Emporium of the Quaint & Curious

    Hello,

I have been regularly using the Warseer Project Logs since Autumn 2010 when I got back into the hobby after a long break. Well, that's not strictly true, prior to that I had been dipping in and out of model painting for about 20 years but it has only been for the last year and a half that I have been painting on a regular basis. I got into the hobby in the 80's via Role Playing games, mainly Dragon Warriors and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and also board games such as Talisman. Although several copies of Warhammer Fantasy Battle 2nd edition were floating around in our teenage gaming group I only ever played it twice, and we pretty much made up our own rules.

I got back into the hobby painting miniatures to represent characters in the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1st edition campaign "The Enemy Within", but with me spending time on here with the majority of folks playing 40k or Warhammer, it didn't take long before I decided to paint up my AoBR Orks so I could get playing too. Since then I have painted a few Marines and recently I progressed onto building my own terrain which I had never attempted before.

So, onto the point of this log! I currently have four projects on the go, so as well as keeping a record of all my current projects in one place, this log shall also cover other projects not covered by my existing logs.

To start off here are some pics from my existing logs so you get an idea of where I am at and the sort of thing you can expect to see in the future:

First off some of my efforts from my Infrequently updated Mutant army project

    The Flailing Friar

    Brutagh

    A Swinotaur/Minoboar conversion

    Fritz Carhingar

    Jonas Whitespore

Converted Spawn with generic Mutant Brat

Yet to be completed Beast of Nurgle conversion (Slime Eater)

And also my latest piece of home made terrain, ANOTHER WALL

That's where I am up to painting wise.

Last week I made a start on an Ork Warbike

Mostly stuck together with blue tac at the moment as I want to spend a bit of time on the banner. Not sure what the design is going to be but in the past I have done the Mona Lisa and early on in my WFRP project I did a copy of a Durer self portrait:

I have a feeling this may turn out a bit Motorhead though.

My painting has somewhat slowed down of late. This is mainly due to me discovering EBAY!!!!!!

    Much painting to be done.

It all started off when I was looking for a few 80's Citadel C15 Orcs:

I'm one missing. Pesky number 16

Then I thought "I quite fancy some goblins....."

Re: Emporium of the Quaint & Curious

And then I thought it was about time I branched out a little and shopped around for some Goblins made by other manufacturers other than Citadel...

Some rather snazzy Goblins from Heresy:

Incredibly delicate and fantastic minis from Red Box:

Yes, I know the large one is from Avatars of War, just thought they would make a nice Warband.

And I managed to get these Kev Adams Goblins produced by Rhoninstorm:

    Brilliant!

    Here are some more Orcs:

And here is a size comparison shot for those of you who maybe interested in that sort of thing:

Top row left to right: Red Box, Avatars of War, Heresy
Bottom row left to right: Citadel C15 Orc, Citadel C12 Goblin, Kev Adams Rhoninstorm

As I was searching though Ebay I came across a few miniatures made in the late 80's for The Enemy Within Campaign. So, naturally......

The top one is actually from the Death on the Reik personalities set.

A few missing but I'll get there one day.

Anyway, so there I was getting lost in the nostalgis of it all when I came across a few Citadel 1987 Lord of the Rings miniatures too

Here is the link to the sole legends page http://www.solegends.com/citlotr/indexblist.htm

Here is what I have so far:

    Bored yet? Still with me?

Last two pictures for this evening:

Heroic Fighters of the Known World

I have the other four in the box, but these are the one I was after

    And finally!

    I LOVE these miniatures.

I have managed to acquire many more 80's minis but I shall spare you the tedium

Next up will most probably be something more current and Orkish (I'm currently getting rid of mould lines on 20 plastic Boyz)

    Thanks for looking.

    Have a great week folks!

Korinth: Thank you very much. I had seen a pretty amazing Minotaur with hooves conversion and was inspired by that (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...us-horde-(WIP)) I thought I would add the boar head as I reckon they have more expressive faces than the originals.

I really like the death Skull Orks - kudos.

The aged/rusting effect on the SM force does not quite work for me, even though it is very nicely done; it just doesn't translate to that army to my mind. Nonetheless great stuff and thanks for sharing.

I'm very pleased to see all your projects in one log. going to make it easier to follow them all =)

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the classic minis. They are so characterful and should would really well put together in a small force.

That's interesting, obviously a matter of personal taste. The Dreadnought is my favorite piece in this log, love the color scheme. I also like the Powersword painting.

You have a unique style, it's very impressive.
    The Dürer portrait is gorgeous.
My favourite has to be the Beast of Nurgle, though.
The weathering on the Dreadnought is especially fantastic, too.

Re: Emporium of the Quaint & Curious

Thanks for all the feedback folks!

Apologies for the delay in getting back but I wanted to wait until I had something to show. So, replies...

juicytomatoes: Thank you very much. As it happens.........

leonmallett: Glad you like the Orks. I see where you are coming from with the Marines. I'm not a SM player and I REALLY don't like painting things clean, so weathering them to death was the only option

Tzarinchilla: Cheers. I almost started on the antique Orcs this weekend, but was soon put off by all the mouldlines that needed trimming off (does anybody actually enjoy doing that?). I'll get to them soon enough. Managed to acquire a few more since I put those pics up.

mrtn: Hey, I wish I was a as rich as me too. Nah, not rich, just thinner . I love those old LotR minis. I had a few back in the 80's but gave them away along with all my other GW stuff before I went to University. I didn't have any room for any of it. There was loads! What a putz! Cheers

korinth: Glad you like the Dreadnought. I was quite proud of that. Other than terrain that is my biggest paint job to date. My one and only Powersword so far. I used the tutorial in the SpaceHulk White Dwarf.

HereBeDragons: Thank you! Random is king

EmperorNorten: Cheers. Much appreciated. That Beast of Nurgle has been sat there waiting to be finished for months. I think all I've managed to do in the last six is add some slime to it. I was thinking of adding a collapsed wall behind it as it seems to be missing something. Maybe it is in need of a reference for scale? I had thought about putting a leaping rat in there somewhere. Hmmmmm. Glad you like it though.

    An update.

    More Orks:

    And all five:

The skin is a bit greener than I intended. I plan on toning it down a bit with the next bunch. The other 15 Lads with Shootas are ready for painting on my desk. I rummaged through my extra AoBR Orks and some Fantasy Orcs and managed to give each one of these chaps a unique head. This involved modifying the AoBR Boys heads slightly. Nothing taxing.

Should have five more to show in a week or so.

    Thanks for looking.

    Have a great week folks!

A nice painting style you have, with an interesting choice in colours.

I like the mutant gang, the friar especially. What a great show of skill on that one.

Seen that terrain before somewhere . Loved it the first time and still do. A witty style and an eye for detail.

I sense an epic log has begun here with all the old stuff, let's see that collection grow. I see some of the goblins regularly on eBay, so how hard is this collecting?
Not that I will start myself, I have trouble keeping up with contemporary small companies.
