painting skill, not for a particular army!
Cheers,
Goatee

Thanks for more good advice. I've started watching the Beasts of War movies.
I might get the Necromancer on Saturday
Hopefully I'll get the transfer then too and I'll do a bit more on the red parts of the terminator at the same time.
In the meantime I've been giventhis guy! Jersey Shore man!
He doesn't have any robed but there's lots of skin to practice on so I think that will be good. He's already undercoated black but a bit dusty! I'm not sure if you shouldn't undercoat the skin white but hopefully it'll be OK![]()
I haven't got as much painting done as I'd like recently. I think my hands have shook a little, nobody warned me how addictive this might be!
I have tried a little red highlight on the howling griffon by adding a little elf flesh and then a little bleached bone, just to see. I quite like it!
I finally got the transfer and put it on I need to paint over it black, I think (you can do that I hope).
I have also painted my first skin on Jersey Shore man. I have realised he's supposed to have some sort of shield. Sadly, I don't have that!
I like the skin, it just doesn't look that much like skin....
I guess it is all practice though. I have been practicing more mixing of my paint which I like doing a lot. I think I need to learn to get smoother transitions between layers.
Thankyou for looking. Your comments and criticism are very welcome, I really want to improve!![]()
That yellow is great - a tough colour to do properly, and I think you've done a mad jobAnd I really love that darkish flesh tone on the Marauder. Very cool.
Those who know don't care any more, and those who care don't know.
Thankyou for your kind comments New Cult King
Here is my latest model, finished but not based. I might try and get better pictures when the sun is up!
I'm sad to say I really did not enjoy painting him that much.I don't have the shield to put on him and with the very big axe he looks kind of off balance and a bit silly I think.
He looks OK and not so much like a 'toy' as my Orc does. I went for more subdued colour and tried to make things a bit 'realler' but this doesn't come out so well in my pictures
I'm not sure exactly why I didn't enjoy painting him so much as I did get to try skin, which was a good thing.
I have a wizard box with two wizards to build or I could do another terminator now. I'm thinking probably a wizard and then a terminator. Any suggestions would be very welcome!
Please, if you have any advice or comment on my painting so far it is very welcome!
Thankyou for looking

Hello,
Sorry no pictures with this update!
I have decided to paint another terminator and then a wizard. Then a terminator and then a wizard.
As white and black both look quite hard to paint well I would like to practice these. So if anybody could suggest interesting armys for these terminators to belong to that would be great!
Edit..... I think the first terminator will be a White Scar
The second will be a Templar
For the wizards I think I will do a fire wizard and a celestial wizard. These will let me practice more on my red and blues. Also I'm hoping painting the robes will help me smooth out my painting.
The skin on the wizards should be a little different to my marauder too. I think a sort of flushed pinkish skin for the fire wizard? Maybe a pale skin for the celestial wizard as they are observing the stars and inside reading books I think they would be quite pale!?
Any suggestions are gratefully received!
Thankyou,
Shush

Hello,
I have made a start on the Whitescars terminator. He needs a couple more coats of white and I think he will be there. I thought I would post my work as I am quite pleased with him so far!
I am enjoying painting terminators much more than the marauder. I must admit I did cheat a little and had a look at this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiF3gD8Bqnw
A tutorial on painting them! Though I did change the recipe a little bit and used some devlan mud ink along with the black as I didn't like just the black
Any advice you might have for finishing him is gratefully received. I am thinking gold for his eagle and badge. I think I will paint his claws and eyes purple but I would really like advice for that!
Thankyou for looking

No shame in looking at others work..
I tried Warlock Purple on my Snotlings yesterday and didn't like to work with that color consistency at all. On the black primer it was very hard to get any coverage. With water it was like painting a wash with very little difference but adding a floaty thickness, and with less water it was very hard to get in smooth layers. I guess I need to practice more or get more patience. Anyway, you might want to coat in another color before applying purple, if using GW colors.

Hiya,
Too much time spent messing about and not enough time painting
Here's my White scar I finally got the white how I liked it
I need to do some more on the red and his claws purple but I need more paints for that. Ive had a problem with him coming unstuck when I paint him which has been very frustrating
So, as I was annoyed and needed other paints I started a tiranid too ! Probably not a good idea to do two at once but I love this model so much!
I think if I ever did an army I'd probably do these.
I think I'll paint the tiranid legs purple but I really like the blue so far!
Any comments are very welcome![]()
The new model looks great so far. I like the subtle hues of the plates.

the terminators you've painted look really good! I love the howling griffon colour scheme, I'd do tat if I ever collected a space marine army. You've done a great job on the white scar. Layering up that white paint from a black undercoat must have taken you a fairly long time! Great work on the carapace of the tyranid too, I look forward to seeing them finished!
when taking pics it would be easier for you to get the models in focus better if you zoomed out a bit. Make sure you use the macro function (flower symbol). I also find putting a sheet of white paper behind the models, and lighting them from the front with a desk light helps alot. In focus shots from further away is better than blurry photos close in in my opinion.

Need to second the comment about focal point. These minis look to good to be blurred.
If you want you can crop the photos instead. What camera do you use?
