Weston whammy!

I’ve entered a 3000pt tournament at my LGS with my lizardmen and this thread will follow my progress.
This will be the first competitive games I have ever played of wfb, I would say im currently more interested in understanding the game more rather than winning and I think my list reflects this. I really like your list, and I'm really curious how it is going to work out for you. It looks absolutely stunning, I love the old models in your collection, and it looks like a very coherent army on the whole. Very curious to see how those Jungle Swarms work as redirectors, maybe you can emphasize on that after your first couple of battles? I still have to watch your warm up game against HE, so maybe you already do exactly what I ask for One thing I would change about your list, but that is really depending on how necessary you think it is, is giving the Slann the +1Ld banner, but maybe that's just overkill. Good luck in the tournament!

I can imagine that was a very boring HE list to play, and I daresay it's also not very good. Sooo many mages, he can't possibly have enough PD for all those spells, and it's pretty risky too! You mention that you expected to lose a unit a turn to shooting and another unit to magic, but remember that if he wants to cast those powerspells all the time, he risks getting his mages blown up pretty much every magic phase as well. A well deserved win, sir! Job well done!

Thanks for the kind comments about the army, ive always wanted to collect a lizardmen army from when then first came out. In the first game you can see how i used the jungle swarm as a redirect/speedbump. In the last turn it moves right up in the HE face, my opponent said i had exposed my flank, until i explained he would need to charge the front as it is the most models in the arc.* This would mean they would swing all the way around, win and overun or reform and waste a turn. If they didnt kill the swarm i would get poison attacks back (maybe on a mage) and i would get a charge on my turn in his flank -worth it for 45pts.
I think the +1ld banner is good but as you say a bit overkill.

He had done a rather good job against an orc player (who had to leave early), destroying units with shooting and magic. He was generating alot of dice, with his banner and 6 channeling a turn. This kinda fell down when he rolled very low on the second(?) turn.

Haha, I lolled at that. So much magic is so dangerous, items like the Hellheart or Cube of Darkness can really mess up your plans. Great use of the Jungle Swarm! I might give that a try too. Be sure to keep those reports coming!

Just watched your first videos - very promising (as a new Lizardmen player, it is particularly good). You really need to try and get clearer, brighter pictures - not only is it of general benefit to have better images, but it also shows off your clean painting.

Edit: The pacing of the report is still slow, too slow to keep me interested throughout. It also didn't help that you were essentially dead by turn 3 and there was almost no tactics other than "I did a bunch of stuff I shouldn't have done and then died." Thank you for putting the report up though (it takes a big man to put up a report of such a complete defeat).

What usually happens in your usual fights against ogres and your normal opponent? Obviously he doesn't take a gorger or so many firebellies. You say you usually win, which confuses me because I'm wondering how skinks could ever hope to match bulls in combat.

I think you realise this but:

You seemed to worried to much about what his unit was going to do. Its good to have forethought(best skill in the game), but don't over think it and let thoughts of his list run your list.

You just gave him to many options to charge. If you kept to the flanks(your range attacks) and kept the midfeild clear, you would have given his list nothing to do but move up or react to your list.


It was a great deployment of your side, I liked thinking behind it. But then theres no way you should have moved towards him with anything besides your ranged attack.

I think your right that forgetting that your salamanders shooting special rules lost you the game(which is a good lesson learnt), because you had a real chance after deployment create a massive amount of threat with them.

You could have stacked your chammies and salamanders hard on the other side of your slann and just on the punished one of his rank and file units and hopefully split his line up.

Oh well, crap happens. Lessons learnt etc, etc. Nice to see some fearless battle reporting.

My tactics... were that i completely outdeployed him, if it had been a full game i could have sat back and got 200VP and waited for game to end, i needed a fast win though forcing me to close. I was trying all game to get dwellers on his maneaters so to hopefully kill a character and net me game difference, there was a key turn where i should have used flesh to stone and regrowth on the skinks but i gambled for dwellers instead.
I think playing a short game rushed my thinking not a problem in my friendlies.

Ah yes, I recall now that you mentioned the game was rushed, makes sense.

I think you should label the deployment with text on the screen or perhaps go over it very quickly (30 seconds or less, TALK FAST!). This gives you a little bit of time to talk about your thoughts about why you deployed the way you did, then start with the battle.

The skaven player forfeit his battle against me, meaning i am now out of my group and into the quater finals! I have been drawn against a dark elf player...

Nice battle report. Again nice deployment and forethought. Nice work on the balestone. I thought that was great.

I'm surpised at the guys deployment. He had some awesome match ups, not sure why he didn't set up better for GG unit or ghouls onto your rank and file and knight/bats setting up some kind of chain charge onto your support. He must have known your sallies could punish his ranked units with bale stone there.

Oh well, its easy for me to be an armchair general.
