A new years resolution - painting challenge

Hi all warseerites!

At the new year's eve a friend of mine was thinking about an idea of a painting challenge where during three months we would make a 600 pts list and paint the stuff included in it, and after the three months play a game with them. After that, another 600pts worth of stuff would be added to the list and painted - and gamed with. So that in the end of the year we would all have 2400pts, which seems to be the standard tournament size here, all finished. also the task wouldn't feel so burdening when split into such small portions.

For this challenge I chose to finish my high elves that I bought as a side army but never really got around painting them as I was always distracted by my main empire army (some sort of reverse of new shiny stuff syndrome? Go and figure.)

In addition to me there are three buddies up to this challenge: one with orcs and goblins, other with tomb kings and last with lizardmen, but I can't guarantee that they'd post here too = /

But enough of babbling, you all came here to see pictures now did ya? Yeah, I knew you did.

The colour scheme of the army is tad different from the basic high elves, and I myself like it a lot.

I must say, those are pretty awesome.
Nice smooth colors and a scheme makes the HE look way better than the white/blue one.

Pressure from the Bunkka-pop, I need to post my own list and pictures... I havent painted in 1,5 years, so this might be interesting.

These look really nice. The unusual earthy colour scheme works great. It's also the first White Lion I've seen who looks as scary as their statline.

Thank you! When I got and split the IoB with the greenskin player that is also up with this challenge, I really wanted to paint the elves with pure white and blue as I am some kind of masochist with liking to paint pure white. But then the tomb king player just slapped me with "no bunkka, you're not going down just with the generic path again"(my empire is talabheim themed..) So I came up with this theme. And mostly liking it so far, the beige can be kinda pain in the butt in large, flat areas(ARCHERS! I am looking at you!).
Hahah, cool to hear about the lion. Hopefully it will indimitate it's enemies too to ensure good dice rolls = D

Thanks! The gemstones in the white lion were kinda rushed and painted just with few colours when I was painting at friends place, but I kinda like them so I don't know if I should continue with the old recipe. Which do you guys like better? The white lions gems or the other guys gems?
And as for the scroll it's kinda difficult to see from this angle, would you like to have a better pic of it?

@ Bunka - I think your high elves are really solid. Any chance we could get a better picture of the white lion? I'd like to see a bit more of the color composition on the torso before i comment too much. The things I really like - your faces and gems. Those details really pull your force into the elusive next level. My only suggestion on those archers would be to consider adding one more highlight to the green to give it some contrast. Great work!

@Akage - You, too, have made a great start. Your color choices are classic, but effective. Have you thought about trying to apply the same highlighting levels to your saurus shield as those on the displayed skink? It seems to me that the starker 'pop' on your skink's shield really helps the model. Just a thought - if you do that with an orange on your red-scaled shield, it could look stellar. Looking forward to seeing more and thanks for sharing!

Nice work to both of you! New year hobby resolutions are always a good way to get through all those outstanding models. I love the high elf scheme, I may steal that in the future . I like the way the skinks are being painted a different yet complementary colour to the saurus.

I've been collecting and painting O&G for about 2 years. Now I'm going to try to paint some models/units I've had waiting for painting very long, re-paint some older stuff and maybe even get some new units.

Huzzah! Got the noble (ranger) ready, and I am quite pleased with the result. I didn't have daylight at hand so the quality of the pictures may be bit lower.

I also took pictures of the "white" lion's torso (I should make up a name for them?) and from the bolt thrower crewman's scroll.

It's rather long time when I last painted freehand, so I am happy the way it turned out. Also I was first time trying to do that sort of shading with the sword (what is it called, um?). During the painting I was little worried that the figure would turn up little bit too dark, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Bunkka-Pop: The wood pattern on the bow and quiver and the free hand on the cloak of that noble are excellent. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the positive feedback! The woodgrain on the bow and quiver were done rather fast actually, nice to know that it works all ok. The freehand on the other hand.. Well, I was rather frightened to start doing it at first, and almost left the cape without one. It's quite long time I last did any freehand. But at the last moment I was just "well screw it" and went for it. Now I must say I'm happy I did it, as it turned out all cool. The cloak would look rather bare without it.

Hahah, loving that unit filler = D. Only thing I'd ask is a shot from the top to get a better view from the contents of the wagon.

With my colour scheme, I tried to go for something bit different than the usual gold/blue/bone, and picked bronze for the metallic areas with heavy verdigris effects on it, grey for the wooden areas and shrouds, and black and red for highlightning things from the sea of bronze and gray and bone.

Bases - as I usually do something very different, and never actually done the usual "generic fantasy base with grass and brown earth", I decided to go for it as it is so rarely seen on Tomb Kings.

My 600pts army list contains:

should be something like 600pts

Are you sure this will take you guys 3 months? You seem to have done a lot all ready! Love the rusted copper on the TK's, looks ace!

The pattern on the nobles cloak looks great as well, but he does look a bit woodelf-ish with all the green .
