Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 6 (JAN completed work & FEB WIP)

    So some comments then:

misterboff - sorry to see you jokering, I love your weird boy though
punkfish - some good looking guard here and the praetorians have a bit more colour to them. That commissar is a cool model.
djc - more really nice beastmen. The minotaurs with autocannon seem quite natural if you know what I mean. I like the objective markers as well. The bloodthirster is really good as well. Those old greater daemons are great models, even if they are rather small these days
Xazil - the conversion work on the dread is nice - the weapons are very understandable (is that even a word?). Nice neat paint job too.
colonel kane trine - the necrons are looking very sinister. I'd suggest a grey based basing scheme or sandy, something that isn't too dark
Monsterzonk - your chapter master is looking really good, need that mace finished though. On the joker i don't know what misterboff said but I'd let you have one back when you get the points not just if you mange it in one go.
Sgt John Keel - the astrorath model is super cool and I think your paint job does it justice, very nice.
Doi - some nice looking boyz there. I think boyz are often overlooked in favour of other stuff but for me a good load of boyz really makes an Ork army
perplexiti - you've been busy this month and no mistake. I really like the tanks and all switchable, great stuff.
dangermouse425 - a pretty good paint job all things considered on the landraider, the white is a bit stark though. Nice to see the dread with all his bling.
Devilish - the chaos sorcerer is a great base for your archon. i like the contrast between the orange and the blue, very effective.
SuperMitch - i like your sisters, they definitely mean business. The flames, although not that bright, are nice, quite realistic.

    And responses:
perplexiti - thanks a lot mate
Rikk - thanks, I didn't really know if the orange was going to look good to start with but he became a bit of a labour of love
misterboff - thank you, I like the sound of blood herald
colonel kane trine - thanks, I'm glad someone noticed the jugger The red started as Charadon Granite with a heavy Baal Red wash. I then thinned Scab Red and did a broad highlight that went out quite a way from the edges. this was then followed with Red Gore in a more traditional highlight, then Blood red as a final highlight on the corners etc.
Sgt John Keel - thank you very much. I think the golden daemon is a bit more yellow
Monsterzonk - thanks man. He could actually do with a bigger base his sword sticks out enough for another 60mm base!
Doi - steal away my man, glad to be of assistance.
dangermouse425 - what can I say but thank you very much. He is a combination of plastic bloodcrusher rider and the jugger from the warriors of chaos lord on jugger
    razormasticator - thanks mate

I've been painting a Berzerker that I will be using with a Defiler as a Slaughterfiend this month. It going well and so I'll finish it this week and move on to something else, maybe some noise marines.

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 6 (JAN completed work & FEB WIP)

    Comments and replies from me

@djc: I really like the use of Beastmen in your Guard force, great idea and very well executed. Your old school Bloodthirster is very welcome to see too.

@xazil: I really like the use of parts - very inventive!

@Colonel kane trine: Love the colour scheme, it really makes them look ancient. Your painting output is nothing short of phenomenal.

@Monsterzonk: Great kitbash - the face came out really well.

@Sgt John Keel: Nice alternative colour scheme for Astorath - I'm liking that a lot.

@Doi: Another great squad, I really like your Orks, the colour scheme is understated but executed well.

@give_me_a_d: Great Herald! The skin positively glows!

@Perplexiti - I really like your modular Rhinos - great idea and the army is coming together nicely.

    @dangermouse425 - They're looking good, solid work.

@Devilish - dude, bright colours! Very unusual colour scheme but it works well.

@Supermitch - Love the Battle Sisters, the colour scheme is nicely done.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments on the Pretorians and Elysians, I'm glad you all like them. Some specific replies below

@Punkfish - Nice IG. I especially like the Praetorian models, the way you've painted them to fit into the rest of the army is very nice. Even if not painting them red is heresy...
Heresy? These are enforcers of the Imperial law I'll have you know

@ punkfish: Very nice. I might have to steal that recipe for red cloth you use!
The red cloth is really easy - base coat of Mechrite Red, heavy wash of devlan mud, redo the Mechrite Red, then a coat of Blood Red before highlighting with Blazing Orange and a final highlight of Vomit Brown. I then tidy it up with a wash of Baal Red. Hope that helps.

@Punkfish: Lovely work on the Commissars. I think they work particularly well with the choice of basing to make a cohesive whole. It's also very nice to see a different, and well executed, colour scheme for the Praetorians. I think the miniatures lend themselves to a wide range of colours, but I must say I think yours fit better than the canonical.
Thanks dude - I took inspiration from the fact that whilst the Pretorians were inspired by 19th Century British Army uniforms, these uniforms were echoed by that of the British police of the same time period. This fitted nicely with my 'Security Company' theme and so with a bit of tweaking, that colour scheme was born.

@punkfish: Lots of lovely work this month. Both Commissars are great, and the red spot colour on the Praetorians ties them in to your Elysians nicely. The red epaulettes remind me of the old (early 90's) Lego Pirates!
Pirates! How dare you I'd forgotten about those but I can see what you mean.

Just checking in to say I'm not dead.

I need a bye for February as I've spent all month working on Dark Mechanicum. My January Complete is available in the previous thread.

Hi Whitehorn, I think you might have posted in the wrong thread (this is the 40k one), but glad to hear that you're not dead!

I had a 1500 point game against Dark Angels last night, and used my Runtbot as a Mega-Armoured Warboss ('Da Krusha'). I won the game, but he didn't fare too well. He was with a Nobz mob (including Painboy) in a Battle Wagon, and after disembarking they took on a pair of Tactical Squads. He lost a wound to shooting before he got into combat, and then took two wounds in assault. In a very un-Deathskull display of luck, I proceeded to roll snake eyes for his armour saves and then snake eyes for his Feel No Pain! On the plus side, my Deff Dread immobilised a Land Raider and then ripped its weapons off one by one, which was nice (for me).
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Hi Misterboff, I realise I'm on three jokers and this would make it four? Would I be ok to put some completed work in next month? Feb just round the corner. I've had an awful time with work (Our busiest period) I will try and smash out as much as possible, I have 2 storm ravens that can start eating some points up and hopfully start winning some jokers back.

    Is this ok?

    Cheers

A bit late, but my comments for the month.

punkfish: Very nice uniforms with matching bases. Love the detailing. The whole image is very imperial.

djc: Great conversions continue. Those minotaurs are very well painted, look the threatening part. The old school 'Thirster brings back good memories of that style.

colonel kane trine: Necrons continue to grow well. Again the scheme is superb and fitting.

f2k: Sorry to hear (and see).

Monsterzonk: Nice conversions and painting to make a great leader mini.

Sgt John Keel: Astorath as I've never seen him, and he makes all other versions pale in my mind.

Doi: The orkiness abounds. Well done orks with nice detailing.

Perplexiti: Nice old school looking Long Fangs. Great work on the matnetising. The gritty look suits the Space Wolves.

give_me_a_d: Great herald, very much looks the part on top of his jugger without descending into a red blob. Nice contrasting and colour choices.

dangermouse425: Its a nice start on the land raider, I agree with above in that you might be better embracing the battle damage than attempting to repair. Nice to see the dread found his bling again.

Devilish: Nice conversion, all the parts came together very well. I do like the colour scheme, and well painted.

SuperMitch: Nice sisters. I like the rock conversions, agree that they are much nicer than the metal stands. Well painted, nice colours.
