Angry Erik_Morkai's PLOG: Space Wolves, Eldar and stuff (IMG intensive)

Greetings, people have been asking to see some of my work on another forum and I thought what the heck, post them everywhere and get maximum feeback.
Please bear in mind that I have less than 100 figs of experience and I only started about a year and a half ago. Still I see a healthy progression from my first models. Here are some of the ones I got done during the recent months.

    Long Fangs

As for the Sgt this is one of my best 'face' to date.

Here is a Deathwatch Devastator I made for fun. I was also practicing my highlights and a new highlight color to use on black. Came out pretty well. Good contrast but still subtle.

    My first Space Wolf Terminator
The thunder hammer came out nicely thanks to an awesome tutorial I found on youtube. I adapted it for the SW hammers which have runes and icons on them. I am proud of the final result.

My first Dire Avenger. This is a test model to check for color combinations. Basecoat was done with airbrush (my first with some supervision from a friend of mine). Decent result for a first time.

Looking good there, god knows my first models were terrible. Yours are way better than my first attempts.

You seem to have a nice tidy painting style, my first tip would be to have a go with the gw washes. A light wash all over with badab black of devlan mud really helps to bring out the detail on a model by adding shade.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

My first figs were terrible too, I didn't water down paints. Looks like you've come a good way.

Ditto on the washes. I may not like gw's policies or prices, but their washes are amazing. One of my friends jokingly referred to Devlen Mud as "talent in a bottle".

I hope this is not cheeky as I've not been painting long but I think basing the model makes a big difference than just having the black base. I also like the others think the washes are amazing and recommend them a lot. They make a huge difference for me

I love your Dire Avenger he looks nice and smoothly painted and the gems and his helmet are really nice.

I am about to try a lighting effect like you have on your hammer terminator but probably with purple. Could I have your recipe, please?

Hehe to be honest I was going to try it with purple on my next power weapon. I got the info from a nice tutorial on youtube, the link is at the bottom of the message. To do it purple you will need 2-3 shades so probably Hormagaunt purple, Lich Purple and Warlock purple. For the rest you need Necron Abyss, Chaos Black and Skull white. Check out the tutorial and it really is almost as easy as it looks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0amfUYFImBM

Here I go again, applied some tips namely in the wash department. Here is my latest batch of Long Fangs and a Ragnar that made in record time (for me anyway) because I was in a hurry to get him done for a game.

This is my first Long Fang using the Forge World missile launcher (at $15 PER regular Missile launcher in a bitz store, the FW weapon pack is gold)

Backpack is a bit crooked because the ML reaches real far behind. Going to find a way to adapt for the next one.

The flare on the legs is not due to gloss but rather the flash going off real close. I need to find some better lighting for pictures.

Plasma Canons are controlled by IDE cables...scary isn't it?

Still have a shoulder pad to do on that one

Re: Erik_Morkai's PLOG: Space Wolves, Eldar and stuff (IMG intensive)

Allright this next project was done on the fly and with limited time, still I am quite proud of myself for many reasons.

    - First airbrushed model I did solo.
    - First legible freehand for the text (yay)

The reason: I have signed up for a tournament and we are being asked to bring one model with the theme "The Messenger" which will likely be used as an objective in a game or something. I pondered about what I could do, how and why. I came up with the UPS theme because it was simple to do color wise and I had the colors on hand. For the messenger part I stuck as many purity seals as I could without being "too much". I used an Devastator Sgt Auspex for his code bar reader and a melta bomb and ammo case for package. Then I tought about what to do with the other hand. Power fist to knock on big doors? But found the pointy finger one and thought it would fit more the theme to have the model actually ring the doorbell. Added a banner for extra publicity and went to work.

Step 1: Basecoated with some Scorched Brown

Step 2: Used some zenith lighting technique to send some Graveyard Earth at the right angle to create a natural highlight.

Step 3:Boom kinda got carried away things were going so smoothly I might have skipped a few steps so here goes: I washed the whole armor with badab black which re-darkened the armor because airbrushed scorched brown comes off rather light.

I managed a wee bit of freehand on the shoulder pad's tag

While keeping with the theme I stuck some extra purity seals here and there.

The last two pictures I added the flash to bring out some of the little details.

Lol, very good. Though you should make a scenic base with a door for him!

Allright been away for a while working on another project and got sidetracked on an Imperial Bastion project for a friend. It was my first large scale project with my new airbrush, loved the way it came out. Now for that project I was asked to make it gothic looking with shades of grey, brass and such. This is what came out of it.
