Thread: Judging the New sourcebooks

    Re: Judging the New sourcebooks

LOVE the new changes. Makes the game much more dynamic and interesting instead of just footslogging into enemy arrows. Each player now has more tactical options with the increase of might to each side, also allowing much more epic hero clashes instead of warrior armies. Games also play much quicker with the fewer models, but remain as challenging to win.

My only issue is Elves got a major smackdown. I think they should be allowed 16 models/warband to represent the rarity and skill of their heroes. This would allow them to get the higher numbers they desperately need. As of now, my 5+ fate Moria horde just runs through them due to sheer numbers. Can't ever get tired of killing Elves though!

By the way, hello! I'm new on the forum. Expect to see me around a bit!

    Welcome to the forum!

Interesting what you say about the elves. They've done well lately in our games, but only by taking inexpensive heroes (Haldir, Rumil, Elladanrohir), perhaps to keep their numbers up (they weren't my lists). Or you could hope to roll Lords of Battle, which positively punishes large trashy armies in favor of elite ones.

The problem is none of their heroes are REALLY cheap. Haldir and friends are all 70 pts or higher and combined with the higher points of standard elves, leads to much smaller armies. My friend plays Wood Elves, and was rocking 60 elves and Legolas at 600 pts in Legions. Now he's got 39ish. 39 D3 models has a hard time standing up to 55ish goblins, especially with 5+ fate!

True about Lords of Battle. I've played this scenario quite a few times, but each time I've been able to win. He simply can't kill me as fast as I do considering my throwing weapons + higher numbers (more dice per fight) I have.

My guess is Stormcaller spamming is what is needed now. He's the cheapest hero, and Nature's Wrath is absolutely deadly is used repeatedly. This allows the elves to wrack up kills in relative safety over many turns. This also wrecks cavalry armies, ouch!

I suppose i feel mixed with this new vibe. I for one used to enjoy large armies with the SBG ruleset, especially when an hero like Boromir faced insane odds; it looked really cinematic on the table. Time wasn't an issue for me so that might be why (i can leave stuff on my gaming table and continue later on).

Was anything changed to easterlings btw?.

BloodBowl: Dark Elf, Vampires, Necromantics, Norse
    LotR: Easterlings, Mordor, Rohan
