Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

thanks guys. Yeah the bases and flame effects on everything along with a pretty simple colour pallet has been working out rather well. The army feels tied together regardless of the type of model being painted. Which is something I really wanted, even when it leads to more work (those warhounds were mind numbingly a pain... hand painting each line of fur 3 times almost drove me nuts lol.

And as for building your own warshrine .. absolutely go for it ... they are a very unique choice in our book right now with a million possibilities for theme to them. As you can see I wanted one to tie in the daemon models I am using as great weapon marauders of khorne. The other one is being built as we speak and will be a converted empire model with a burning fireball on the top and crazed cultists pulling it. Which in turn gave me the idea to use empire flagellants and then getting a unit of 28 of them to count as marauders with flails. (now the cat's out of the bag i will have to post WIP pics of that soon). But the point is that converted models can help theme entire sections of your army and can really standout. With units like the warshrines there is very little you CAN'T do as long as you stick to the chariot sized base.

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

well finished the pegasus riding caster and about half way finished the chariot today. Tomorrow finish the chariot and work on the bloodletters. Oh and probably buy a few boxes of flagellants

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

Update time .... ok so I didn't quite finish the chariot today (although go everything but the final highlight stages done) but then I went to GW and got distracted by purchasing the rest of the Flagellants for my other marauder unit and second warshrine.

I got home started poking at a few things and before I knew it, it was 2 am and i had built a very characterful unit filler and the whole unit. I had to stop myself from starting up on the second warshrine for now, sleep is supposed to be good for you so i might give it a shot just as a change lol. But first pics to show the second marauder unit (mark of khorne with flails) and the unit filler.

first the filler - featuring one of my favorite models of all time the mordheim zealot with the puppet. (he seemed the perfect candidate to be the "preacher" spurring these cultists on. With two Ogre "Altar Boy" bodyguards of course)

and now a few quick pics of how it sits in the unit of crazed cultists.

Mephiston Red, then Blazing orange, then sunburst yellow. (that is actually what i use for all the fire and my lava bases)

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

the trick is to not water the orange or yellow down (maybe a drop or two to smooth it and thats it). Paint everything red, then paint the orange leaving some of the red showing then the yellow leaving some of the orange showing

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

slow couple days at the painting table, i am fighting a nasty cold and it makes it hard to concentrate on small things. I hope to finish building my other warshrine today (the one that matches the unit of cultists above).

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

well the second warshrine has yet to be completed, but for good reason, as I finally got my Forgeworld order in the mail allowing me to build my lord. I loved this model so much when I first saw it and it is what inspired me to do the entire fire/lava them with my army. So far he has just been built and undercoated, but you can see roughly how he will look. Painting the model will probably start on Monday.

"just make the Base size reasonable" go go 100mm by 100mm!

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

yeah, although it isn't the most effective mount option i do love running this guy around a battlefield.

Maybe in the new book the manticore will be 50+- points cheaper-wyvern got a point deduction after all.

Re: Burning Hatred - Mortal Chaos army,

Had a game against my friends tough skaven list and pulled out a win.... very happy, the lord on manticore pictured above managed to take out a unit of plague monks with a plague priest and furnace (being forced to issue challenges can actually work well at times)
