The back, exhausts and plasma canon are absolutly forge wolrd, I have the FWones in front of me. So, if the the new anounced GW plastic dreadnought is not a 1:1 copy from the FW one, I'm afraid of, there are no pictures in the new book. But it could also be that I just need more coffein... :-)

@The Dude: at least here in germany they are called dreadnoughts :-). BTW: great job what you are doin' for us chaos worshippers :-)

Having re-examined the photos, I am not absolutely certain they are Forgeworld Dreads. There is a join/mold line running across the top part on the BL one that is identical to the FW version. All the plastic Dreads have a very different join there including the Venerable, which would be the closest analogue design-wise. Sorry to be a killjoy.

Both have defintely got chaos exhaust assemblies (so not converted from imperial) and judging by the different ranged weapons I think there are two conclusions. Either they're FW (not seen them in person from the rear so can't comment) or they're from the multi-part chaos kit. Looking at the plasma cannon and the exhaust assemblies I'd guess FW personally, with the cartoon pic being more of a hint towards the redesign to come. Pics below, sorry for quality.

These are absolutely FW dreads. I've just made one.

Design looks like the Venerable plastic dread kit. Right arm seems to have options for TLLC with chain bayonet, or plasma cannon. Art also shows a multimelta option. No good views of the left arm, but art shows large clawed power fist DCCW.

Well, if the pics are FW models, at least the art seems new.

The art is new. It looks a lot like the FW Dreads, but note that there aren't any Legion-specific icons "moulded" on it. If that's the Dread from the starter set, I'll be very happy.

The artwork is new as far as I know but they do look like like FW dreads. The trophy rack I recognise either from the chaos marine vehicle or accessory sprue as every one of my champions has one as a back banner!

Whoever set up those shots for the book was teasing us!

At least, the red Dreadnought is from Wade's Worldeaters army.

I'd imagine they're trying to get rid of the old look Chaos Dread from our minds if they're making a new look version that ties it closer to the imperial one's appearance.
Also not sure if anybody else has noticed this but the Fabius Bile and Ahriman models in the 6th Ed book are new paint jobs which to me implies we'll be seeing them in the next codex for sure (unless ofc it's just a studio members personal models).

The Masters of the Chapter models for Space marines are also either a new paint job or digitally dulled.

Wouldn't it make sense to repaint the models with the new paints?

On bile and ahriman, not surprising really. I think it was a given that ahriman and fabulous bill would be in the next codex. They are two of the major chaos characters and have been in every iteration of the chaos codex.

However, what this implies to me is that perhaps these two iconic characters won't be getting new sculpts for a while yet, as the effort of commissioning a need paintjob for them so close to a new codex release suggests to me this will be through need look for the new codex. Afteral, it'd be a bit of a wasted effort if five minutes after their first published outing they'd be replaced by new sculpts, especially when the previous studio models would have sufficed for the rulebook.

That is, assuming they are the need studio paintjob as opposed to and individuals personal models.

The rulebook seems to feature re-paints of some older models, as far as Chaos is concerned Huron, Fabius, Ahriman and Epidemius are all re-paints, possible Abaddon too I think, not to mention several regular troop models... and for the sake of keeping this OT, if the Word Bearers, Night Lords and Alpha Legion are shown in the new codex looking like they do in the rulebook, colour me happy - they all look awesome.

I can see GW not bothering with new sculpts of existing characters right now, in favor of new characters and models. Resculpts are something best left for later waves, rather than part of the new stuff that should be with the book.

A new Abaddon is really needed though, his model is looking really dated compared to the regular Chaos termies.

Assuming there's new characters. It'd be strange not to get any, but there is one rumor saying so.

'New' characters could equally be 'old' characters brought back as well. I could see some squad upgrade characters turning up.

It seems that the CSM aesthetic is going more towards daemonic tooth/claw/spikes, more rounded compared to the old "square brass" look. I think this same aesthetic is demonstrated in the 6th edition cover? I suppose Word Bearers are the new Chaos posterboys, they have the daemonic thing going on, and that style would fit them.

I'm down with CSM looking more daemonic. Break away from SM with spikes. I'm actually starting to get some excitement going on for my Sons of Decay.

Not sure if mentioned before, but there are plastic Plaguebearers shown on page 301 of the new rulebook.

Are you sure? Those don't look very modular, and seem a lot like the existing metal ones.
