Host of the Maggot King (Nurgle WoC)

So, I've decided that with a new year I'm GOING to get a fantasy army painted and gamed with. I toyed with a few different ideas but after reading Tamurkhan my mind was easily made up.

    Nurgle Warriors of Chaos

Probably not the most powerful army from a gaming perspective but should be a good painting/modelling opportunity. I may even write some fluff later on.

So, without further ado - pictures of what I've got so far!

@ Mrtn - I don't unfortunately! I never managed to get a copy of Heroquest - only Space Crusade, I'm not sure I've even seen that model!
@Everyone else - Thanks very muchly for the generous comments The colour schemes aren't really all that difficult (because I'm inherently lazy) - will try to get more up soon, got 5 more Maraudellants (including converted Command Group) almost ready to go so hopefully they'll be posted in the next couple of days, otherwise I'll put up a WiP.

Hey, if you want some variations in those Flaggellants (you know, make 'em more like Mutants), then look here:

    http://s4.zetaboards.com/cotec/topic/941197/1/

The guy does some amazing Gs work, and with some practice, you could have some awesome Mutants.

Also, look for Dee's chaos army of mammoth intended proportions on this forum, he has the coolest Nurglings you'll ever see!

Nice work, how about 'Pox-kin' for the Marauder Horde?

Re: Host of the Maggot King (Nurgle WoC)

@ Brother Alexos - there's some nice ideas in there, but I want them to look more like the dregs of society who have no other option than to pledge their souls to Nurgle, my overall fluff is going to be based around a small travelling entourage (probably left over from Tamurkhan's invasion) infecting small towns throughout the Empire and Border Princes and offering salvation through Nurgle or death. I'm still working on some of the details though (hence not posting it yet). The champion has some G/S conversion work on him though, I'll try to get a WiP of him (or finished, if I'm particularly creative) tonight.
I also looked at the Mammoth Chaos Army... thread - it depressed me somewhat as there's no way I'll ever be able to hit those lofty heights!
@Momus - It's a nice idea, I might steal that for the Chaos Warriors though if you don't mind? I'd like for these guys to have something along the lines of Forsaken (if only it wasn't a unit name in the book...) Or the Lost? I'll think about it some more.

Thinking of ideas for a unit filler or two for these as well at the moment if anyone has any ideas?

When I had a nurgle force I gave each unit a hound as a 2 base filler or a pet spawn/ogre bodyguard as a 4 base filler.

Dude, those two-handed weapon swaps idea is totally rad! I never would've thought of that myself... Silly huh? But I like it lots! And using them as Marauders works really well for Nurgle.

Could you share how you made the skin on Bilious Vilespawn ?

I'm currently hunting for ideas for my own Nurgle forces, Plaguebearers to start and then maybe expand into my WoC ...

Anyway, very good ideas with those Marauders, they look deceased and brutal all at once !

Re: Host of the Maggot King (Nurgle WoC)

I haven't got a step by step with pictures, but the skin went something like:

50/50 mix Dheneb Stone + Rotting Flesh
Wash with Ogryn Flesh (may take a couple of coats)
    Highlight Dheneb Stone
Highlight Dheneb Stone + Rotting Flesh
Highlight previous mix + Space Wolf Grey
Line the deepest recesses with Leviathan Purple (under the Moobs etc - this stage somewhat disturbed me...)

Sorry there's been no picture updates for a while - real life has not been good to me, I will get there though, promise!

Oh I hope this log gets resurrected after a really promising start. The colour scheme is great and I'd love a guide on how to make those bases.

Re: Host of the Maggot King (Nurgle WoC)

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely...

The Bases are just Graveyard Earth, Devlan Mud, drybrush Graveyard, Drybrush Bleach Bone.
The Static Grass is glued down with Super Glue and is a 50/50mix of Grass and Burnt Grass
The I then apply some large gloopy lumps of gloss varnish where I want the snow, and sprinkle on snow effect - this then seems to molt indefinitely - so I've varnished them with some spray matt to try to hold it on a bit better.

As for images, I haven't done much recently as I a) haven't had much time for painting Warhammer of late and b) have been waiting for the new book rumoured Warriors of Chaos book before I go and purchase more stuff.
I do have a few dribs and drabs mind that I've quickly taken some pics of though (apologies they're not the best, I can't find my makeshift lightbox at the moment...):

    Full Marauder Unit (so Far)

Marauder Command and 2 new Marauders

    Warriors of Chaos

I've got some more Warriors of Chaos half finished and a unit filler that I'll try to get some more done to later

Nice stuff, I love the pose of the marauder on the front left with the axe.
