Re: Gang wars miniatures - lovely necromunda figures

Does anybody else hear AC/DC playing in the background?

At first sight I really liked the Stealth Ladies, but then somebody on another forum mentioned their clown shoes...and I've found that hard to unsee.
Still, a review would be very welcome.

Re: Gang wars miniatures - lovely necromunda figures

Ordering a few, since they are cheap enough, in my next shapeways order (probably this weekend) so I'll post pics.

As for the thuggers, my camera's pretty low res, so here are pics someone else posted of theirs.

Even the low quality shapeways materials hold decent detail alright.

We have very different ideas of 'decent detail' if those are about 35mm high.

Curiously, since I made that post, they have removed the second option of the cheaper material for them. However, the frosted ultra that they come in at 4 a piece is pretty good. The quality of that stuff is only a little way below the detail threshold GW's plastics are at. Maybe on a par with 1999 GW plastics. (think 3rd ed 40k box)

As for detail on the thuggers there in the white strong&flexible material (The cheapest material shapeways do) bear in mind that at their actual scale, that jawline for example, is the width of my fingernail, and those ball joints in the knees and elbows that allow posing (and more importantly transforming) are 2mm diameter. Also the grilles on their legs have exactly the same spacing as the ones on a marine's backpack. If they weren't using a mesh copied almost directly from the War For Cybertron game, they could be less blocky, but they're designed to be that way because it's what collectors want. Lemme find some galleries of decent 28mm minis in the various materials for comparison. I know of at least one site that does shapeways material comparisons.

Added pic of a 28mm fig in the same kind of frosted ultra material these Necromunda minis are produced in.

Little rough on the surface, but with the right primer I shouldn't imagine too much difficulty. Interesting stuff.

Or TLR version of my posts here-

They're not gonna be your minis of choice for Golden Demon entries, but they'll stand up to regular tabletop use among friends.

There's a thread on eastern fringe with some pictures. Seems they are still having a level of trouble choosing the material.

    Hello all

I am the guy running Gang War Miniatures. I've been reading your posts and am keeping all of your comments in mind while working on new miniatures. I thought you'd like to see the latest figures printed out. I slapped a quick and sloppy base coat on.

That frosted clear is quite nice, and the detail looks quite good - any chance of you taking advantage of the material? Maybe producing some stealthy figures etc?

Right now the focus is on representing different gangs but I'm open to suggestions. What kind of figures are you thinking, GomezAddams?

That's a good idea - I'm imagining a fem!Delaque version of the Major from Ghost in the Shell.

    @notnorm:
I'm definitely in favour of the concept, but the models themselves... I don't know. I rather like the one in the middle, though.

The trousers on the one on the right look like the waistband is too wide and too low, so she looks like she's standing with her legs apart in an attempt to stop them falling off, and the trenchcoats look like some amalgamation of coat and cape. If it was me, I would have either had the coat buttoned to hold it in place or have the coat fall either side of the breasts rather than covering them - or some of each. Either that, or they need to start recruiting women with smaller bustlines. And if they're meant to be actual trenchcoats and not just trenchcoat-inspired fashion items, I think the bottom part of the cape needs more folds to suggest it's got the circumference to be pulled around the entire body - at the moment, it looks too much like it wouldn't fit around her legs.

Slightly better pic. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll be re sculpting the trench coats eventually.

    Hi Gang

A lot has happened since my last post! I spent a ton of time trying to figure out how to make it possible to print bodies, weapons and heads separately but due to the way that Shapeways prices things it wouldn't work. There is a startup fee for every "model". The only way to avoid the startup fee is to spread it out among a bunch of figures printed at once. That is why they are printed in threes or fours. If you were purchasing all three separately you are paying the startup fee three times rather than just once. That being said. . . . NEW MINIATURES!

If you look at that particular item, their is a picture of some printed miniatures with a paint or ink coat on them.

Are they ready to go straight out of the box? Nope - not even close. However, if you don't mind a little bit of work (or even a lot of work) - things like these provide a good starting point for doing conversions and what not.

I think the Stealth ladies look quite nice and I would definately consider to create my whole gang out of these minis - if I could. Because lacking Heavies and Leader Minis, I´d be forced to combine them with other, which is not really possible due to their very special style.
There also needed to exist more different models of the same Ganger, so that I would not need to have duplicates in my gang...
