Nice scheme and painting on the infantry squads, very good colour scheme that works well with the bases and the hats separated by the blue and brown. Makes them look almost Napoleonic.

One suggestion for the tanks is to perhaps dry brush first as the extreme edge highlight you have used sort of looks a little 'rough'. I would use a very light dry brush of a blend of your base colour and highlight colour to try and reduce the rippled edging you have on the tanks.

    Keep up the painting war,

Thanks CB yeah ive capped myself at 3 armies though so there wont be anymore! Good point on the tanks i will try that. I think my highlighting could do with a bit of work i agree, the tank was done quite quickly if im honest as it took FOREVER to do the infantry and i tried to bang the tank out quickly so i may go back and have a little re-do on the old Chimera.

Based up infantry squad 2 tonight so they will be getting some TLC, as soon as i can get round to it!

Thanks buddy, well now you mention it i do have a teeeny weeny update.

I have finally begun on 2nd squad! ive decided on the direction to army will go on a table top level as well. I at first wanted a small army with all carapace guys but after some playtesting it just isnt very practical at all. I also considered a mech army but i think its a bit of a cop out so have decided to go with a mix, several vet squads mounted up in Chimeras with a couple platoons of infantry in support with some heavy armour.

I splurged a large amount of cash and have just bought myself 70 odd more vostroyan infantry which will bring my army up to about 120 strong infantry wise which is great. Rate i have been painting these guys should now increase but i dont want the quality to suffer so im going to take my time.

Also tanks....my Chimera, i have had a look at it and im not pleased. I really rushed it and im going to go back and re-do it. Highlights are a bit iffy and too bright as well, i think im just going to concentrate on infantry for the time being.

    anyway a single pic!!!

    Bluebloods advance!!!

Re: Vostroyan 117th Grenadiers "Blue Bloods"

Ok so here i am again. The Vostroyan 117th have been slowly building up the strength to strike out! and there has been some progress, my 2nd unit of veterans has been completed!!

It is extremely slow going as the amount of detail on each infantry model is immense. The stages of painting take a long time but am really enjoying working on my Vossies. Anways here are the pics.

The squad, all ready for battle!

Plasma gunners get ready to roll a 1....

Sergeant Anyukov directs the troops forward.

I will do a group shot soon with both squads together but not just yet. I do plan to make some squad markings on the shoulder pads before they get varnished to death very soon. I think the purity seal i bought years ago is going to get some good use with an all metal army!

Hope you like the new guys.

Re: Vostroyan 117th Grenadiers "Blue Bloods"

Right ok so ive re-done my Chimera, gone over the bright blue highlights and drybrushed the whole model lightly with Boltgun metal. Then i went over the edges lightly with one of the new GW paints which was a much darker blue.

Here are both of my Vet squads and the Chimera all together!

    The 117th sound the advance!!!

Next up: On the painting tabkle next will be second squads Chimera. That should not take too long really as its quite a simple process to do the Chimeras. Im thinking of adding some weathering but i really dont know what im doing in that respect so the plan is to make the tanks nice and neat then go back and do more on them if needed.

Top notch work there mate. You seem to be growing in confidence with the colour scheme and the Chimera looks loads happier with the toned-down highlights.

Good work, don't let the large number of troops needed intimidate you...because the finished product of a whole painted guard army gets attention and is worth the effort.

I like how the tank has worked out for you and the squad is excellent.

    Cheers,

I own a vostroyan army, so I know fiddly they are. They're incredibly difficult to do right. Especially in other colours than the classic GW colours

Re: Vostroyan 117th Grenadiers "Blue Bloods"

Ok another small update, a Chimera has rolled off the production line on Vostroya and has joined up with the other Chimera mounted unit! The army grows.

So here she is V2 !

A little closeup of some of my freehand

    And the pair!

In light of the new 6th Edition rules i think my Chimeras are going to get popped alot but hey we are the guard and what do you expect!

Next on the painting table is my 3rd and final squad of Chimera mounted vets, this lot will be armed with Flamers. Then once those chaps have been done its onto the Infantry platoons....

...This log is going to be loooong!

Re: Vostroyan 117th Grenadiers "Blue Bloods"

Those Chimeras look really good mate and the light weathering is a cool touch. I think they might look good with a contrasting colour to break up all the blue though (lovely as it is). I've recently painted up a light grey Chimera and used a deep orange chevron design on the hull which works well. Something like that in a white could work on yours. Either way, this log has inspired me to start my own small Vostroyan force...

Hi Rogerio, your Vostroyans are coming along nicely! 70 in one go is a big purchase, did you buy 7 firstborn squads or did you manage to score some second hand? If you don't mind me asking, what colour did you use to paint the wood grain highlights on the weapons? I'm also inspired to finish off my army

Re: Vostroyan 117th Grenadiers "Blue Bloods"

    Thanks guys,

@by the sea - the lasguns and wooden stocks are done by bestial brown basecoat followed by a watered down wash of devlan mud (still got 4 pots left ) then just lightly brush some snakebite leather in fine lines over the top to get the grain effect! Also yeah alot of my guys have been from ebay, ive bought about 4 squads and a command squad from gw and about another 60-70 guys ive got second hand!

@whitetip - yeah thanks mate i have thought about sticking another random colour in there but if im honest im pretty happy with how they have turned out so far, i like adding small details here and (like the kill markings) but appart from that i prefer the uniform colour of the blue!

@leemanruss - yeah its been a bit too long ! Next month though ill be able to play again!

Wonderful job on the boys in blue Rogerio. Your infantry look very nice, but I gotta say, the chimera are superb. I looked at these on my kindle the other day and the tanks didn't look so hot (screen size is WAY too small on that thing to be looking at minis), but now that I see them on a full screen...all I can say is damn fine work.

Only nitpick at all would be the plasma gunners. Were it me I would paint the plasma coils something besides blue...one to enhance the plasma feel, and two to get a good contrast in there. That aside, please keep up the good work. I'm living vicariously through you, as I've too much other crap on my plate to start painting my own vostroyans...

Looking good so far I can't wait to see more blue boys! Though I do have a question. Why have you decided to paint your grenades with such a vibrant green?

The reason I ask is because I also painted my grenades green (goblin green to be precise) for years. It wasn’t until I started my own Imperial Guard army, and I was already using a lot of green, that I noticed how strange they looked.
