Errmm not sure were your getting the 23rd from: "Order before 15th June and your first issue will be White Dwarf 391, which will be released on 30th June." Source

That makes it pretty certain that its the preorders starting on the 30th, not an actual release. 0 days of hype seems a bit small even with the current hush hush. Although I would love to be proved wrong.

AFAIK Black Reach should be around a fraction longer, but not 100% sure why they'd do it that way.

I guess he got it out from his White Dwarf, where it say "next issue june 23rd." And yes, june 23rd is afaik also the date where preorders go up.

AoBR stays in stores a little longer, I don't know how long, though.

Just a random thought: If hull points are indeed as rumored, what are the implications foe Eldar holo-fields? Seems like a major nerf, unless the tanks get a trillion hull points or the effects of holo-fields are completely scraped and redesigned. Right?

It could be that the damage chart and rules that affect it (glance, Ap1, open-topped, tank and so on) will be sort of like in the 'leaked' version. I have played that a few times, and really, an Eldar tank with holofield is almost impossible to kill. Even harder than in fourth actually (I realised I needed a penentrate and then a double 6 to kill the tank outright. In fourth, you needed a glance and a double six), but with these hull points, it wouldn't be so bad.

Rumours like this always feel kinda out of context. We have no idea how they will interact with all the other rules. And GW is fond of making lots and lots and lots of extra rules and exceptions.

What i would like to know is - would we get a special edition of 6th hardback rulebook with added on 1st edition Rogue Trader rulebook similar how it was done on WFB 7th release? I want to buy such a combo.

With all the haywire rules floating around the newer books, I think hull points make vehicles very vulnerable. Necrons Voltaic staff can reliably drop any 3 hull point model in one round. I can't wait for the whole picture as all the snipets of rumours dont have a context and dont fit well with the 5th mentality. Not long now!

Yep, my Wyches will have an even bigger role tank hunting. With consolidation, I might even be able to plow into the passengers that disembark too afterwards

This came up at Bell of Lost Souls. Not sure if it has been discussed.

That was taken from the Beasts of War video, and we still don't know if it is "true" or speculation.

It wouldn't be the first time a piece of wargear was made utterly useless by an edition change; see the Tyranid Thornback bio-upgrade, and the Tau watchamacallit that allowed the unit to automatically pass Target Priority checks. You raise a good point; good thing I don't use anything that needs holo-fields in my Eldar army.

Hull points and Holo Fields, as we know both for the moment, work just fine. You're tanks won't be nigh invincible anymore, but so what? Holo Fields will still protect you from instant death, but they won't save you from attrition even now, and with hull points that just becomes a faster, less dull process.

And before you accuse me of hating the Craftworlders - I was an Eldar player when I first got into the game.

As an Eldar player of the past, I always thought it was absurd that Eldar had the most unkillable tanks and the most killable troops. I've always considered getting back into them but the prices are what stop me more than anything. Hull Points would actually ENTICE me more, rather than turn me off.

Why? Invincible tanks that can't kill anything... what's the point? Eldar are supposed to be glass cannons - having tanks that are neither glass, nor cannon, makes ZERO sense. Something GW is good at, I'm afraid, but still.

    ~DeviLution

EDIT @Sildani - I don't see Hull Points rendering Holo Fields useless. The Fields would still protect from one-shot kills. I can see where you think they're not as useful as they are under the current system, but like I said in my above post - hull points changes very little for holo fielded tanks.

Todays paradigm - Eldar tanks with holo fields that pose a threat = torrent with enough fire until they die.
Holo Field + Hull Points paradigm - Eldar tanks with holo fields that pose a threat = torrent with enough fire until they die.

GW seems to me to be like... a trireme. One that's caught in a maelstrom, with accountants at the oars all on one side pulling for money, and gamers on the other pulling to get out of the maelstrom... and where Captain Jervis is sipping tea at the wheel, looking aft, thinking he's standing at the bow looking forward, with a wispy smile and a vacantly amused expression on his face, oblivious to it all. Who wins in the end... the gamers, or the accountants?
    Neither. The maelstrom wins.

The Necron Quantum Shielding makes a little more sense with hull points. Changing AV 11 to AV13 makes it harder to glance to death. But, yes, anything that modified the damage chart will be less useful. Lance weapons will be better.

I wonder what they'll do about thunderhammers? if they stick with "every stunned/shaken result will do 1 hull point damage" then it only takes 4 thunderhammer hits to wreck a landraider, regardless of if you fluff the penetration roll. If so, we can expect even more TH/SS termies in the future.

Re: Official WarSeer Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition discussion thread

I think that if the hull points are true, the they will work on a turn basis. I.e. a vehicle will be destroyed if it suffers multiple shaken/stunned results in one turn as apposed to multiple shaken/stunned results in a game.

Re: Official WarSeer Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition discussion thread

well i've had a quick nose at the GW website and the 5th ed hardback book is gone although the AoBR is still listed as available, also a quote in the white dwarf from the editor made an interesting comment as well right at the end he says about a battle Robin Crudance has written and he wants to refight it but "perhaps next month"......interestingly though looking at the dates for the fliers, advance order is now available in stores saturday....that's rather short notice perhaps GW is planning to give us only a week or so's notice on the release of 6th ed, if they do i hope they have extra staff cause their phones are going to be clogged for ages if they dont......but i've gone cover to cover and cant find any reference as to the white dwarf issue for July coming out a week early if they do spring it on us though it'll confirm that 6th ed is july....but they could leave it as a normal release date and just make the release for the Saturday after White Dwarf which would be the 7th of July and a disaster for me as my mothers birthday is that weekend as well

Re: Official WarSeer Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition discussion thread

There's also the possibility that Holo-fields could be changed to represent +1 hull points either in the next codex or FAQ or something, although I wouldn't be surpised if that is what Energy Fields end up being instead. However, if they are left as they are, hull points will nerf Holo-fields a little, but definitely not to the point of uselessness. The ability to ignore one hit kills from Lascannons will still be there. They will need a points reduction even more so though for the vehicle upgrade...

The way it was discussed on Beasts of War's last Turn 8 made sense to me, but there are many ways it could be implimented which we haven't thought about yet. I also agreed about their thumbs down to the random charge lengths and random psychic powers and their thumbs up to pre-measuring, challenges and new wound allocation. The random assault rule would kill 40K very quickly but some of the other rumours will be very cool in deed if they are true...
