Even if their increase was larger than that of everybody else, they're still the slowest. Just because they're not as far behind as they used to, doesn't mean they're not still the slowpokes of the game (along with tomb king infantry). Their marches are still only 6".

I'd definitely give Ironbreakers a few improvements. In 4th Edition they used to be such a great unit, and now in 8th they seem to really just 'lack' something.
I'd give them 2 attacks. Magic Attacks with -1 AS, and an increase in ward save to 5+ in combat.
That's probably a bit much. I would love a second attack on either IBs or Hammerers. IBs couldn't get all of that, though. They would be crazy expensive.
Too powerful on Hammerers. I just thought that Dwarves need a unit that can cop a charge from anything (heavy cav, monsterous infantry/cav, monsters, super elites & be able to grind them down or at least stand toe to toe with them .After all they are built to take on trolls, skaven monsters, monsters & hordes of troops. They should have magic weapons as these are the best equipped dwarves that are not Thanes or Royal! Perhaps flaming attacks instead of -1AS. Represent axes used to help kill trolls & other regenerating beasts, whilst magic weapons help deal with etheral thtrats in the underway.

Short summary: The next FW book is the battle for blackfire pass III. It will feature Empire, Orcs & Goblins and Dwarves.

Why would that be to powerful? If there is a unit that should be able to go up against chaos warriors it should be hammerers according to the background.
However, if they stay at 1 attack or not, they should get gromril armour too.
Keep in mind that Warhammer is HEROIC 28mm, that is 30mm.
But then again, Kylie Minogue and Shakira are said to be the same scale as NBA players
Hammerers could gain an attack and a point increase and still be fine, especially as compared with several other elite units - Swordmasters of Hoeth, for example.
Yeah swordmaster would still do a number on them. Still hitting on 3+ with reroll, wounding on 3+, no save...
But since they are stubborn they should fight to the last man, ahem dwarf...

Ironbreakers should Reamain the olnly dwarf unit with Gromril Armour, Ive always seen hammerers as The elite Great weapon weilding warriors of the dwarfs. As ive said before i think they should gain a buckler type shield,Making them the only (to my recollection) great weapon wielding troops who can benefit from a shield in close combat. maybe strapped to there Shoulder, that allows them to gain the +1 save while using a great weapon. Only that it can only be used in Close Combat. There T4 should protect them against most Missile fire anyway. Or if not that Some sort of parry save of 6+ in close combat, as if they are equipped with HW+S. Either of these, IMO will reflect their elite status among the dwarf warrior fraternity without making them too OP for there points cost, which will prolly change anyway
If I could do a quick and dirty amendment to Hammerers and Ironbreakers, it'd be;
Hammerers: As current, with Warrior Elite special rule (reroll misses in close combat), 14 points. No reason why Black Guard should be the only Warrior Elite in Warhammer, and I don't see why special rules can't be used across multiple armies where appropriate. I think a WS5, S6 reroll is worth 2 pts.
Ironbreakers: As current, with ItP and Rune Weapons (+1S, magical attacks just like Chaos Knights), 14pts. Ironbreakers face the darkest horrors of the Underworld, so should be used to a bit of Fear and Terror. They already have access to the best armour, they can now have access to the best handweapons to give them the punch they so sorely lack. They only go up 1pt as I believe they're overcosted by 1 pt at present.
Both units can have up to 25pts of runes on their champions.
On multiple attacks, I don't think this is 'Dwarven'. High strenth, high accuracy is the Dwarven way. Lots of attacks implies a speed that I don't believe Dwarves should have.

lots of attacks isnt about speed. Saurus have two attacks.

You could just as easily call a shield bash a second attack for Ironbreakers. *shrug*
But then nearly everyone gets a shield bash, it's a fairly basic skill for hand-to-hand fighters.
Anyway, wouldn't you rather have the +1S and magical attacks I outlined earlier...... I think that's more Dwarven than an additional attack.
I'd love to see gromril weapons and shields. If runed, they lose their bonuses. Heroes get them standard, as do ironbreakers.
Gromril Weapons: armor piercing
Gromril Shields: +1 armor save
Ironbreakers thus get a slight offensive boost and get a 2+ armor save.
Combine that with skirmishing slayers and working flame cannons, that alone would make me happy

The +1S and magical attacks would be fabulous. It is, however, currently a 20pt rune. Not that I'd argue with that as an option - I'd take em in a heartbeat.
On Slayers. How would people feel if they counted as a horde when only 5 or 6 models in width But keeping say a 36 model unit limit. Would make them a lot more devastiting in combat. Theyd still have trouble with missile troops mind but. Would make a lot of people think a bit before engaging a unit of them with a cheap chaf unit. I mean i remember the old little comical pieces of art from the 5th edition books of slayers flinging themselves into combat over the heads of the slayers in front.
Give them frenzy that they can't lose?

Quick correction to my last post wouldnt need to count them as a hoard just give them the fights in extra ranks rule instead, Which would in turn make a horde of them even scarirer if they lose a unit limit
Regarding Slayers, they have a mechanic to give them the ability to fight monsters, and one to show their death wish (Unbreakable). How about showing their determination to fight to the bitter end, regardless of wounds, by making them T5? (with appropriate point increase).
They become harder to kill, but they're still barechested with nothing between them and the enemy except scar tissue and a thin coat of pig grease.
