    LOTR new releases

Anyone notice the new advance orders yet? Bunch of new books, some new models, some re-released (all finecast), and a casualties set:

Yes, I did! Got in in my Facebook feed this morning. I'm wondering if the books are just a compilation of previously released stuff, or if there was a rebalance done on everything. I'd love for this to be a tweaking of stats and points - bringing up forces like Rohan and Army of the High King to be more in line with current armies. All in all, though, I'm really excited to see GW putting effort into the SBG again. I figure the Hobbit movie is coming out soon, so that's probably the rationale.

    Re: LOTR new releases

Indeed, I might look into this. I still have a whole host of LOTR minis lying about which have gone unused for years, but I very much prefer SBG to WOTR (I just like the skirmish style better). The last rulebook I have is still the old ROTK book, but the whole host of expansion books and White Dwarfs containing rules here and there was really putting me off. If these book contain all rules for each of the races that would be a good reason to pick them up.

Some of those new commander models look pretty nice, as do the casualties (although I would've like to see more Orcs/Men of Rohan instead of Easterlings and Dwarves, but this is not bad at all).

I am definitely buying a Dweller in the Dark, albeit to use as another Daemonprince in my 40k and Fantasy Daemon army. And if i have the cash spare i'll be picking up a Great beast of Gorgorath, because that thing looks fantastic. The new goblin heroes also make me want to rummage around for my Moria stuff and give it a new lick of paint.

I am most interested in the source books; none of the models actually catch my eye (aren't they just resin versions of previously released metal models?).

The new plastic Easterling Kataphrakts are very good, I love them!

The command sets are, but a good chunk of these are entirely new - the Watcher, Mini-rog, Gorgoth Beast, Warg, Goblin characters etc.

The Watcher is so tempting it's unfair, but I can't really justify the price tag when I've got so many other monsters for multiple systems lying around and taking up space. It also looks as fragile as a Hobbit's weight-loss plan. I'll stick to me Balrog, providing that the big guy gets an appropriate points tag (400pts for 4 attacks and no monstrous charge? No way Jose).

The command sets have a new model in them, along with 3 models that were available before. At least some of them do, they specifically mentioned the Rohan set in the What's new today post, but Im pretty sure I recognise all the models in the moria set for example.
My random painting log: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

    Painting target 2012: 212 models. Number complete: 212 !!!!!!!!

Models to paint this year (2013) so far: 266 Number complete: 16

Those are some nice models. I certainly like the plastic Kataphrakts. Very nice.

Oh and something you may not have noticed that is also newsworthy. Remember that thread someone started that had to do with GW repackaging infantry and raising pr..er..a topic that can't be said here or else it will be closed? Well they did it. Have fun raising a WotR army now. Enjoy.

Agreed! Very exciting, but the big question for me is whether the source books are compilations without any changes, in which case I hesitate to drop all that money on them (I'd need all five for the armies I collect!). But if they have been rebalanced, or have lots of new content too (scenarios, etc.) I will happily buy 'em all....

We know that Haradrim have gone up a point, so they're clearly not shirking from that kind of thing.

Also, we know for a fact that Erkenbrand (Rohan hero) has a new special rule that allows Riders of Rohan in his warband to be F4 instead of F3 for +1p each. My guess is that there will be other similar cases. I also heard a rumour Eomer may count as a drum, but I have no certainty on that. Would be ace, though, I don't see why Good shouldn't be able to do double-quick marches.

Those sound like WOTR rules, though, and these are SBG books, so I'm not sure if this would apply?

Nope. Those are part of the new warband rules apparently. Gilgalad and Amdur are similar

Pretty happy with most of the stuff, not sure I like the pricing on the command sets though for finecast...

I agree with the pricing issue, as an aside has anyone noticed that they have already added a price increase for the kits on the website compared to the stated costs in white dwarf?

Was a misprint, as opposed to a price increase. It's covered on the website.
Plastic is great. Light, easy to convert, doesn't chip the paint off when you bump the model...

That's why when they makes a unit plastic and charge the same as when it was metal I don't care. To me the model just got better for the same cost, who cares about anything else. ~ Malorian

Yeah I think it's clear that between the time it took them to send the WD to the printers and release day they decided to add about 25% extra on to the prices. It appears that some of the online Indy stockists were also initially given the lower prices as well as some of them were adv ordering at the lower price, I hope they don't lose too much money over GWs greed though.
