OMG HeroQuest! This was what got me into this hobby, I remember my Dad buying a copy for himself and I was fascinated by it.

I like how you painted the skeletons, I'll remember that!

    Re: A HeroQuest painting log

I always wanted to paint up a heroquest set. I've resolved myself to at least getting the heroes done, at some point. I've got all of them but the dwarf finished. We'll anyway, keep up the good work and good luck on finishing what should be a fun project.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Nice work all around. Myself, I'm torn between rebasing my HeroQuest models on slottabases and painting 'em green so I can mix 'em in with my Vampire Counts army, or painting them slate gray to match the stone floors on HeroQuest/Warhammer Quest.

I love how simple your painting methods are! And they still end up looking great.

The Fimir is my absolute favourite monster from HeroQuest! If GW still supported them as an army I would undoubtedly have my own force.

@Astraeos: Don't be sad! Rejoice! Forgeworld have just released new Fimir models!

This is a great idea, HQ was a great game and I have many fond memories of it. I'm collecting a few of the figures myself for use with Warhammer Quest. I really like your clean and crisp painting style.

Thanks guys! I decided to go for a quick and functional paintjob on my HeroQuest models, and I think I've found a style that suits me.

    WIP shot of the fimir:

I went for a basecoat of Gretchin green, and a wash of Gryphonne sepia on top of that. I then lightly drybrushed it with Camo green.

That Fimir is pretty powerful looking. Was he meant to be a kind of boss or something in the original game? I remember playing Hero Quest on the Atari ST - I loved it but died very easily. I was 6 or so I think to be fair.

    Love the Skeletons

    Love the Skeletons

I think the fimir was just a standard monster in the game, but it does look rather intimidating!

The Fimir was indeed a standard monster in the game. The Gargoyle was the big boss monster! And he looked a bit Bloodthirster-ish too!

Hell yeah! This is the game that got me into miniature wargaming in the first place, like early 90s.

Cool, they look just like their monster card pic! Also for those wondering about the power of a fimir, with an Attack and Defence of 3 they were (or are, if you still play HQ) kind of the medium monster, being more powerful than an Orc or Skeleton but less tough than a Mummy or Chaos Warrior.

But watch out because the Shape Shifter started out looking like one...

    Re: A HeroQuest painting log

I'm glad you like the fimir!

Now I've started to look at the chaos warriors (there's four of them), but I'm having trouble deciding on the colour scheme. I have several ideas though:

    1. Homage to the "Red period" - I guess some of you remember the time when chaos warriors wore red armour? I'm just worried that I won't be able to make red armour look good. Maybe this look would work?

    2. Black knights - I had an idea about giving them black armour for a menacing look. I like the look of GW's Warhammer chaos warriors from the studio army, and it would be easier than red...

    3. Dark iron - I was also toying with the idea of painting them metal and then washing them with Black ink for a very dark metal finish.

    What do you guys think?

They look really good! I guess darker red is the way to go if I want to use a red scheme.

I think if you can pull it off, go for the red period homage! Heroquest is from that period anyway.

    Re: A HeroQuest painting log

    There are 4 Chaos Warriors
There are 4 main Chaos Powers/Gods

Sounds like an opportunity for one of each
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... and then it's just fun!
