At 100 pages long and a number of off topic musings, perhaps a new thread is in order?
Not really - The Dude is still updating the first post with any new information.
Well, since our rumours sources are silent I encourage players to think of trends in latest codices to infer what might be in for us.
I would surely expect is upgrade characters for squad and some nasty pieces of wargear that are usable only once in a game.
I was also thinking, that there is trend to make only 2 troop choices, but that applies only to GK, DE and Crons; nids and BA have more than 2 troop choices.
If the rumours of cultists in the new starter box are accurate, I'd expect them to be in as a core choice. I'm really hoping all the power armoured cult units stay as Troops so that would make six Troops choices.
I am old enough to remember when White Dwarf reviewed books and RPGs.

I sincerely hope they don't give us expensive one shot items. The high points cost for something that you might miss with is a bit rubbish on my opinion.

No, Cult units NEED to become Elites again. The only Troops choices Chaos need should be Cultists, CSM squads and maybe Lesser Daemons. Taking a generic Character with a Mark or something or a certain Special Character should be all that is needed to unlock one Cult type as Troops...
However, with the FOC being dropped in place of a percentage based system, the categories could change too to something more like Fantasy or how 2nd Edition was. Personally I'd prefer to keep the current categories, but if it's like the old system, units that are currently in Elites and Fast Attack could be moved to Core or Support (or something else entirely)...
Regarding the DE style "pain tokens", I love the idea of that. My brother has some really cool markers for his Dark Eldar which I would like to replicate for my World Eaters with piles of skulls...

Everyone Dies. It's the final and only lasting Justice. There's no greater good than Justice; It is said correctly that law exists not for the Just but for the unjust, I bow to no one and I give service only for cause...
IF 6th ed switches to a % based system for force selection which still isn't certain at this point, they wont change the current unit categories. Removing the FOC in favour of a % based system invalidates about 1 paragraph of text and the FOC graphic box on one page in existing codexes it is easy to ignore. Changing the categories on the other hand would have a hugely negative impact on every existing codex and would make things messy and unorganized for little if any actual benefit.
Sorry no GW I will not pay twice the $$$ to buy from retail stores in Australia and no amount of adds to the hobby, support you FLGS bulldung is going to change the fact your charging twice as much.
And there would be the big chance people would still use 5th edition till they get new codexes if their current ones arent playable with the 6th.

Not really. I mean, there is a lot of potential disasters to be had if they "create" different categories, since they'd have to distribute every single unit in every single codex, but from their point of view, they'd only have to issue some errata and do as they did with WHFB books: re-edit them with the errata included. Voilà!

Yes it does.

1222. It's a stranglehold. Not an Ogryn neck pinch.
1395. Eldar really hate it when you greet them with "Live long and prosper".
1537. My Rogue Trader does not need to announce his arrival with eight hours of orbital bombardment.
1572. The Navigator has Warp Sight. Not Insane-o-Vision.
1594. Flak armor is not just a muscle shirt with the word "ARMOR" stenciled on it.

With regards to the release date for C:CSM I've been told that the release date for the 6th ed boxset is around about the 8th of August. I'd say that then puts the new Chaos book around about October, which is what we were expecting.
(Sorry The Dude for mentioning 6th ed again but it kind of tied in release schedule wise)
Hmm, that pushes the big rulebook only window narrower, if the Box set comes out in August. Normally they give 2 months so the box set mini-rules don't step on sales of the hardback rulebook. with the BRB supposedly being June 30, I am now wondering about some wave models in July (Fantasy?) and possibly some models in August alongside the Starter (maybe some plastic characters for 40K? Some early Chaos models to prime for the codex?)
If that is the change, it could mean WoC in September then, and CSM in October, giving a nice block of Chaos models.
[Edit] Post 2000!
