    Re: Just another BBLog

I tried the plastic alphabets this evening, and it's a real pain to do them properly. First, the 2mm letters are so tiny that if it gets away even slightly from your hobby surface, and they will. They are never to be found again. Then applying with superglue. With little glue they attach instantly, no going back and correcting. With some more glue they wont stop floating and fixing them is equally hard as pinning down on the first try with less glue.

Anyway I think the bases will come out Ok, once I've painted and varnished them.

    Here is the preview

Unfortunately, my camera had no battery left, and I could not find the charger, so taken with my camera in the iPhone. There will be better photos once I've done some more painting and basing.

    Looks good,

I only ever used the numbers before.

How fiddly were they to get lined up properly?

I'm not sure I'll do names for my other upcoming teams, maybe only the star players. However I think it's nice to have something to paint in the correct color for the position, without doing the entire edge of the base.

The letters were very hard to get in a straight line, mainly because they were to small to hold with a pair of tweezers. In the end I found the best way to arrange them was by dipping a pin in superglue to lift it, and then press it down on the well glued side of the base.

As you can see I didn't really get it perfect, but I think it would be slightly easier to do 3mm letters, since they fit more precisely within the height of the edge.

I've got some ogre names in store too, I was thinking a semi-movie theme:

    11 Lock
    12 Stock
    13 Load
    14 Smash
    15 Grab
    16 Snatch

Heh, great execution with the names on the bases.

Well thank you both. I'm not fully confident in the bases until I get some paint on them, though. I'm not yet sure wether to do the base edges in the lighter brown (think it's snakebite) or some darker mix, like the top layer of the leftmost figure's base.

Do you think I should do bonelike color, like the spikes, for the name's lettering or stick to the team purple?

    @JT
I could perhaps be persuaded to shift in "Smoking" and "Barrells" trading "Smash" and "Grab"..

I've not had as much time for painting as I'd wish, and still haven't found my camera's battery charger... Even so I'd very much like to manage two entries for the upcoming painting competitions in TalkFantasyFootball.org, the first with a deadline at the last of February. The february painting theme is Linemen, and I could perhaps do a new prototype with better color scheme for my Dark Elves to fit that theme, but the deadline is a bit tight. For the March competition there is a sideline theme, so I was thinking of putting some paint on my re-roll counter conversion. Other than that, the Ogre Team is the main prio, so I'll get back to painting Ogres, and finishing the Snotling bases as soon as there is a time slot.

    Re: Just another BBLog

I started converting a prototype lineman for my new Dark Elves lineup. The idea was to, while stripping fancy details, add some darker ones. I came up with adding dragon talons to the gloves for linemen, if it looks good on a painted mini (and is strong enough for game play) I might do something similar for Blitzers. The idea is backward talons for Linemen and forward blade/spike/talon for Blitzers.

The color scheme I intend to go for will be similar to my previous prototype for this team, but I'm not entirely decided yet. I think I might do some black with brown leather gear, and some dark green to add some color.

    Front:

    Back:

I think I'll have to build a sturdy base for the talon in greenstuff, so the leather/skin of the glove will have to cover a bit further than the current joint. I'll have the talon coming out of it, but I'm not sure of suitable length. It might be a bit too long now, what do you think?

The deadline at March 1st for the TFF "Golden Football" lineman painting competition will be very tight to manage. I'll probably not make it.

The mini on the left has had some rough filing, but needs sanding and green stuff before primer and paint. The right mini is an untouched one of the same model.

Great naming of the snots, love those details.
But those bases need some grass, to match the great paintjob.

Yes, you are right Little Joe. They deserve a proper bases, with static grass and some gravel patches. I intend to get round to doing them in the weekend, and hopefully some Ogre painting for the remainder of the team lineup too.

Thumbs up for your striped down version of the DE!
They look A LOT better than the original one, even before you add the talons.

Some great stuff on here. I love BB, it's such a great game. Advice I would give if you're not happy with washes on the bigger areas of the Ogre's is to do several thin coats rather than just one or two which works on smaller miniatures. Good work on the GS too. Looking forward to seeing this stuff develop
My Various Painting Projects, just added Kobold Gougers and Dreadball RefBot. Please check it out and leave feedback which is all gratefully received

Thanks. I've not yet had time to explore if the talons will be sturdy enough. Been cramped with work related stuff lately. I think they would do without if I had to.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try that on my next attempt for an Ogre. The GS-conversion is probably what I'll start on when I get time to get back with my minis again. Shouldn't be that far away now. The crunch period at work should be almost over now.
