Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

    Hello,

I've finally sorted out (one of) my new year's resolutions - to get back on my wargaming blog and update it once a week! So as well as the general blog post each Friday, I thought I'd try and update here as well. I've never been good at sticking to one army - I tend to jump between projects as the fancy takes me, so it's never going to be a coherent army blog from week to week. At the moment, it's mostly Epic Armageddon, with a decent amount of 40k, Warmachine and Malifaux thrown in.

I've been working on trying to finish off some of my epic Eldar, finishing a guardian formation and an Aspect Warriors warhost. I've also started on my Epic-scale Thousand Sons, finishing two objective markers, a handful of dreadnaughts and a Warphound titan

Very cool Epic stuff. Not my game (or scale) but I can definitely appreciate the attention to detail.

Thank you When my friends first started collecting Epic all those years ago and suggested I play, my first reaction was 'yes, but there's no way I'm painting them!' Now I've come to actually enjoy painting 6mm models

Another Friday, another blog post! As usual, you can read it all here: http://forgotmytea.blogspot.com

I managed to get in a 4K game with the Thousand Sons this week, which ended with the boys in blue on the losing side 2-1 at the end of turn 4. Still, this was the first time I've taken them to the field, so given that I'm still working out how to write an effective list and use them properly I'm happy with that

On the painting front, I've finised my Phantom titan! One down, one to go I've also finished a second Scorpion tank, and made some headway on the Thousand Sons - although they're taking a lot longer to paint than I expected!

And, after a month or two of putting it off, I've finished off my crashed spaceship, which makes a rather impressive piece of scenery for epic.

Next week I've got three days off work before going on holiday with my better half, so will hopefully make some serious headway on the Thousand Sons.

Wohoo, it's that time again! I got a couple of days off work this week - mostly because they roll over in March and I had loads left - so I've managed to power on through the epic-scale Thousand Sons! They're a delight to paint, and while each formation does take a while (possible as I've decided I need to paint all the gold trim ), I'm really enjoying working through them.

And all of the painted models so far! Good grief there's so many left to paint...

I'm meaning to do some more Warmachine or some of the random models cluttering up my painting station this coming week, but at this rate I might just get to work on my epic-scale Rubric Terminators!

Lovely stuff! I love 6mm gaming myself (I play HotT in 6mm) and can understand the joy perfectly well.

I do have 1 question though... for the crashed shuttle terrain, I could see it being very nice pieces of terrain for Epic (I never thought of that!) but wouldn't the one with the cockpit be a little out of place? Not that I actually mind you using it or anything, just curious. I'm very open to these things.

Thank you! I know what you mean about 6mm, it's somehow taken over from 28mm as my regular favoured scale :P

With the shuttle, yeah, the cockpit is a bit weird for epic. I like to think of it as more sort of a brigde / viewing deck. There is also a 40k-scale auspex and ration pack on that section as well, though, so I might need to think about doing some conversion work on that one

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

And so another Friday rolls around. This week was one of those where I started lots of projects and (perhaps unsurprisingly) finished very few of them. I've been mostly working on my Thousand Sons, finishing a group of epic-scale Land Raiders and a third-party model from the excellent American company Crocodile Games to act as a scribe-come-sorcerer:

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

    Hello again!

Complete change of pace this week - I've been working on mostly 28mm scale models rather than my usual 6mm. In particular, I finished my first Malifaux gang - Seamus the Mad Hatter and the Red Chapel gang. I still haven't actually played Malifaux at all, but I love the models so much. Next up I'll either do Molly Squidpidge, or get to work on my second Malifaux gang!

    Seamus the Mad Hatter.

    The Rotten Belles.

    Madame Sybelle.

I've also painted another sorcerer for my Thousand Sons (because any self-respecting Thousand Sons player can never have enough sorcerers!), as well as converting and painting a drummer for my uruk hai. It's always irked me that you can only get a scout uruk-hai musician when 99% of the time you'll want the musician in an armoured uruk-hai formation, so I've converted one from a plastic uruk hai, a Napoleonic drum (I think?) and a bit of copper wire. I'm really pleased with how he turned out, and have a second one waiting to be painted.

    Thousand Sons sorcerer.

    My armoured uruk-hai drummer.

And, last but by no means least, I've painted the wonderful Death model from MicroArt Studio's Discworld range! I decided to do him in a more colourful robe than the traditional black in a style inspired by Josh Kirby's art - and becuase highlight black is not something I relish! And he even has Death of Rats sculpted on his base!

    Death.

As usual, there's more pictures, ramblings and details on my blog - http://forgotmytea.blogspot.com/

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

Hi, sorry for the silence last week - unfortunately I didn't get any painting in, just my first Malifaux game (which you can see on the blog ). Anyway, the Malifaux theme's continued this week, with Sonnia Criid and her witch-hunters being my second Malifaux gang to be painted! I was going for a far more muted colour scheme than the Mad Hatter, using a lot of browns to keep the colour scheme neutral. The red acts as a secondary colour to tie them all together, and I tried to make it a bit more prominent on the leaders. I'm particularly pleased with Sonnia - both her fiery red hair and the spec-ops style bodysuit she wears under the long coat.

