The problem with the clean, brighter reds and yellows is that the current pigments used in making them are organic types with high oil absorption. This limits the amounts of pigment you can put into a paint without affecting the gloss, durability or making them too thick to use. Previously lead chromates were used but the toxicity of lead has made them extemely undesirable - very few people would buy paints with a skulls and crossbones label.

I suspect the current reds/yellows are about as good as they can make them without incurring much higher costs or rendering them unusable.

Yet privateer seems to produce superior reds and yellows...

Though on the other hand, GW has vastly superior metallics.

Any news on if they're stopping the availability of any of the other items that are would be effected by a paint range change?

Such as, off the top of my head:

The Paint Station(+) - Designed to hold the current paint pot sizes.

The Spray Gun - Designed to work with the current paint consistency.

The 'How to Paint' Books - Designed to work with the current paint range.

If it appears that any of these items become difficult to order, it may point us in the direction GW is heading...

A change in range doesn't really effect any of those items beyond the how to paint book.

The HTP book might reference colour names which continue to exist (I entirely suspect it will do so and remain unchainged).

The spraygun requires you to thin the current paints, so no change there.

The paint station... Well. I can't imagine paint pots becoming wider or thinner really. I expect the pots will still fit.

The Foundation paint pots are smaller than the other pots, as are Cote D'Arms ones, and they all fit fine and don't wobble around that much.

The spray gun isn't designed to work with anything specific, really. It's just a rebadged beginner's airbrush (I think a Badger model) in a nice casing.

Personally I would like to see the range expand, not contract as there can't be many, if any colours left that don't get used a lot.

One thing I think they need to do is bring out an Ogre flesh. Just about, if not every other race has a flesh tone.

I would also like to see a Foundation White & Fondation Black - would be extremely useful.

I would also like to see a return to the P3 type pots as for me they are much better than the current ones, or dropper bottles, they would be OK as well.

I guess we'll just have to wait & see what happens, but somehow you just know that whatever happens, it will hit us in the pocket.

Hmmm ... there is actually a pot of "undercoat black" in the newish "paint sets" for Fantasy, 40K and LoTR ... dunno if it's the same than Chaos Black, I haven't recieved my order for one of those sets yet ...

I've got a pot of the undercoat black, it's not quiet the same as chaos black, it's a bit thicker, so i tend to use it on bases etc.

A little birdy told me that far from paints being discontinued, the range is going to triple in size.

I obviously can't independently confirm that.

A little birdy told me that the major change is a change of supplier from a chinese supplier to a US supplier. Much like SunTzu I can't confirm who said it or where.

It doesn't happen to be a Foundation-range black? I love how easily the Foundation paints grip the plastic, you can practically drybrush them on.

Wouldn't be surprised if the "revolution" would be pigments and additives, á la Vallejo range. Pigments have been showing up a lot lately, there's some glaze medium in the fancy 'eavy metal brush set, and besides, you need some matte varnish for the pigments.

Yes, their excuse was that the paints on the tutorials are dated, which is nonsense. Either they've got new paints on the way or they are a bunch of numpties, or both.

I thought the paints were most from a French supplier? All the paints I have immediately at hand have 'Made in France' on them.
