    Renegades of Graal - Necromunda plog

    Several months ago a friend of mine started scratch building some Necromunda scenery - something he'd always wanted to do having playing Necromunda a lot when he was younger. Now he is at the stage were we have enough to play a game with a fully painted board and it looks really good. So it was pretty inevitable that I was going to end up getting myself a gang!

    I opted for one of the standard house gangs to keep things simple. But I wanted to do something a little different fluff wise. So I decided that my gang was actually going to be a cult - and based on my track record with Chaos armies in the past, of course it would have to be a Slaaneshi themed cult. I've yet to work out the specifics, but the general idea is that the gang worship an entity they know as "Graal" (who unbeknown to them is actually Slaanesh) and believe that he will grant them power beyond their wildest dreams - and since they started their worship they have had some pretty wild dreams!

    Wanting to go with the whole masked clansmen idea - but wary of getting too close to certain infamous groups in our history - I chose the Forgeworld range of Renegade imperial guardsmen. Hence the gang name!


    So without any further delay, here are the first set of models I have assembled...


    The Gang Leader:

    Very little conversion was needed here as I liked the model so much - this model was the main reason I opted for this particular range of conversion kits in the first place! Currently he is holding a Plasma Pistol, which technically he cannot take at the start. I'm hoping to be able to purchase one after the first couple of games - in the meantime he is actually armed with an Autopistol.

    The Heavies:

    These were the most fiddly conversions of the whole gang. Lining up the arms and weapon shafts was a minor nightmare - and still requires some greenstuff to cover up the nasty joins. The weapons themselves were Ork Shoota's, while the arms were originally a Cadian flamer arm.

    The Gangers:


    Pretty straight forward. I'd originally planned to have 2 Lasgun wielding gangers for the reliability on the ammo rolls. However one of the models came with Autogun so I figured why not!

    And finally, the crazy ganger (every gang has a crazy member!) and a Juve:

    When I saw that one of the models was in a perfect pose for a two handed weapon I couldn't resist! I had planned on having 2 gang members set up for combat (3 when counting the leader), so a massive axe just felt right for a chaos worshipping cult hell-bend on power!

    I still have plenty of parts to make up another 5-6 models either as the gang grows or as equipment changes drastically from what the models currently show. I also have an abundance of spare weapons for further conversion work. But I wanted to get a few games under my belt first to see what Graal has in store for this lot!

    The next step is to decide how these will be based - you may have noticed everything is currently blue-tac'd onto the bases! I want to make sure I stick to a dark grey theme as this will match well with my friends scenery. But I think it is worth putting in some extra effort with these models, so I will be experimenting with some water effects and static grass.

    We're planning on using Yakromunda to track our campaign progress. The first campaign is set up, along with 4 gangs (my friend who owns the scenery playing as 2 of them). Here is a link to the publicly available campaign events page...

    If you play Necromunda and haven't yet seen the site give it a try. It certainly seems to be a very useful resource.

    Just to quickly say that I've been updating my online galleries today. I've tried to fix all the links from the various warseer threads, but if you spot any images missing from this plog them please let me know.

    So the Renegades of Graal took to the battlefields for the first time tonight. We played 2 games. I lost the first and took 3 injuries (gang leader -1T, ganger = old battle wound, juve = shell shock). Then in the second game, although I won, 3 of the 4 gangers that went down rolled a "Permanently Dead" result for their injuries - and one of those was a heavy!

    So Lasaar the Splendid has now set out to slaughter his current gang members and go recruiting a fresh bunch of mentally unhinged scum!

    It was a good couple of games though.

    So I've deliberately held off progressing with this gang for a little while now as I knew I wanted to give them some custom bases. It took me a while to find something I liked, at a decent price, but I eventually came across this site: http://www.champindustries.net/bases.html


    So I put in an order for 20 - as theoretically I have enough parts to make up 20 gangers for the Renegades of Graal, and they arrived yesterday. Here are a sample of 9, and the same 9 with models temporarily attached with blue-tac.



    Looking forward to getting these guys on the painting board.

    Really nice idea for a gang friend of mine had the same idea but with mutants and such. Now just uses the traditional cawdor minis, which tbh also works Not much to add to your gang except that the 2nd shotgunner has no manstopper rounds have you updated the yakromunda link though? I cant see deaths but you still seem to have both of your heavies your leader still has T3 and you still have all your gangers, just saying

    I see you guys got 4 gangs running around, do you always play teamgames or just 1 on 1? Nice to see each gang is pretty different as well btw! Loving the Orlock gang, really nasty at range!
    Same goes for the van Saar gang btw. He seems to favour a 50/50 ranged/close combat ratio though... Any reason for that? Our group seems to have a pretty lack of combat happening...
    The ratskin gang has some very iconic names does he lack totem warriors or are you unable to denote you members as such in Yakromunda? They seem to be missing, yet he has some "heavies" geared fomr combat but I cant say if they are the totem warriors...

    The Yakromunda link is the same. However due to the heavy losses from their last game, the Renegades of Graal retired. They were replaced by The Renegades of Graal - The Revenge! I decided that was the better route to take as it was pretty early in the campaign and I was down 3 gang members and a heavy stubber. The new gang up there is a new roster as we haven't played a game with them as yet.

    We intend to keep it 1 on 1. Both the Orlock and Ratskin gangs belong to the same person. Not quite sure how we'll manage fights between them - or if it will never happen, but he has enough models for both

    No idea. To be honest we all played Necromunda back when we were kids, but I wouldn't say any of us were veterans at the game - with the possible exception of the guy with 2 gangs!

    Yes they are Totem Warriors. Not sure how Yakromunda handles/denotes them.

    So I played a couple of games this week. It was a bit of a mixed bag. The first game saw a couple of advances, and a couple of injuries across the gang - overall nothing to write home about. The second game however saw a lucky lasgun shot hit, wound and indeed permanently kill the enemy gang leader! However one of my own heavies was also permanently lost, so it seems the Renegades of Graal are unable to get past their 2nd game without losing a heavy! At least I managed to inflict a pretty decent blow to the enemy in the process.

    During the post game sequence though, I rolled a 6 from one of the gangs 2 (yes two!) settlements and recruited a new juve for free. I needed to assemble a new model, so figured it made sense to assemble a juve with a sword (who was already in the gang) and use an existing model to represent the new recruit.

    Anyway, here is the new model:


    I'm still painting up some other stuff at the moment, but please do subscribe to the thread if you want to see these painted as I will be sure to post an update here as soon as I make any progress.

    Everything is up to date, remember that as we have 4 gangs - and 1 of them has already retired/restarted - the gangs have only played a couple of games each! Not really sure what you expect

    I know I know... I just... Was expecting people to "level up" faster I guess... Some of our games made our juves reach ganger status almost completly
