Honestly, I have grown tired of the entire gaming world in the past few years. There has not been a game out that I would love to sink my teeth in for a very long time. Of course, there are a couple of PC games I would play, but I will NOT buy an uber PC every year just to play some videogame. I have been perfectly content with some old school DOS and PS2 games, but nothing new could strike my fancy.

That, and the next might offend some of you, I am sorry but this is how I feel;
MMORPG players that don't know how to RP or even come up with a cool sounding name. Seriously, why must I run into Sephiroth666 in every other MMO? It's the reason I quit playing MMOs altogether. The only one I liked was a true RP server for Ultima Online, but that just took way more time than I have nowadays to really be into.

My biggest complaint with MMO's is the Tank/DPS/Healer paradigm, it annoys the living hell out of me.

I guess I'm not dissapointed if TOR is a WoW clone, because I've never played WoW, nor am I allowed to by the fiance....

That's exactly what I mean by 'WoW clone'; the player type paradigm you mentioned (I'm not up to speed on the history of MMORPG's so I can't say for certain if it was WoW that started that off, but that's the information I'd heard). I don't like being forced to have to use two lightsabers, or only take light armor, if I want to specialise in dealing damage. I like even less getting saddled with stupid powers like making all enemies focus on attacking me...when there's no one else to attack ¬_¬

TOR gives every class a healing build. Honesly I played WoW for two years and checked out all the expansions and I must have missed the part where it was a story driven MMO with companion characters, crew skills, space combat and a class system that let the player choose the role they wanted within a broad context. So very much not a clone, in my opinion.

True. I would say TOR is a WoW-clone in only the broadest sense. Which makes it not a clone at all, but rather just a game with similar mechanics at times. Which is most games, considering how WoW has mechanics that were pretty standard for MMOs even before its release and subsequent popularity.

Yep, in my opinion SW:TOR did what WoW did, take all the best of existing MMOs, refine them and add some new features.

For the Jedi Knight?
I was under the impression the choices were: go 'tank' as a Guardian, or 'dps' as a Sentinel(?) with two sabers. I only wanted one saber for the iconic look, so I declined the Sentinel.

I can't speak for Damocles8, but like I said, I was always under the impression it was WoW that introduced the tank/dps/healer paradigm into RPG's. I'm open to being corrected.

It was prevalent in Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot and Shadowbane before it. At least those are the ones I played with release dates before WoW. I thought the so-called Holy Trinity was pioneered by pen-and-paper RPGs anyways? Cleric-Fighter-Rogue being the original D&D classes, correct?

Ha, no ,you're right, Jedi Knight and Sith Marauder don't get healing skills, they are either DPS or tanking. But still being able to tank, dps or heal with each of the other three classes doesn't really fit in with WoWs paradigm. SWTOR isn't innovative, but it takes the best of MMOs and refines it. WoW wasn't innovative, it took the best of its predecessors and refined it. I think the expectation that SWTOr would break the mould of MMOs was ridiculous and something Bioware never claimed it would do. It WAS revolutionary in the sense of being the first fully voiced, predominately story driven MMO, but not in any other sense. I also don't think SWTOR will be a WoW killer, but I hate the idea of a WoWkiller. It would be like claiming Burger King was going to be a McDonalds killer.

Well I think they dropped the ball with TOR, by going away from the KOTOR syste, and switching to the WoW system of characters.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. Also, funny you should mention that on PnP RGP format, as again with TOR, my first foray into RPG's was with a non-traditional game (World of Darkness)

Something that has sadly been carried over into D&D 4th Ed, to an extent. That always confused me, 'cos in my experience the hyperactive, hyper-competitive people who are also MMO players are very unlikely to play anything as "slow" and team-based as a traditional pnp rpg. There is lots of crossover between "real" roleplayers and MMOrpgers, but the different formats are usually played for different reasons, to obtain different experiences, much like racing in Need for Speed is extremely different to the peak-hour crawl to work
