    Dax's fantasy painting log

Well it's been a good while since I posted any of my work (the old thread has well and truly vanished) it's not that I haven't painted anything I just haven't been bothered to take any photos for awhile. So I've decided to start a new log again now it may not be updated all that often but I'll try to get stuff posted every now and then.

First up is a Banshee. She was painted just to test the ethereal colour scheme for when I paint the coven throne.

The hair was hours of endless fun I've only painted ginger hair once before so I wasn't sure exactly where to go with it. The base needs a bit of a tidy up.

Next up Work in progress on my Lahmian Lord on zombie dragon.

The dragon was originally built with the Blood dragon vampire rider but I've decided to go for all female vampires so I converted a female rider and modified the dragon after it had already been built. I had to remove the saddle and move it forward so that the cloaks could hang down the sides. The spines where replaced with some left over terrorgheist bits. The legs are from a HE dragon mage, they maybe slightly too long but it's not that noticeable. I added some extra layers and gems to the cloth to match the vampire on the coven throne. The hands where swapped for the plastic Tzeencth lords hands and the sleeves where resculpted a bit.

Hope to paint her over the next few weeks - as I said slow progress ahead oh this won't just be vampire counts that's just what I'm working on until the next shiny thing catches my eye.

C&C welcome as always. I've always found the feedback on here very helpful.

Small update not worth adding another post - I've added a little more detail to the skirt it will help with the painting stage.

Wow, exceptional conversion on the Lahmian rider. Considering your ace job on the banshee, I am excited to see her painted. All-ginger female vampire army? :P

Looks amazing- I had been thinking of putting a female vamp on the zombie dragon- but I had been thinking of having her ride side saddle. But your conversion looks fantastic- looking forward to seeing her painted up.
My random painting log- 3/3/2013 now painting winter VC- black knights.

    Re: Dax's fantasy painting log

Thanks for the comments so far. I haven't abandoned the log just yet! I have exams next week so not a lot of time to do stuff and I should be studying but the new empire stuff arrived and I've knocked 3 minis together from left over bits.

    First up Bright Wizard

I'm not using Volkmar and his robes have a nice flame pattern so it was screaming out to be made into a Bright Wizard. The rest is mostly Flagellant bits. The flame collar was made from Greatsword standard tops.

    Next Amber Wizard

I used a LOTR corsairs legs for the nice baggy pants look.

Lastly for now a Warrior Priest

Again using Volkmar's arms, Flagellant legs and Greatsword bits. Conversion inspired by Dark Apostle's Warrior Priest conversion.

Not bad for a load of left overs!

Hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently in about 3 weeks when the exams are finished. C&C welcome as always.

    Re: Dax's fantasy painting log

Found the WIP picture of my other Warrior Priest which is almost a copy of Dark Apostle's

    And here he is painted

I have to base him when I decide exactly how I want to base the whole army. He's painted as a priest of Morr as that's part of my theme. The other priest will be painted in a similar scheme. I have a mounted version finished as well but I'll save that for another time.

I'll stick my Tzeentch Sorcerer in as well while I'm at at. He appeared in my old log but it's been gone awhile now.

Your painted warrior priest is stunning but I would not have guessed he was a priest of Moor, given that he has a two-tailed comet on his chest.

    Re: Dax's fantasy painting log

Thanks Duke Donald. Well the comet does have a skull on it I actually really like the comet tails so I've included them even though they're not really Morr as such

Last one for now. I wasn't going to post these but I've shelved the unit for now in favour of getting the essential stuff done so it could be quite a while before I get back to them.

Death's Head Regiment Sergeant and Banner. These are very much work in progress.

The head was converted from the Gold Wizard head and I've cast about 30 of them the only metal I plan to have in the army. I've added plastic feathers to give them a bit of variety. I've seen a few attempts at these but they're always done with actual skulls and they never really look like a man wearing a skull mask/helmet so that's what I've tried achieve.

Ignore the writing on the banner that has to be changed and the Sergeants rose needs to change to purple. A very expensive unit to convert considering they're only going to be used as Halberdiers with shields but so worth it once finished and every Ostermark army needs some Death's Heads.

    EDIT:

Here's a picture of the Death's Head Regiment for comparison. I went with Bone coloured masks rather than white as I preferred the look of it.

    Re: Dax's fantasy painting log

Not much into 40K myself prefer fantasy just like to paint the odd piece now and again. I have a few Space Wolves on the go but that's a long term thing.

This is the most recent 40K thing I've painted and even this is more fantasy the 40K. As you can see I'm terrible at getting bases done I need to get a load done at some point.

I used to struggle with bases too. Now that's why I do them all first.

    Nice log.
