117th Vostroyan grenadiers "Blue bloods" or The start of something with alot of Furry hats

Well ive decided to have complete my army collection which already consists of a Chaos force (Iron Warriors) a Xenos army (Tau Tros`san sept hunter cadre) and now i want to be represented in all sides of the game and have decided to add an Imperial force to my collection...

How it started

Ive always liked the Vostroyan models and i love metal minis they are just cool! So i had a little browse online and had a look at prices etc etc and i really fancied them but thought "No no i have my Tau to paint i will do it in the future sometime" so i sensibly closed down the window and went of with my day.

Later that night

Well it was a saturday and my mate rings me and says "Fancy going out?" so i agreed... and went out on the town with some pals drank a few beers then moved onto a club and then thats where it gets a bit blurry.

Needless to say ALOT of alcohol was drunk, at about 2am the club closed and we all went home, i went online for a bit when i got back for some reason then passed out and left my laptop by the bed.

Unforseen consequences

So i wake up and check my phone...a ton of emails are on there which i found a bit strange for a sunday morning. I had a browse through them and there were a few from ebay some from paypal and some from GW....

...To my suprise i had managed to order about 110 quids worth of Vostroyan infantry when totally hammered! To say i was suprised was and understatement. But it must have been a sign, The Vostroyans had called to me after all.

So my purchases have now arrived and i got.

2 boxes of Firstborn infantry.
A command squad.
A Vostroyan officer with Chainsword and Boltpistol.
A Lascannon team
and a big batch off ebay of 23 guys mostly lasgun guys but also a flamer, a heavy bolter team and a squad leader.
5 Plasma gun vostroyans on Ebay for ten quid! boom!!

The plan is to have a grenadier regiment with all carapace armoured up vet squads some in Chimeras and some not in Chimeras, the reasons for this are...

1. Vostroyans are well armoured and look suit being heavy infantry.
2. I have alwaaaaaays wanted to do a heavy infantry regiment of guard after reading up about the Volpone blue bloods in gaunts ghosts.
3. To keep the infantry count down a bit have you seen the price of vostroyans!!!!

I am taking another cue from the Volpone bluebloods and plan to do my Vostroyans in a royal blue colour similar to the French army in world war 1. I am quite excited about doing this project now and am looking forward to slowly building them up into a solid fighting force.

The fluffy bit

The 117th Vostroyan Grenadiers, "Blue bloods are a regiment first raised on Vostroya some time in the 36th millenia to counter act the Rebellion in the star system of Vanaris prima. When the regiment was first raised it numbered around 4500 men and was part of a larger Battlegroup consisting of several other Vostroyan regiments who were all to be sent to Vanaris prima to end the Tyranic leader Mustrom the pious who had rallied several worlds in the Vanaris system to his cause.

Blue Bloods
The regiment first attained its name because of the unusually high number of recruits drawn from noble families on vostroya. Vostroyan regiments usually consist of a mixture of all classes and backgrounds however due to a twist of fate to which the origins are unknown, the majority of the regiment seemed to be pooled from wealthy upper class families

The highborn status of many of the firstborn of the 117th meant they were quickly labelled as snobs and pompus compared to many of the other regiments more humble backgrounds and soon picked up the nickname "Bluebloods"

Despite this, they earned respect quickly from brother regiments as despite their noble upbringing the firstborn of the 117th trained as hard as any man of Vostroya.

Battlefield Doctrine and role

While the regiment was originally not perhaps as numerous as some of the other infantry regiments they had shown a great proficiency at close quarter battle and utilising armoured transports during training.

The decision was made to use the 117th as a grenadier regiment, they would be issued with heavy carapace armour and sent into the heaviest of the fighting where their superior armour and equipment would make the difference. Large numbers of men were trained with assault weapons such as flamers and Melta weapons, tools that would be invaluable in the close quarter battles that the regiment were sure to fight as a grenadier unit.

The 117ths battlefield role was one that was meant to carry the day for the Imperial forces. While other regiments would wear the oppositon down with attrition and heavy bombardment the 117th would be the point of the spear and tear through the enemy lines with mechanised heavy infantry and tanks, opening the way for other regiments to break through and capitalise.

History

Since the original raising of the regiment they have been re formed many times, during their orginal action in the Vanaris Prima campaign the Blue Bloods were essential in dozens of pivotal battles. Perhaps the most significant being the Battle of Hubria, a well defended settlement held by a large enemy force of infantry and dug in artillery. The Blue bloods led the charge with Chimeras and Demolisher tanks smashing through the enemy line and despite taking significant losses their heavily infantry carried the day with an inexorable advance.

To this day each raising of the regiment has come with an unusual number of highborn sons, with many noble families having notably attempted to use their connections to get their sons into such a prestigious regiment.
