    Mantic Elite

Not sure I'd want to sign up for the 8th race without knowing what it was and seeing the sculpts.

Yeah, I normally defend Mantic's pre-orders, but this is stretching matters a little too far, heh. Still, the models will be unveiled next week, so it's no big deal.

Glad to hear that they've had so many Corporation orders already that they're now expecting serious stock shortages.

The pricing looks good though...quick calculations indicate major savings assuming the 8th race items are the same price as corporation and Pandora costs the same as a box of DKH.

The blurb says you save "over £20" and I can't imagine it's much over £20 else they'd be pushing the stated figure higher. If you want all three then £20 is still £20, like getting PP for less than half-price. On the other hand, as I've touched on in my first post, you'd need to be a real Mantic bunny to buy the 8th race sight unseen.

    £100 - 2 army boxes.
    £13.50 - 2 heros
    £35 - Project Pandora

So £23.50 savings, I'd assume. Works out to 19% off + free shipping (within the UK). Not bad.

I might be keen for this, certainly a good deal to be had. Going to have to see something of the 8th race first, though.

It's better in my currency (USD). Savings of $74 (~48 pounds), but I have to pay the expensive shipping I guess...

I thought shipping was free on orders over 25 pounds? And anyway Thalandor, mantics stock shipping rate to the us is around 4.25 usd.

    Re: Mantic Elite

The shipping would be free, wouldn't it? I was under the impression that international shipping was free as long as you ordered in USD instead of GBP.

    Re: Mantic Elite

It says at the bottom of the page that they cannot do free shipping on this deal.

It sounds good to me. I'm just the sort of daft person to go and pre-order before seeing it having told myself I was not buying anything new until my painting projects were done and then starting on Warpath later in the year...

EDIT: I was right, someone has been a bit daft around here...

    Re: Mantic Elite

I assume as it would be three parcels over the individual release dates, it is not going to come in one bundle months after the initial release. I also question the possibility of the models/game selling out, all of the Corp stuff is readily available to pre-order and it took a good while for the first print of Dwarf Kings Hold to sell out. As others have said it is also asking a bit much to order a whole new army with no idea of how it will look. It really is stretching the idea of pre-releases for me and does make me worry a bit about the finances at Mantic.

I like the idea in concept, but I really need to see the 8th race before committing. It doesn't seem horrible, but I'm not going to put down money on a "mystery package"

    Luckily, they'll have details soon.

Its pretty baffling - its unique I'll give it that, and I think Reaper or someone along those lines did a subscription model service years back but... yeah, its a bit too odd for me. I mean, why not just order them as they each come out? Read reviews, see the pictures, find out what your actually going to get in the army set etc.

It might save you a little bit in postage but don't Mantic offer it free over £25 anyway (so, all three 'orders' would be free) and the discounts about what you'd get from a retailer. It seems to me to be a means of funding the production of the 8th race, or what evers coming up after the 8th race. No bad thing though, just more options for people.

^ This isn't a DFG deal, 8th race sculpts are already done, and a bunch of people have seen the models.

As always, the option is being provided for a minority of people (I'm not one of them) who are happy to buy in bulk in advance from Mantic without seeing the models in exchange for being the first to get their orders shipped.

As long as people are happy to do this, Mantic will continue to do big pre-order deals, it wouldn't make any business sense for them not to do so.

The only worrying thing about the announcement is the "serious stock shortages" line. That's kinda putting me off of pre-ordering the Corp from anyone, since I have a policy of never buying anything unless it is actually on a shelf, in a warehouse.

That isn't what it says. This is what it says:

"If ordering in sterling from outside the UK we are unable to honour the free shipping on orders over £25."

From my reading, if you order in USD you will get free shipping.

    Re: Mantic Elite

Well, the deadline for registering for Mantic Elite is the 29th of february and Pandora and the 8th race are going to be revealed next week, so there's plenty of time to make up your mind and not buy blind, so it's all good ! Hopefully they'll have actual pics of the 8th race models. From the bits of Pandora art I think they will be awesome and I'm crossing my fingers for full restic range...

I more meant the actual production as opposed to the sculpts - if there going full restic again, then I should imagine its quite a chunky investment. If not in the 8th race, then perhaps the next one? I dunno, its a very odd scheme for them to do generally.

As always, the option is being provided for a minority of people (I'm not one of them) who are happy to buy in bulk in advance from Mantic without seeing the models in exchange for being the first to get their orders shipped.
Shouldn't the first be those who've pre-ordered first? Didn't they get uploaded around christmas?

I wouldn't worry about it - they probably haven't full anticipated the demand, much like WGF did when they released the great coats. Theres a fairly hefty market for sci fi troopers. On the flip side, lets not forget the highly limited dreadfleet sets...

Hmm, I think they messed up the pricing in USD... 160 USD vs 125 pounds. I knew this was too good to be true. To be consistent with the conversion rate they use on the website, the price in USD should be around 200. I suppose they'll fix it soon...
