I got a start on an ever growing Necron army. I'm more of a gamer than a painter, but I still enjoy a nice looking army. It has been a while since I have worked on any major painting projects after finishing most of my Chaos about a year ago. Mostly everything has been assembled minus a few odds and ends.
What I have assembled so far...
3 Annihilation Barges
3 Ghost Arks
25 Warriors
6 various Crypteks
4 Necron Lords/Overlords
Stormlord
9 Scarabs
10 Immortals
C'tan Shard (Nightbringer)
I decided to go with a red color scheme over the standard green. I did like the approach GW with their Khemri look but I wanted a different color. To start things out, I chose an annihilation barge since it is a medium sized model. I do use an airbrush a lot so a lot of my paints are brands you'd find in a craft store due to cost. Mixed with testor's airbrush thinner and water there's no issue. The barge was coated dark burgundy over black. Using heavy drybrushing, I applied a darker crimson red then drybrushed a coat of brighter crimson. Highlighting was done with vallejo blood red. The metallics are pretty standard, using black ink on the boltgun instead of devlin mud to go with a more oily appearance. I did some quick cleanup and applied vallejo matte varnish after this picture was taken. Basing is still TBD. I'm leaning towards a dark grey ash waste with green crystals. Making the crystals green on the bases would draw out some the rest of the model for a good balance.
Though not my original idea, I've been working on a Harbinger of Despair (Veil of Darkness). The staff was taken from a few parts pinned together. The upper half a is a deathmark rifle connected by the blade from a warscythe. The lower handle is from a hyperphase sword. The spine comes from the lychguard box
