Which GW plastic boxed sets are best for putting together your own BB team. I've just put together a new BB team out of Dark Elf Corsairs and Dark Eldar Wyches.

40k Ork Boyz are good for an Orc team, using WHFB Black Orcs for, well, Black Orcs..
I also used a mix of Space Marine Tacticals and Assault Squads combined with Fantasy Marauders for a human team.

I agree that 40k ork boyz are perfect for an orc BB team, add some shoulder pads and clip the weapons and they have just the right look.
Other than that I'm not so sure. Various types of plastic undead work well too, and lizardmen, but fantasy models with clothes tend to look too fantasy-like to fit well into the semi-cyberpunk look of the BB world, in my view.
Currently building the Chaos Marauder element of my Chaos Pact team out of Chaos Marauders.
Bow down to my elite conversion skills :-)
On a more genuine note, I got a nice DE team from DE Corsair legs, DE Cold One Knight torsos and some extra DE and HE bits for heads and arms etc.

Not painted yet, but I'll get a picture up tomorrow of the bland grey plastic.
The Ork Nobs look pretty hot for conversions, as do the Wood Elves (I think it's an Archer/Glade Guard kit). I've seen nice conversions using Lizardmen Temple Guard, incorporating the shields. The most obvious seems to be the Night Runner kit: it's so easy to snip the weapons off, and you can use different parts to delineate different positionals, such as claws for blitzers and cloaks for Night Runners.
Like Korinth, I'm more of a metal person - if you're objective is to make new, cool models, conversions are great, but I think comparatively it's cheaper to buy a metal team and get the separate pieces to max the team out, generally.
I
Agreed, and while choosing from a large set of OOP and current of miniatures, it is not impossible to convert metal pieces either. Check out this awesome Wilhelm Chaney conversion! http://www.talkfantasyfootball.org/v...p?f=23&t=35810

I definitely agree with marauder box set being good. the ork set needs too many extra pieces, you will only get the linemmen and blitzers, no gobbos, no Black Orcs or troll. I have seen amazons made from a deamonettes of slaanesh box. I Heard about making a goblin team from gnoblar box set. that set has a ball and chain model, piggy backing model(pogo) model with sling and rock(bombardier). the glade guard set is great for a wood elf team. the dwarf warrior box set will work. Ive seen a High elf team made with the High elf spearmen set, not a big fan of the skirts though. the gutterrunner set will make a good skaven team.

Shoes are nice but not necessary. Motivation, bullets and powder first.
@Gloryseeker: I really like those. The helmets do look good.
Another option are Mantic's stuff, their Dwarves and Elves are pretty good, particularly the Elf scouts and Dwarf warriors. The Chaos Dwarf-equivalent are too pricey to use though, I think.
I've got a pic of my orc team actually, here: http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ent=BBOrcs.jpg
@glory seeker: I did an elf team that is very similar to yours I used a mixture of dark eldar heads, eldar bodies, and eldar and wytch legs.
also made my entire orc team from various orc bits, mostly assault on black reach orcs but I also ordered a bunch of bits for variety and even dipped into savage orcs.

There are a lot of possibilities on this way.
I've done a team of lizards using saurus and shinks (only the kroxi in metal), a team of skaven using the mordheim warband (all plastic except the ratogre), a team of norse using the chaos marauders (metal yehtee as snow troll) with a little trick to do the werewolves.
I've done also a team of dark elves but in a different way: all metal. Dark elves are the only race who has both male and female players. I've done the opposite than usual: only two males (fron some old dark eldar miniatures) and the rest fron witch elves. They are great to rapresent every role.

High Elves are probably best made from White Lions, but are quite pricey.
I used a single box of Marauders and a few catachan arms for my Norse team (although I used two IoB Rat Ogres for my Werewolves)
Still trying to come up with a good conversion for Chaos dwarfs.
He's a semi aquatic, egg laying mammal of action.
To Insanity... and beyond.
As already mentioned, Marauders are a great boxed set to get a Norse or Human team out of. I done this with my own blood bowl team... and made enough stuff so that I can field them as either race depending on what I feel like!
You can chop the horns from the helmets and a bit of filing will give you convincing looking sports helmets!
It is pretty difficult to find a single kit that can make you a whole team (GW making most plastic boxed sets only contain 10 models doesn't help).
I've found the best solution is to kitbash a few sets together as it is really important when playing that your opponent can tell the positional players apart. I also like my teams to actually look like sports stars rather than soldiers who have put their weapons down. The various bitz services are a great source for this so you can buy a boxed set to use as the main part of the players and then get the extra stuff online without having to shell out loads of cash for just a couple of bits.
Below are a few all plastic conversions I've done. personally I like plastic for Bloodbowl teams as they take a lot more punishment than those from 40K or fantasy and plastic chips less easily than metal. They can be a little light so prone to get blown about and that means base weights are well worth having.
The ghouls were converted by swapping their bodies for the bloodletters with pads from kroot warriors and the helmet from the greatswords.

I made this player deliberately generic so she could be used as a pro, wood or dark elf, an amazon or even a human player. She is made from a mixture of old and new dark elder bits.

The Khemri Blitz-ras are made from a mix of necron, tomb king and wight bits.

The Saurus is from the temple guard with spikes from the chaos spawn, pads from plastic orks and loin cloth from dire avengers,

The pact marauder is a mix of chaos marauder, greatsword and a chaos knight head.