Hopefully, it'll be wood elves next week! Got a campaign coming up in four weeks time and most of a 2000pt list to paint

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

Another week, another blog post! I've been working through some more of my Wood Elves - only three weeks until the campaign kicks off, and I want at least half of my 2000pt list painted. So far (including this week's additions) I'm at 663pts - maybe time to paint a tooled-up lord?

The mighty Treeman! This model was great fun to paint. I wanted the vines, leaves, sprites etc. to really stand out from the bark to add colour and vibrancy to the model. I'm also pleased with the converted detailed base - unfortunately you can't see it in this picture, but amongst other features it's even got a beastman being strangled by vines.

Glade Guard unit number two! Two painted, one to go...

Thanks for reading - got a few more pictures in my Dakka gallery and on my blog at http://forgotmytea.blogspot.com

Despite the callings of my new love Malifaux, I've been good and kept focusing on painting wood elves for this upcoming campaign. The Tree Kin are now done, as well as one of my heroes (who knew Aenur was really a wood elf!? ). I'm getting close to finishing the Spell Singer as well, but thought I'd hold her back until she's finished - there we go, a teaser for next week!

I've also squeezed in another Malifaux battle report, this time written in a narrative style. It's always fun to write a narrative that accurately depicts the battle while not being an incredibly boring, incredibly long fight scene :P Here it is: http://ow.ly/agGMQ

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

I've been focusing on just one model this week - a combination of wanting to do a really good job on it and having no sand to base anything else :P So, here's the Spell Weaver who'll be leading my Wood Elves. I'm pretty pleased with how she turned out, but of course any comments are always appreciated!

    My Spell Weaver

And a shot from the reverse.

I also feel like I should apologise for how much this plog skips around. I know it's far easier and more fun to read a straight progression of an army, and my style of Malifaux one week, wood elves the next, epic the one after etc. is very disjointed. I'm just not very good at sticking to one project - it's the same with books, games, TV shows etc. where I tend to have multiple on the go at once. I'd really like to be able to do a dedicated plog for my wood elves, another for Malifaux etc., but I know within a few weeks I'd have stopped regularly updating as I turn towards other things. So thank you for reading, and I hope that goes some way to explaining the mish-mash of models that make up this log

Still sticking with the Wood Elves for another week

So, the campaign starts next week! I've managed to meet (and exceed) my aim of having half the army painted, with nearly 3 quarters done and the remainder half-painted. This week I've finished off all of my Dryads for a total of twenty-four, as well as painting both eagles and treating myself to painting Skaw the Falconer in a rather darker colour scheme to bring him up-to-date with the rest of the army. Full waffle and pictures are on my blog! http://forgotmytea.blogspot.co.uk/20...e-for-war.html

Skaw the Falconer and his eagle friends. I'm pleased with how the colour scheme turned out, and think that he fits in rather well now.

    Hello again to any viewer(s?)

I've been working on the wood elves again this week - I didn't realise at the outset I'd manage this level of dedication, or I'd have done a proper log lol. Anyway, I've been working on the army banner and some more of the ubiquitous Glade Guard, as well as getting a campaign game in which you can read all about here: http://forgotmytea.blogspot.co.uk/20...es-to-war.html

The battle standard bearer - as yet, with no detail on the banner as I'm too chicken to try

Re: Forgotmytea's random mishmash of modelling blog

Still sticking with the asrai - and I've finished painting my 2000pt army list! Painted the wardancers this week, who weren't as bad as I was expecting once I realised that I didn't have to paint each tattoo as a crazy intricate pattern. There's still some glade riders, more glade guard and a couple of heroes to paint, but I'm really pleased that I can field my 2000pt force fully painted now Will try and get some pictures up soon, but for now, here's the wardancers:

On the gaming front, my asrai went up against the undead this week. Things went pretty badly for the first two turns with my inability to pass a leadership test, my wardancers panicking off the table without even seeing combat, and my Spell Weaver miscasting twice and blowing up most of a unit of glade guard. Things turned around when Heinrich Kemmler also miscast, and was dragged into the vortex of chaos. With the undead army slowed, I finally managed to move my elves into position to set up a couple of fire lanes to whittle down the now-crumbling undead, and by turn 5 the board was clear of undead models for a wood elf victory! Special praise must go to the tree kin, who broke through the undead lines right at the beginning of the game to end up behind them for some timely flank and rear charges, and the treeman, who (with the help of Regrowth) notched up an impressive kill total of a Terrorgheist, a Mortis Engine, two units of skeletons and Krell.

As always, it's all here: http://forgotmytea.blogspot.co.uk/20...y-painted.html and any comments are always appreciated.

I like the blue and green combination on your wood elves. When I get round to my wood elf pile of plastic I'll most likely go for a similar colour scheme.
