Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

Mummo, I really like the green buboes on the trolls, also it is always nice to see my beloved bitz used in your miniatures : P

I had also something else to add - PICTURES.

I have completed my 600pts by painting my catapult and basing the fourth chariot. Also I have painted a bit extra, something what I will include in my 1800 army perhaps... But anyways, here are the pictures!

    First, the catapult:

Not the best mini I have painted, but goes well on the tabletop. I hated every second assembling and painting it. Base also had 5 heads from different armies on it but I removed them because I didn't have any paints to do skintones : (. Well, I'm satisfied with myself as I got it painted. Not really looking forward to paint any more of these : P

And full army shot! (second group of archers are quite hidden, but hey, thats life)

And now the "extra" thing. Painted him already ready for 1800 points army, as I can't fit him and catapult to the 1200pts. I loved painting him at first and really tried on some parts, but in the end he was so big that I got tired and hurried up the rest parts (gems, "skin", and some of the details.). Still, surprisingly satisfied with the overall look with him, maybe one day I will make some improvements.

God bless you all : )
We need more heated tombstones around here now ladies and gentlemen, it's time to bake some egg's afterall!

I think the weathered bronze effect is excellent on your Necrosphinx. He looks pretty imposing. How did you do it?

Well done on completing your 600 points!

Agreed on the bronze weathering, that effect is fantastic. I too would love to know how you did it.

Beautiful work all round! My only tiny suggestion might be to tidy up some of your base edges (clear away any rogue bits of flock and sand) and possibly paint the edges black (it always looks best, in my opinion, even for a desert themed army like this! At least try it on one skelly!)

The weathering is great, keep it up !!

The last day of the first part of the challenge, and here comes my 600pts.

    First savages:

    And the whole 600 points:

I'll soon post my next list, but here's pic of the upcoming 1200 points:

Is there only two of us who got this done in time..? :S

Nice armies! Good idea on the paint n play. Im doing something similar on my log. Just wish mine had a few more chums in it!

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

... Oops! Looks like that I still have few models unpainted... Aand all of them unbased. So after some talking we decided that I will be punished (horribly!) by having to buy both of these gentlemen a pizza.

But the challenge still moves forward, the next target being the 1200pts. This time I won't fail...

And also as the lizardman player has dropped out due to real-life issues (it can be a bugger sometimes), but we will have a replacement on the way, so do not worry!

Everything looks great lads, really like your armies. Morkyerme's verdigris looks awesome, Bunkka-Pop's colours are great, the cream robes look excellent and mummomikael's rock lobber is sweet.

Keep up the work, cant wait for the next 600 points.

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

So, here comes my next 1200 points list. I already posted a pic of these.

Blorc Warboss. I'll use the same model that I had on my last list as a Big Boss. I'll make some conversions or something to make hin greater and more "warboss" if I get any idea

    Goblin BSB

    Goblin Shaman

21 Orc Boyz with spears and shields. I'll upgrade these to big 'unz on my next list.

17 Savges, same as in my last list

34 Nigh gobs with bows. So I'll paint 13 more of these, as well as one Fanatic.

And the Trolls and the Rock Lobber.

I'll get the BSB ready tomorrow, and the first spear-orc soon!

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

    Huaa. Double-post.

Anyway, here's the bsb I promised!

Well, it seems I didn't get good pic of the banner, but the figure itself is so cool and the banner isn't so I think it doesn't really matter:P And I think you can guess which of the Orc-banners it is

All the armies look really good, well done you guys. I will be keeping my eye on this over the year. Good luck with the next 600 points!

So, I got the first 3 of the spear-orcs finished. Myself I do like these, but what do you think?

The skin looks better in nature.

How is it going with other painters? : P

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

As I've said to you already, I really like the spear orc unit. The shield wall and back-rankers supporting the front ranks looks so dynamic. Can't wait to see more close-up pictures from the unit.

Uh well, I've started rolling the painting gears again by fiddling with the forthcoming spearelf unit. Here is a tester fig:

Bit better picture from the shield freehand

Even though I am rather pleased with it, it didn't really turn out the way I wanted to. There is some sketching I did in paint when I was trying to come up with a freehand for the shields

In the final version the dragon in the middle turned up too small, otherwise I feel that else is ok. What do you guys think?

As always all sorts of feedback is heartily welcome!

Interesting take on the High Elf. I think the shield might be a bit busy (I know I'd get sick of painting them all) but I love the rune at the bottom and how it matches the clothing. The different to usual armour colour is nice, too.

@mummomikael: I nice work on the orcs. They look great ranked up like that.

@Bunkka-Pop: The shield looks cool. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole unit painted.

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

Thanks for the positive feedback guys! It really helps me now to push forward with this, as my painting motivation hasn't really been that good.

    @zoggin-eck
Thanks! I was thinking myself too that the shield may turn up too busy with the rune, but then again without it the lower part would perhaps look too empty compared to the upper one. What do you guys think, should the rune stay or go?

    @Student
Nice to hear that others think too that the shield is OK. Btw do you like the dragon left smaller (the way it turned out in the test model) or bigger (the way I planned it in the paint version)?

really nice things you have here! I especially like the colour scheme on the spear elf (Great choice of model btw) and also the positioning of the spear orcs.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Re: A new years resolution - painting challenge

    @Meraklis
Thanks, I really prefer those old one-poser models over the newer sausage-finger ones. In fact I've hoarded quite a lot of those oldy goldies.

I just also noticed that I hadn't posted here my list for the coming 1200pts.

    Noble
    Mage
    14 Archers
    30 spearmen
    14 White lion
    5 shadow warrior

So I've got about 80 points to spare and can't decide that should I use them on expanding the white lion unit even further, or for another shadow warror group? Help me out guys! If you got some other ideas for the points feel free to suggest them too.

Edit: Oh, I also forgot to mention that I happened to win the 600pts game! Woo! I really didn't think that I had any chance against the loads of shooting and impact hits of the tomb kings, but somehow I prevailed. A big tap to the back goes to the white lion champion that survived the onslaught of the charioteers and steeds after the impacts had destroyed the unit around him (I passed quite a lot of 5+ and 6+ saves) and held the ground, allowing my archer unit to charge the chariot units flank.

A bit late I know, but here comes a pic of how much I got painted up before I ran out of time:

And I can tell you that this time I shall not fail! Back to the painting table!
