I'm afraid I won't be able to post this month. Things have been exceptionally crazy lately. I have some points saved up, and I should be able to post double next month.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 5 (Jan painting and Feb WIP

    Army - 2000 points dwarves

Background - Since we're playing Blood in the Badlands, I thought that the appearance of "Nuffle's Irregulars" could be linked back to a tied Bloodbowl match between dwarves and goblins, last quarter, the dwarf kicker gives the ball the boot...and it latches onto the underside of the magical floating fortress that comes around once a century. Cue the dwarf fans grabbing all available weaponry and tearing off into the Badlands after the ball (because the game can't be finished if neither team can produce another ball, and of course, neither team could) led by the referee.

Highs - I just love painting the old-school dwarves. And it's my first time with unit fillers, the ogre and the deathroller seemed appropriate.

Lows - And now it's on to the slightly more boring units - hammerers, great weapons, crossbows, etc. We'll see what else I can dredge up.

Points - 50 dwarves with hand weapons and full command run me about 480 points I believe.

    Pictures!

Army - Demons of Chaos (2000 points)

Unit - 6 furies and one herald on a bloodcrusher.

Highs - Just glad to see the end of this army in sight at this point, I've had a lot of fun painting it. Only have six bloodcrushers to go now! And maybe some odds and ends, might do a few more horrors.

Lows - Those old furies are not the greatest sculpt ever, but they'll do.

    Points - 222 all told

    Die Roll - 4

    Pictures!

Also, many apologies for no comments last month, January slipped away from me - fighting to keep my job has me working a lot of hours later at night than I generally anticipate. Will make sure to do many comments this month, I promise!

    DARK ELVES (MENS)

    DICE ROLL: 6

UNIT: Level 4 Supreme Sorceress on Dark Pegasus
Lvl 2 Sorceress + Magic Items
Lvl 2 Sorceress + Magic Items
    Assassin + Equipment

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 410 + 185 + 185 + 156 = 936 (buys back my Joker)

    TOTAL POINTS: 524 + 936 = 1460

BUILD/CONVERSION: 1) Supreme Sorceress on Dark Pegasus is a Gamezone model with hair sculpted on (was originally bald)
    2) Both Sorceresses are Avatars of War models with heads from the Dark Eldar Wyches
    3) The assassin is a stock model

HIGHS: I'm very pleased with how the head swap conversions turned out.

LOWS: I'm still experimenting with skin tones but these have turned out alright. I have butchered the eyes on some of them though and haven't had the time to fix it.

NEXT MONTH: Haven't decided yet. Dreadlord on a Dragon, Supreme Sorceress on a Manticore or a Hydra and Handlers...

    OGRE KINGDOMS (MENS)

    DICE ROLL: 2

    UNIT: Stonehorn

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 250

    TOTAL POINTS: 382 + 250 = 632

BUILD/CONVERSION: The rider has been converted into a pose that I either want to call "Ten points if I hit you between the eyes" or "This next one wont miss" . I've also replaced the trophy rack on the seat with the army standard.

HIGHS: Very happy with this guy.

LOWS: I didn't quite align the magnets properly so the rider is looking into the sky...

NEXT MONTH: Either the second Stonehorn or the two Hunters I've converted as the alternate riders...

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 5 (Jan painting and Feb WIP

Army: The High House of Chains, 2400pts of Druchii
    Monthly Target: 240 pts
    This Months Total: 248pts
    Jokers Used: 0

Completed: 11 Black Guard with full command, Razor Standard and Terrifying Mask of Eeeee

Background: As High House Chains grows in strength, it attracts the favour of other noble houses of Clar Karond. One such house is led by the Dread Lady Nymeria, Mistress of the Obsidian Tower and her Wardens act as bodyguards and lovers both. Taken from the most attractive sons of noble Druchii families and led by Morvain Salazar, the First of the Favoured, the Wardens are sworn to never reveal their faces in public, instead presenting an impassive armoured visage to those who would stand in their Lady's way.

Conversion work: Phoenix Guard torso's and arms with Kabalite Warrior heads and Hellion glaive blades topping the halberds. The censer/maces are taken from some random PP Menoth stuff I had lying around and represent the effects of the Mask of Eee, filled as they are with various burning hallucinogenic drugs. The champion is a simple double hand swap for the foot version of Prince Althran

Highs: The conversion work was so simple yet immensely effective and the reversed colour scheme has worked really well in my opinion. This has fast become one of my favourite units.

Lows: Bleergh I did not get a lot painted in January. Not entirely sure why, but I should have been able to finish the entire unit of 17 plus Nymeria herself, but instead I struggled to get these 11 done. Bad times.

Next months WiP: Last rank of 6 Wardens and Nymeria (who is already 2/3rds done). Possibly even one of those fabled chariots I keep mentioning.

    Dice Roll: 2.

    And the pics.....

The Obsidian Wardens, Favoured of the Serpent

Morvain Salazar, First of the Favoured

    Cheers everyone.

    Army: Snotlings
    Total: 1000 points

I've had the pleasant surprise of a week vacation in januari, in which I've painted the 5 remaining snotling pumpwagons and the last 6 bases of snotlings. So the army is finished.

    Dawi : 2000 POINTS (MEN)

UNIT: Thorek Ironbrow & Kraggi, & The White Dwarf.

