I really liked the Evasion rules.

    Directed attacks made it in.

Erm. Looking at the 6th Ed we've got in front of us, the creators of the "Pancake" edition seem to be...the Games Workshop Studio. Right? This thing's clearly an early draft of the real 6th Ed rules. With so many parallels in scope, direction and specific rules, there's no way it's coincidence.

Well, their origins lie in rec.games.warhammer, from which they were developed further first by the IGCOM mailing list before being completely revamped for the first forum-based Warhammer communities.

I don't think GW's ever revealed their pre-usenet history, although presumably the letters section of very old White Dwarfs is involved.

Having the rulebook in my hands now, I completely agree. Pancake is the first generation 6th ed.

Yeah, it looks like Pancake was an attempt to fully reboot the game, like 2nd to 3rd, but it went too far. 6th takes a lot of the good elements from Pancake, kept the good elements from 5th, and put them together, then streamlined it. Pancake had the problem of too many Special Rules for everything. It was like a Cruddace codex.

Would have liked to see a return of the move stat though.

GW are not our bosses and there was no communication between GW and WarSeer on this matter at all.

The answer to your question can be found in my opening post of this thread, which was:

We at Warseer were reluctant to discuss the leaked pdf because we very quickly recognised it for what it truly was.

Now GW has distanced itself from 'leaked document, we now are happy for it to be discussed on WarSeer, but only in this thread.

I call big fat lie from GW on the hoax.

Unless someone has a very good crystal ball, it got far too much stuff right. This was an earlier beta of 6th, I have not the slightest doubt.

Re: WarSeer Official Discussion of the 'leaked' 6th Ed Rule Set

Wintermute's post was very carefully worded. He doesn't say that the Warseer team recognized the pancake edition as a hoax. He avoids to specify what the mods knew about the origin of the leak.

This is how I have read the statement:
    1. Warseer team gets pancake edition and recognizes it as an early draft.
    2. Warseer mods stop the discussion of the pancake edition. This would be a very serious copyright infringement.
    3. GW distances itself from the document and calls it a hoax.
    4. The mods allow the discussion of the document as GW cannot claim any copyright on it anymore.
    Winter is coming.

You'll note the post was edited a while after the thread was started. I seem to recall the original version made precisely that assertion.

    Yeah, pretty much that.

Except they steered back a bit too much in my opinion.

There is someone who pretends to have written the rules in the general forum: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...ew-6th-Edition

I noticed as well. His understanding of game design puts some credibility to his claim, too.

    So, can anyone comment?

After all, we might be under a moral obligation to get the guy laid now...
