Great work mate, love it so far. The armoured cars look fun, as do the Dark Eldar knives.
Good on you for not ruining it by adding unrelated tyranid parts and calling it a day! I likes me genestealers actually fitting the fluff.

There almost wasn't going to be much progress to report, and then I sat down to potter away at some more Purestrains, and this happened:
Patriarch!
Probably my joint-favourite model GW have ever made. Where did he get all those skulls from? And what happened to all the jawbones?
And on a less exciting note, a pile of part built Brood Brothers:

Their jawbones clearly fell off after seeing the wonderful paintjob. Good work, Sir (or Madam)! The Genestealer Cult army always struck me as a great example of 40k weirdness, and there needs to be more armies of it out there.
always nice to see a cult army i'll be wathing this thread![]()
Boring update. Sorry.
Progress on cultists has slowed while I finish my Ad mech army off for a tournament in April.

Mind if I ask what the color scheme is? I've been trying to get my stealers to look like that for years, but I could never really pin the paint colors down.
1222. It's a stranglehold. Not an Ogryn neck pinch.
1395. Eldar really hate it when you greet them with "Live long and prosper".
1537. My Rogue Trader does not need to announce his arrival with eight hours of orbital bombardment.
1572. The Navigator has Warp Sight. Not Insane-o-Vision.
1594. Flak armor is not just a muscle shirt with the word "ARMOR" stenciled on it.
Sure.
Over Chaos Black undercoat, for the chitin:
Heavy drybrush with Necron Abyss, drybrush with Regal Blue, heavy wash with Badab Black, drybrush to taste with Regal Blue again.
For the flesh:
Drybrush with Hormagaunt Purple, wash with Leviathan Purple, highlight with Liche Purple mixed with a little Skull White.

Must comment here to keep up my comment-on-OOP-stuff cred.
Looks great!
Thanks! I'll have to pick up some of the colors I'm missing tomorrow and see how it turns out!

Back again!
Icon Bearer is done:
Why does he have purple skin when all of the other hybrids have a pale tone? Uh uh *shrug* Genestealer made me do it.
I've also (finally) made a start on the hybrid heavy weapon teams:
Yes, that's a Conversion Beamer
And here's a not very interesting picture of some more Purestrains freshly smothered in Badab Black:
The three Space Hulk Purestrains are destined to become counts-as Tyrant Guard for the Patriarch.

Conversion beamer from the 1990 chaos/genestealer heavy weapon sprue!?! I LOVE THAT SPRUE!
Your hybrids warm the cockles of my heart, it makes me want to start that beast-guard army i had planned....
What are you using for the cultisit bodies?(model-wise if im being unlcear)
They're Fantasy Empire Flagellants.
I've now got an impressive number of clubs/chains/flails/beards left over...

Moar Cultists!
Given that GW now does fourty-seven different shades of purple, or whatever it is in the new paint range, these guys might get some slightly different robes...
Plus the heavy weapon teams are finally ready to recieve some paint
And some more Purestrains:
Although, to be honest, I could keep on posting pictures of the same few models, and it would be hard to tell the difference...

Great stuff Lord-D, I especially like the Hybrids. I have a handful of the old plastic 'Brids on my windowsill, they glare at me whenever I have a look on this thread
Just a thought, quite a few religious organisations tend to mark out different "ranks" of their officers and practitioners.Given that GW now does fourty-seven different shades of purple, or whatever it is in the new paint range, these guys might get some slightly different robes...
So.... You could use different colours to mark out different squads or squad types, to give you (and opponents) an easier time working out what's what on the table AND to make it less of a headache trying to match colours. You've started doing it already with the Magi, so it wouldn't look too out of place to perhaps extend into blues and reds?

Brimstone. Gone but not forgotten.
Looksie what I found! The original tiny-tiny Patriarch model (destined to become a counts-as Broodlord for the Purestrains):
Just as well he has a hypnotic gaze, because with a face like that he's not going to be attracting many admirers.
Not bad idea at all. There's a very dark purple base, and a light lilac drybrush in amongst the new colours. Plus, I discovered a pot of Blue Ink from ye olden days at the back of my paint drawer...

Wow amazing work and great painting! This is coming from a former Genestealer cult owner myself, Back in 2nd edition days I had a Nurgle Genestealer/Chaos cult.
So props to you my friend for keeping up something that has slipped by the way side.
Now all we need is for someone to do a log of Commissar Training Squads. LOL

Note that you have an official color to compare to, Genestealer purple.
Still, I tried your suggested color scheme, and decided to pick up a few extra pots of Regal Blue and Necron Abyss before they get mergedThanks!
Also: That Patriarch blew my mind. Keep it coming.

Lord Damocles: These are decidedly excellent. Love 'em, concept and execution both.
I'd note that you've missed a trick however. Title-wise you should've went with Shadow Over Ipswitch.![]()