    BACKGROUND/THEME:

BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversions, just stock models here. I'm using the the White Dwarf as a lord with assorted gubbins, as I don't know how much he costs, and I can't be botherd trawling through my WDs to find out.

PAINTING: For the metal, chainmail, with a badab black wash then a chainmail drybrush, Tallern flesh with an ogryn flesh wash and a dwarf flesh drybrush. The gold was mithril silver washed with gryphonne sepia. I basecoated the stone with fenris grey then did lighter drybrushes. Washed beards, and brass on the anvils forge.

BASING: Just black, will base the whole army together.

    STILL TO DO: Just Basing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No lows for the anvil, it's such a great mini. The White Dwarf I have though is the free one that came with a copy of the white dwarf magazine ages ago, it's my least favourite of his minis, but also the only one I own.

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 775

    TOTAL POINTS: 1325

    Dice Roll: 6

Thorek Ironbrow & The White Dwarf:

    Lizardmen : 2000 POINTS (Men)

    UNIT: 9 Cold Ones.

    BACKGROUND/THEME:

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box.

PAINTING: Basecoated black, then the foundation Dehneb stone. Chainmail on the metal bits with gryphonne sepia wash, purple wash for the scales, flesh wash for the skin and devlan mud for the scales. I wasn't very inspired by these guys as they look pretty stupid IMHO.

BASING: Sand, painted black with a heavy vermin brown drybrush.

STILL TO DO: Nothing major still unsure how to finish the bases.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Highs, not having to paint any more of these, Lows, having to paint some of these.

POINTS THIS MONTH: 200 (I've just done slightly under half the unit cost for these guys)

    TOTAL POINTS: 1093

    Dice Roll: 6

    9 Cold Ones:

    Army So Far:

    Next month: Probably some Skinks.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am dropping out of the tale. I will be selling all of my WFB and most of my 40k in the next few weeks. If anyone has any interest in my wood elves, please drop me a PM and we can talk.

Army: The Stormbreaker Tribe [2000 Points Ogre Kingdoms]

Unit: Bulrog/Gorlub, the Divided Self - Curs'd Ettin

Build/Conversion: Out of the box. Outstanding miniature. Didn't give it the broken Rhinox head though, I like him this way.

Still to do: Nothing. Besides losing hours just staring with open mouth at him, just because the miniature is that awesome.

Highs: One of the best miniatures I ever had. Incredible texture, incredible faces, incredible detail. He even has two spines!

Lows: Cheaper than GW's Finecast. Oh, that's a high? Hmm, then none.

Points: 425 (Curs'd Ettin with Gibberer and Rune Caller)
Together with the 1123 from the last months that makes a total of 1548!

    Dice roll: 4

Next month: If you take a closer look you should spot it!

    Size comparison with Irongut:

    Final work on the faces.

Lots of pictures from the this month, but maybe you can see that the Ettin looks better in real than on some (or all ) pictures from me!

Commenting these days as well, exams are almost over!

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 5 (Jan painting and Feb WIP

Time for some comments for January !!

As a general thought, is it me or it seems that less and less people are posting their work/comments ?

@ Momus : nice sallies !!Nice to see some old models getting some love. Keep it up !

@ emperornorton : I was eager to comment on your work, man. Your hydra is a pure beauty, and very nicely painted too. Your slavers conversions are good as well.

@ loki73 : great savage orcs, the skin is nice. And you seem to paint quite fast, I'm not sure I'd be able that much in a month (in number of models). I like your trolls also, I had an idea to apint mine in brown tones also, I'll save some pictures of yours for further reference. Keep it up anyway !

@ Malorian : as much as I like your conversion work, I think the painting is a bit too light (??), I mean they are not dark enough to my taste particularly the winged nightmare. But great work nonetheless ! I'd like to see more

@ gogs78 : as usual, great work, painting, basing everything is beautiful !

@ Braad : as I said in your fantasy log, your triolet of wyverns is an impressive view that makes me want to do the same. I like the savage orc boss conversion most. How did you convert azhag's mouth?

@ GuardsmenHawke : I think your model would look better with a couple highlights, unless you mean to let them like that. Great job anyway, and good luck for the next months !

@ Kaos : as always, great work on those dwarves, and the blue colour. The little men have nice expressions on their faces

@ tekore : yep, poor model looking better now thanks for sharong your wood recipe, I'll try it myself on wooden parts on my warmachines. Keep it up !

@ Laborious : super leadbelchers, I particularly dig the skin and the metal parts. The snow base is fantastic as well.

@ Rikk : superb arachnarok !! Though bigger pictures would be nice, I can tell that your spider and goblins are wonderful. I like the white pattern on the bug's back, and the red contour of the eyes

@ zark the damned : yellow is difficult to paint is a common thought. Yours looks bright and clean. However your pictures are a bit dark, I think there is a bad contrast with the background.

@ great horned owl : magnific conversion. The painting is top notch, with vibrant contrasts between the colours. The base is very beautiful, and I like beautiful bases. So keep on showing such cool models !!

That's all for page one, saty tuned for page 2
Visit and rate my fantasy log : A lot of green against a feeble mind
    Models painted 2011= 45 / 2012 = 62 / 2013 = 7
