Magotīs 231st Regiment Death Korps of Krieg

    Hello Dear Warseerers,

After more than 10 years playing Fantasy I wanted to start with a 40K army.
Just to move away a little bit from the massive 3000 pts armyīs with Big Monsters and a lot of Wizards, sorcerers etc. to play a different type of game with the opportunity to build an entire new force.

8 years ago I already bought a Steel Legions HQ (for the looks) and painted it with the intention to start a IG army.
It never happened. Although I played a few 40K battles with a borrowed army.

The Forge World Death Korps of Krieg models speak to me incredible. Beautifully detailed and designed they allow me to put together a really stunning army.

Browsing through the Plogs on this forum I found the plogs of “doubleT” and “Ash” both superb artists with beautiful DkoK armies which inspired me greatly. Both have such high quality painted DKoK armies that I want to start to build my own 231st Regiment Death Korps of Krieg.

Through Ebay I could buy some models I've used as a test for my colour scheme.

Since I did not want to have grey uniforms, I was browsing through the Imperial Armour V5 and I found the colour schemes of the 261st Regiment.
This colour combination is also more or less used by Mark Bedford in his model diorama in the Imperial Armour Model Master class book.
Based on these examples, I have painted a test model of a Heavy Weapons squad with a Lascannon. And a Lemanrus. In this way I could test the uniforms and the weaponry and tanks in one go.

Iīm intend to use the green for all the metal Works in the army combined with the Brown colors for fabrics and leathers.
Iīm also thinking to steel doubleTīs idea to use wood on the hand weapons. (not painted yet)

The Basing will be not muddy. I like to place my models in-between the massive thunderstorms of Krieg. Allowing the flood of water to run away fast through the volcanic ground and ditches.
The dust and dirt does have the sulphur yellowish colour. (not showing that nice in the photoīs)
The volcanic rocks are almost black.
I did found this picture and used it as my inspiration.

There are some more than obvious reasons that the progress of putting this army together will follow a slow schedule.
    - cost of the FW models
    - time
I certainly will not be a plog with weekly updates, but it will come and go with the flow (money and time).
I kindly ask you to have some patience with me and hopefully you are willing to respond and react with comments and or suggestions which are always more than welcome.

This is my first test model, the Heavy Weapon Squad with a Lascannon.

Iīm quit happy with it, but as always, Iīm open for suggestions and comments.

Oeps, photoīs are confronting! I now notice the mould lines on both guys left arms, missed them completely with cleaning up the models and painting.

    please Note:
there is not a final weathering applied yet, I will do that after the final decision for the color scheme.

This Lemanrus I bought for a nice price on ebay.
Not spendig too much money on it I felt free to experiment with it.
I have looked on the plog of Ash, a very inspriring plog with tons of ideaīs and inspiration
I also have looked into the Imperial Armour Master Class Volume one (hopefully there will be a volume 2...)

    so here are the pictures

and a few more of my first painted and weathered Tank Model ever.

and another one from the Weapon Squad.

    ,

Iīm not 100% sure of the base colour.
I used 2x a Bubonic Brown dry brush over a base coat of scorched brown,
but for some reason it doesnīt give me the right feeling...............

Finally for today a last question for you experts.
I found it hard to free hand paint the regimental numbers on the shoulder pads.
I managed to do it with al lot of patience, but I was wondering does anybody knows if there are stencils this small so that I can use the airbrush for this painful task?
Or pherhaps the use of decals is an option?

It might be tough, but those hand painted numbers look great.
    Exceptional weathering on the tank.
I thought the wheels on the heavy weapon team could use more dust, more dirt, as well as horizontal surfaces on the tanks where sulpher yellowish dirt would fall off the tracks.
But doing anything more to the tank might wreck it.
    Future builds.
The rust, the tread plate, the empty targeter, the tank looks like a seasoned survivor.
I look forward to more when you can.
To master any skill you must accept doing it poorly at first.

. Yes you are right, the lascannon is still WIP, the weathering needs to be done. and yes Iīm a little afraid to do more on the tank but maybe Iīll give it a further try. I need to build up the weathering powders on the tracks in more stages instead of trying to do it one go.
    Future builds.

