    Vampire Counts!

So after having seen the new models for VC, I have no chioce but to start another army. My fourth VC army. Well there won't be that many vampires in it, the focus will lie on wights and skeletons, with some wraiths and necromancers for variety. Hopefully the new book will allow for armies without vampires.

I preordered a couple of things online (wight king, black knights and the book itself, as well as a box of skeletons), but couldn't wait for the release so I went and bought a box of skeletons from my local store. They were painted up really quickly.

Unfortunately, I haven't got any more skeletons to paint right now and all stores are closed today . All my creativity is going to waste!

Ooh, lets be log twins, we seem to be on the same path here. I want a Wight-centric army too

Where did you pre-order? Official site opens up tomorrow, so I'm guessing somewhere else?

Hehe, log twins. Sure, why not. Btw, I just read in White Dwarf that a necromancer may be the army general. Sweet!

I ordered from Maelstrom. It's about £4 cheaper for a box of skeleton warriors compared to swedish retail.

I use Maeltrom and looked twice, couldn't see the VC pre-orders. Painting Ghouls makes you blind!

Thanks for the response, I'm going to put my order in now

Wauw, these look nice!... I'm rly impressed by the bases in particular .. a nice atmosphere they create!
Good idea to sprinkle some larger rocks in between.
Any chance for a run through on the colors you've used for the bases?

    Re: Vampire Counts!

The bases were really simple. Charadon granite basecoat, khemri brown drybrush. The slate was then overbrushed with adeptus battlegrey followed by a drybrush of astronomicon grey. Finally I glued some winter tuft from army painter on to them.

Nice start to the army. Maybe think about cleaning up the base edge since there's some drybrushing on it now? I'm on the same page as you I think when it comes to not wanting vampires, if I do end up starting an army it will be mostly bone.

    Re: Vampire Counts!

    Found some more skeletons!
Harry the Hammer has been standing on my shelf for years without ever getting painted, but finally at least something of his get done. The base!

Seriously one of the most epic bases ever done.

@Harry and Duke Donald: Thanks, though I will admit that I am not spending anywhere near as much time on these as I did on my warriors. The idea here is skeleton horde, so there is quite a bit of assembly line style speed painting. The characters will of course receive more attention.

@orlanth1000: Over a black undercoat I cover the model in p3 Cryx bane base. I then drybrush it with p3 trollblood highlight, followed by a lighter drybrush of p3 Menoth white (pure white). The rust is made by base coating the metal areas with Citadel scorched brown. I then stiple on Citadel Macharius Solar Orange, followed by more stipling of Macharius Solar Orange with a little Iyanded darksun mixed in. I then lightly drybrush some Citadel boltgun metal over it. I paint the copper verdigris by base coating the area with Citadel tin bitz, followed by a drybrush of p3 Rhulic gold. This is then washed with Devlan magic. The verdigris itself is a wash made by mixing p3 arcane blue with some p3 gnarls green and some white, adn diluting it with water of course.

@ mrtn: The edges are fixed! Also, even though my initial plan is to forego vampires, I know myself well enough to know that I will eventualy add some. Btw, if anyone has a ghoul king (the one from the terrorgeist) for sale, I am interested in buying!

While waiting for the release of the new models I started converting what I thought was going to be a vampire wizard. Turns out is was a Wight King battle standard berarer :P

    Re: Vampire Counts!

Slapped some paint on the Wight King. Not all that satisfied, I might go back and re-do a few things, but here he is anyway. And yes, it is built from the chaos sorcerer, which makes him about two heads taller than the skeletons
