Greetings,
Well much to my wifes dislike i have once again caught the man dollie bug. At the beginning of the year i sold of all my warhammer and 40k armies thinking i was done with the hobby. I have tried and tried to find other means of soothing my nerdy urge but none seem to quench my hunger.

So once again i take the plunge and this time it will be back to Space marines doing a purely Pre heresy army. So this means all Forge World and 3rd party parts. This is is going to be a long slow process as i have a son to look after and a daughter on the way. Ill be sneaking in late night painting sessions wherever i can.

To begin i am going to start with the HQ element of the army and then work onto Troops, Elites and maybe Heavies. Not to sure how i want to run this army, at the moment im thinking a Tac Sqd heavy army in drop pods or Rhinos. I do however want to include a Sqd of custodes in the army and run them as vanguard without jump packs, ill have to check the rules. Jet bikes are a must on my list to.

Colour wise i was thinking nice bright blue with gold trim and red bolters. Still umming and arrring weither or not i should use white on the vets. In the beginning i was thinking of using yellow instaed of gold for the shoulder trims but had a look around on google and just looks to cheesy. Pretty keen to really use the roman theme so this means helmet crests ranging from small to large depending on status.

For bases i watched a video on youtube from secret weapon minis, it was a tutorial on there wetland basing pack. WOW fell in love straight away. So the army will be sloshing through water and swamps .

Company/Chapter im still undecided on, after reading first heretic a few times i could to the 19th aethon company with there flaming horse but i think ill wait till the new "Know No Fear" book comes out.

Currently i have on the way in the mail:

Chapter master- Roboute Guilliman
Picked up the kabuki millenium knight of ebay so cheap it was criminal. Going to change the head and put a FW mkII-III back pack on him. I originally was going to go the velard/ronin sculpt but its tooo big.

Honour Guard-
Got the metal marneus calgar honour guard sqd, with a back pack and bolter swap i think these will fit in very nicely.

Librarian- Fw severin loth
Yep jumped on the band wagon and picked up the red scorp librarian. Is a gorgeous miniature and with a quick shoulder pad and pack swap will fit in well.

A pack of phbos pattern bolters and a dozern MK II & III back packs.
Secret weapon basing kit and blasted wetland bases.
About 30 Vallejo game colour paints.



So thats my HQ choices for now. Hopefully they will all get here by the end ofthe week. My first paint job will be Roboute himself. So if you got to here thanks for reading, all imput and comments most welcome.

Also an update, I have aquired 2 contemptor dreadnaughts 1 relic 1 normal. Brought 2 CCW arms, 1 Plasma cannon and a multimelta arm. So thoughts on Roboute??

That's a pretty sweet mini. I especially like the thunder/lightning iconography on it. It's very reminiscent of the unification wars and before the Aquila. I don't think I've ever seen it before, though. Where's it from/what is it of?

The base mini is from kabuki, its there millenium Knight. Think mine was 236 of 500 or something like that. The head is a blood angels head and the pack is a old 2nd Ed( maybe 3rd Ed) pack. The pack has the old style back on it like the new forgeworld pre heresy armours just the vents look modern.

Think the only issue with the "big G" is that the sculpting is so obviously not from the same source as the other models. Apart from the head could you change the power pack and sword? Can you give him any belt kit, such as grenades?

True, I like that he stand apart, after all he is the emperors son. I could not even fathom slapping some ugly belt kit to him. The back pack already is a space marine pack just from an older additon as it resembles the FW pre heresy packs.

I actually think that the Guilliman model fits really well, especially with the head and backpack. Can't say anything about the sword as the photos don't show it too well, but there are plenty of alternatives that might fit in case it looks out of place, for example the Empire General's sword should be of suitable size and style.

Hey thanks alot, the sword which is not shown very well looks like a roman gladius and i think the size doesnt detract from the model.

So while my son is sleeping today i am going to start painting my first miniature. At the moment all i can really do is get the blue done while i wait for the rest of my paints.

Here is my champion, i have spray primed him white and then laid down a blush wash of VGC imperial blue mixed 2:1 with water. NExt i will wash the model in VGC negro black.


Here is a shot after i have gone over all the armour its a 1:1 mix of VGC imperial blue and ultra marine blue. The helmet is done in wolf grey.

So a quick update, The white is blocked in as ae the reds. Just awaiting paints to do the golds and the scrolls. Im pretty happy so far. The tricky bit will be highlighting. Dont have alot of practice at this but gotta learn somewhere right?

Hey heres what i have done today, sorry for the poor pictures. When ive finishes ill pust out the monster camera and take some decent pictures. You get the general idea of the model though. Just need to highlight the blue now and finish the swords.

So did some work on guilliman today, need to redo the whites and its shadows and finish of his cloak. I cringe a bit that couldnt paint this model to the standard it deserves but im not one for getting someone else to paint my stuff.
