    Necanthrope's WHQ stuff.

Well, the other threads about WHQ inspired me and I got working today on my monsters.
Here is a rather bad picture, to prove it.

Apologies for the poor quality, it was taken with a webcam. There are, in no particular order, 10 stormvermin, a skaven fighter character, a skaven magic character, 3 converted centaurs, 4 minotaurs, 3 ogres, 6 savage orcs, a savage orc shaman, 6 goblin archers, 6 goblin spearmen, 6 orc archers, a goblin fanatic, a goblin shaman, and a wizard who appears to have snuck into the shot next to my beer mug.

I'll update this thread as I make more progress building, and painting the hoard of monsters I have collected for WHQ over the years.

Hopefully it will inspire someone else to give this wonderful old game a try.

That sounds like a good mixture of different Monsters to start off with!

You've using old and new models together, which is cool. Usually I see either one or the other.

I would be interesting in seeing these Centaur conversions. What bits did you use?

    Your wish is my command.

The image quality is again, dire. Please bear with me until I get access to a better camera. The centaurs are all made from a chaos knight's horse's body (any will do. I got a job lot of five from ebay cheap), a Battle Master chaos archer, chopped off at about waist height, green stuff, and various bits to help mask the join. I used savage orc quivers, and various skull trophies from the minotaur sprue. The green stuff around the "waist" was attacked with a cocktail stick until it vaguely resembled chain-mail. I've never used green stuff to scult before in 20 tears of gaming. So I'm not happy with the results, but enjoyed it a lot. I ended up with 3 functional centaurs, with a rather ugly chain-mail skirts. They will look better when painted.

Not bad, I've never seen those Marauder Archers before.

I personally would of gone with a less bulky horse as a base, but the conversion is still good.

    Thanks for the praise!
If I were to make them again there are lots of things I would do differently, especially with the sculpting. That was a steep learning curve.

The archers are from MB games Battle Masters from the nineties. It's still around on eBay for surprisingly little money. It's got lots of greenskins and chaos troops, as well as a large empire army. It was a sort of warhammer lite, in the same vein as heroquest and space crusade, and you played it on a massive vinyl mat the size of a tablecloth.

    Re: Necanthrope's WHQ stuff.

    Hello again.
A non picture update I am afraid, but I thought I had better let people know I am still working on my WHQ stuff. So far I have painted 6 goblin spearmen, 6 night goblin archers, a night goblin fanatic, a night goblin shaman, 6 orc archers, 5 orc swordsmen, an ogre, and a skaven clanrat.

The painting is frankly, variable. I used a simple basecoat and wash technique that is rather similar to dipping. It looks fine on the rat and greenskins, but I am having to rethink this approach for the ogres. I will post some pistures soon, when I get the chance to borrow my brother in law's rather smart new slr camera.

Keep up the great efforts. As I am building the game up from scratch I have much to do - especially from the painting aspect. Being a fantasy wargamer (mainly GW) I have many figures that are appropriate but as seems to be the case - requires painting. I'll need to set up a blog myself!

And yes - centaurs are the one figure type I need to work out myself also.

    Cheers!

The centaur is a great idea in concept; look forward to your improvements on the build. That and more painting

As for the Orge issue; certainly stems from a larger surface area. Bigger models always require a new approach at times.