    Cool ! exactly my intention.
I look forward to more when you can Iīm planning an order for FW this month..............

Thank you for the compliment Lextheimpaler.
I do hope to place the FW order this month so I can give it a real start

Re: Magotīs 231st Regiment Death Korps of Krieg

    Hi there dear Warseerers,

I do have a question, I like to provide my platoons watch master with a las pistol and a bolt pistol (the las pistol is standard for them and the bolt pistol is an option)
since i donīt want them too much in close combat, I provide them with as much fire power as possible.
BUT..... I canīt find a Bolt Pistol anywhere on the FW site. perhaps I preformed a bad search I donīt know but I couldn’t find them.
anyone with a solution / idea.

Oh and yes, I also thinking of providing plasma pistols to them but in the command upgrade there are only 2 of them, a little expensive to provide all my watch masters with those.
maybe there are some left over’s somewhere ??? small change I know, but never asked is never known.
And..... las pistols are also welcome.

thank you for watching this thread and your possible reply.

    Hi there,
it has been for a while, but today an update.
My first squad of infantry is finished, and to be honest whith you, Iīam happy with them, but please feel free to comment them.

the antenna of the Vox is a 0.2mm steel wire I was able to lay my hands on.

I am thinking of using the FW decals for the shoulder pad numbers
(one kneeling guardsman does have it already, but I do need the stuff to fix
them properly and make the decal flexible enough to achieve the correct shape of
    the shoulder pad)

stupid enough there is no 231st...................

    Thanks Student,

    Progress:
Next paint job will be a unit of Grenadiers.
This will be a combat unit with flamer, flamer, heavy flamer, plasma pistol.

I am thinking of adding a demolition charge --> anybody with comments on this one?
I do like the S8 AP2, but the 6" range and the scatter of the large blast worries me.
When I was in the army they not allowed me to throw hand
grenades, and that was with a good reason!! (this is the honest truth!)

    Demolition charges.....Go for it!

I like the color scheme a lot and the sulfuric desert inspiration really comes out in this. The Green adds a special touch, as if it's copper oxide or something, which would help bring out a rusty color.

As for the demo charges, I'm sure if you're careful with them you needn't worry about the large blast.

Itīs bin a few dayīs guys,
in the mean time I assembled a new infantery squad (advancing)

the paintjob is 1/2 way, Iīll show them if they are finished

In the mean time I also bought a DR Commissar.......... (ebay is your friend)
and I thought he needs a decent base, little bit more detailed than the foot loggers...

Well thatīs it for the moment, thanks for checking my plog and as usual C&C are welcome

Re: Magotīs 231st Regiment Death Korps of Krieg

    Hi guys Iīm back.
I was rather buisy last weeks with work and private life.
I could only spend a few hours per week painting.
But.... the good news is that my 2nd squad (the advancing) is finished.

About the bases I am not sure. I kept them lighter than the ones of the first squad to be more
representative for the sulfer surface of Krieg, but I am not sure.
I did not used the weather powders yet, like I did with the 40mm round base for my
commissar. I think I should do that. what do you think?

I donīt like the rifles bending back after a while, I use hot water to put them in shape, cool them of with cold water. They look good then, but after a few dayīs they are getting back their old shape. enoying

Thank you for watching, comments & critics are welcome

You can always track down some regular IG Bolt Pistols, just look for the smaller ones rather than those from Marine kits. My IG log has a few examples as I have removed Plasma pistols for them on a couple of models.

Anyone who has picked up an IG Veteran kit from FW will have a Plasmapistol (in fact I think I have a spare or two somewhere)

If you can track down some micro-sol and micro-set, you apply that onto your transfer and it will 'melt' the transfer to conform with the curved shape below. You can always cut up some transfers to make 231.

You can always decide not to field them after adding them to your units (just make certain you apply that to the entire army and inform your opponent prior to the battle). I find Democharges go on units that can DS or Scout and can get close...usually in regular squads either I am destroyed by artillery or charged by assault troops before I get to throw them.

    Hope that helps,

thanks for reading this plog and your support.
I found some nice IG bolters on Ebay.....

I was able to get the Micro-sol and Micro-set, thatīs working perfect. However I never had thought to cut out the numbers and make the 231, Iīll give it a try for sure .
