    Obsidians Blood Angels

    Another Year, Another log.

After my parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas I had to give things a little thought...

What would I like to do?

On one hand, I could add more units to my Word Bearers army and continue worshipping the gods of chaos....

On the other hand, I could start up a new army and maybe consider getting back into gaming....

Well, as you are reading THIS project log and not my Word Bearers log, I'm sure that you can guess what I decided on!

A trip into my local GW (Bath) helped me decide on what to collect and I walked out with a box of Sanguinary Guard, then I waited for Christmas and the bounty my parents would bring forth.

I have been painting these since the week before Christmas, so this is what I have to show for 2 weeks work.

It's a lot more than my usual output, however, my PS3 broke and therefore I could not indulge in Skyrim which I also received at the time, so I've pretty much been painting over the holiday season.

Everythings still WIP, the captain is the only fully finished model.

I also have left to paint:

    5 death company
    5 Assault Marines
    10 Tactical Marines
    1 Stormraven

    Enjoy

Good work. I especially like the freehand grail on the terminator and the purpleness of the Saguinary Guards wings.

Thanks for the comments guys, I thought I'd update with a little more stuff for you.

The start of a tactical squad, it's pretty much sorted, just need to highlight blacks and sort out the gold.

I also made a start on the stormraven

So far I'm only dealing with the reds, but it's going ok so far.

    Re: Obsidians Blood Angels

My Sanguinor arrived today, I could have swore that GW made it in finecast, however, it's good old white metal, which meant that I had to spend about 1 hour cleaning it up.

Then I had a nightmare with the spray undercoat, I made a schoolboy error on the jump pack and wings and forgot to give the can a good shake first meaning that the undercoat was all thick and grainy, so I now have to put that section in dettol before I can do anything on it

I couldn't resist making a start on the body though, and pulling in as many references that I could, I have settled on a cross between three styles of NMM.

I'm going for similar technique to the GW NMM Sanguinary Guard however, I couldn't help but take a bit out of this tutorial for inspiration and most definately B&Cs Brassangel and his Sanguinor, which is probably my favourite example so far.

So without further ado, heres the WIP so far, about 2 and a half hours in.

This is my first attempt at a completely NMM model, so please be kind!

    Wow, that's looking great.

Do you have a tutorial for your Sanguinor and the chaplain armour?

Thanks very much Breazer, I agree with you wholeheartedly, I really am curious to see how this turns out, all I can say is that this is really testing my skills as a painter, and that I'm really enjoying painting it!

Will be a fantastic model when done!
thanks very much zis, comments like that are really inspiring, though hopefully I can live up to expectations!

    Update time:

Congratulations to me, I am now working full time at the University of Bath, ending the briefest period of unemployment I have ever had!
This also means that I have less free time, not that I'm complaining, but painting progress has slowed as I don't have hours and hours like before, so updates are less frequent...

    but progress has been made!

and I made a start on the rest, thanks to the wonders of dettol!

    Thanks for viewing!

Sorry everyone for being gone so long...
I've been finding it hard to find time for the hobby recently due to many factors, however, I thought I'd show my face again on these lovely forums with a minor update for you all.
It's taken me ages to get this Assault Squad looking how I want them, however, I'm relatively happy with the finished result.

    second photo...

Also, I've made a lot of progress on the back section of my sanguinor, and would say that this section is about 95% finished

I'm so close I can almost taste it...

finally, I've done enough work on the Sanguinor that I can glue him together!!
Just gemstones and incidental detail left to do, hopefully I can finish him this week!

    toodles!

    Re: Obsidians Blood Angels

Welcome to what seems to be my occasional monthly update on this log.

I got this done quite speedily compared to many of my other models in this army, only taking about 2 days to paint. I decided to use some of the techniques I learned doing the sanguinor, only this time using real metallic paints, and I believe that it's worked quite well.

So I give you Commander Dante

I hope you have ejoyed this latest thrilling installment of Obsidians Blood Angels log
