Apocalypse Warrior = Flagellants
Apocalypse Warrior = Flagellants
I'm thinking Chaos Dwarfs, it would satisfy Felix's love for the stunties while not being regular Dwarfs.
We got another tip from Smylodon in AoW's forum.
I've started looking into AoW fluff on the AoW website. A handy little tool called "Explore Saga."
Saga is the world inhabited by Avatars of War.
Here's what I've found so far in 'Explore Saga>Atlas>The Darklands>The Ward>Politics'. Still reading.
Edit 2:I still remember how both [gods] personally led our men through a tide of destruction in the great battle of the Abyss of Krönd, killing a horde the Apocalypse after another. This memorable battle was the turning point that ended the Avatar Wars ... but that's another story ...
Here's some more from 'Explore Saga>Atlas>The Darklands>The Ward>History':
Edit 3:Following the establishment of Cael in the Frostlands of Krönd, he directed his anger at the Cirlean Empire, throwing his hordes of nightmare against the Empire over and over again. The damage caused by the continuous attacks of the Hordes of the Apocalypse on the borderlands and border cities of Cirlea were many and very sad.
There's an entire section of the Establishment of Cael, and the origins of the "Hordes of the Apocalypse." There's a lot of info to summarize, including an assassination of an archbishop, a rigged election, an insane pontiff... etc. This is actually pretty good reading. So far, "Apoc, War" looks like it probably refers to beastmen or chaos.
Edit 4: I'm loving this:
Edit 5:With the opening of the first seal the first rider was released: Pestilence, the corrupter of flesh, riding a pale green monstrous horse.
On opening the second seal, a large red horse in flames was released, mounted by a rider who wielded a great sword: War, to eradicate any sign of peace in Saga.
With the third seal, a black and monstrous creature emerged from the darkness, and another rider sat on it. It carried a scale in each hand, one filled with chunks of corpses, the other full of skulls. Torment, the bringer of torture and eternal pain.
Upon opening the fourth seal, there was a big white horse and a sinister hooded figure wielding a large scythe was riding. Death, keeper of the fallen against the cause of Rayviel, who will return to avenge their blood on those who dwell in the land .
With the fifth seal, Leodric took the Crown of Revelation, which gave him a power equal to that of the gods and the absolute authority over the creatures freed by the Seals and over their followers, and he called himself now Cael, Lord of the Apocalypse, for he regarded himself now as one of the Alor.
Cael did not open the sixth and seventh seals, for he knew now that these should be only opened when the Hordes of the Apocalypse, ready to be united and led by the Four Horsemen: War, Death, Torment and Pestilence, will march as one to fight the great battle that will ultimately result in the death of all life in Saga.
So "Apoc, War" Is likely to refer to 'Daemons' or Barbarians from the Forstlands of Krönd.The Hordes of the Apocalypse
Cael's army, the Hordes of the Apocalypse, is organized into a rigid hierarchical structure. At the top of the hierarchy is Cael, as the supreme authority.
Immediately below Cael in the hierarchy are his four generals, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Pestilence, the corrupter of flesh
War, the peace breaker
Torment, the pain bringer
Death, keeper of the slain.
Each Horseman of the Apocalypse commands a horde made up of a myriad of warriors and creatures created in his image and likeness.
The Harbingers of the Apocalypse are next in the military hierarchy: extremely powerful beings (usually Avatars of War) that lead hordes of monstrous warriors, the Warriors of the Apocalypse, created and shaped in the image and likeness of their Lord. These warriors are the elite force of these hosts.
Also, many of the barbarian tribes of the Forstlands of Krönd worship and revere these entities, and can often join a horde of the Apocalypse, just to take loot from plunder and killing, or for darker purposes.
Edit 6, the motherlode:
I found a gallery!
Think this is a great initiative! GW needs some proper competition. (Unfortunately Mantic just does not cut it.)
Will buy the upcomming models just to support them!
Great hunting Scaryscarymushroom, sounds really cool, so chaos warrior and marauder units maybe

We will launch the MeteorBlitzkreig............. ironsky
Some of thats concept art of models that are already out though (the final one is the sorcerer bloke).
Someone mentioned the four horse men of the apocolypse, so apoc war could easily be a unit of devotees to War. However the GW kit is pretty good, I always liked it, so I'm not entirely sure why Felix would do a chaos unit.
I'm still quietly hoping for witch elves in some form or another

I've managed to get thoroughly excited about a warriors of chaos style release, but one of the things I'm most excited for is the promise of 6 new regiments a year!
I do hope witch elves come eventually. But, all in good time and with plenty of inspiration. You can't rush art!
My feelings exactly. However it's obvious that Felix has certain types of models he's very very good at sculpting, and others, not as much. It could be that female elves just weren't really his area of expertise.
"Revenge is a dish best served by Uma Thurman"
I've got mixed feelings about this, if it is just Chaos Warriors. On the one hand, I praised AoW for providing something new in the form of plastic Dwarf Slayers, so going with a kit that GW already makes in plastic this time is rather disappointing. On the other hand, I'd rather see the chaos warriors get stuck with restic than something like Witch Elves which don't have a plastic kit.
I agree with AlexHolker, WoC lookalikes are a bit of a let down after the plastic slayer/berzerkers and the possibilities afforded by other kits not serviced by GW with plastic. Even beyond Witch Elves, which were afterall never confirmed or even hinted at really.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only British.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. Resin/plastic mixes didn't work for GW, and apparently the restic mantic models are 100% more expensive than their plastics?
Here's what I expect from this release: 20 individual models (all with unique heads!) In at least slightly dynamic poses and with a flexible assembly process similar to the dwarf kit. Possibly even some variation with the iconography, details, and maybe even optional wings or other bits. Multiple weapon options. All for approximately 40-45 USD.
What GW offers: a decent kit with excellent (albeit static) models. 12 models.for 35 USD.
AoW will offer a cheaper product (model for model)that is more fun to assemble and paint, and is more highly detailed. Why not be excited?
The problem with "restic" is that it's casting is more time consuming and labour intensive than metal. That's likely why AoW sent out that notice about their upcoming Warcast production not being able to match retailers demand... At least for the present.
The good thing about restic is the ability for undercuts that can't be done easily with plastics. Another, is that when Mantic switched their metal revenant cavalry and the metal wraiths to restic, their price dropped by 50% due to the cheaper material.
So, assuming AoW will be using a material similar to Mantics, it could be a good middle medium for them as it will be a cheaper raw material for them than metal and doesn't require the expensive molds that they apparently can't afford for the plastics.
Personally, I'd love to see AoW do some of their larger creatures like their current metal minotaurs in restic if it will reduce their price.
So alternative Chosen, then?
That's pretty neat, although there are some options I would have liked to see first.
