Should be an Arachnarok base. Hellcannon won't fit on a Screaming Bell base, except when you leave out the crew and the chains. And I do not know how the base makes it an (even) easier target for cannons, usually you can see the Hellcannon from pretty anywhere anyways.

The base would make it easier to hit with template weapons including cannons as it will have a much bigger footprint. The Arachnarok base is so long it is hard to miss from front on with a cannon (excluding misfires).

It makes it a much easier target for stone throwers. Cannons are pretty accurate for anything from the front with at least a chariot base, but it means they're an easy shot from all angles.

The amount of detail on the skulls on the barrel looks really good in the picture. If it holds up in the store I might buy one.

Finecast appears to be quite a good medium for large models such as this one. In fact sometimes it even comes with a pricedrop! I'm not a fan of it for smaller models but on things like hellcannons it's great stuff! No more nightmarish assembly!

Well, I can tell you the amount of detail is equally fine on the metal one. I'd not compare Finecast and Metal in terms of details, but in terms of easier assembly, or because the FC one is cheaper. But the detail is exactly the same, the metal one is a model with stunning details!

Now that's a miniature with some skulls that I can get behind. See how it works, GW? Just a little bit of restraint in the skull department please.

    It's a great looking model.

I've still got my metal Hellcannon, unassembled. I cleaned up all the bits, test-fitted them... and just broke down, it simply doesn't fit together. If that can be guaranteed (as nearly as possible) to be OK in the Finecast version, I'll happily put the metal one on eBay. I just hope there's not too many bubbles.

The hardest bit is fitting the two barrel halves together. With the metal version, some castings were not straight, so you had to live with a really big gap between the barrel halves. This problem should be easier to deal with come the finecast version, since you can bend it if you heat it up a bit, eg with hot water. Also, all the dingly dangly stuff like chains and so on will be easier to glue on... I am really looking forward to the finecast Hellcannon.

    Re: Finecast Hellcannon in March

On the metal one there are a couple of ball and socket style joints that are meant to help the barrel halves align. They don't help so it's a bit easier to get a flush fit if you just remove the balls.

My barrel was bent like two bananas. Had a hell (haha) to assembly it. And since its metal, I don't even wanna think about what would happen if you dropped it. On topic though, I will buy one of these.

should have contacted GW - they would have sent you a new one when you provide them with pics... then you have two and put one on the workbench with a thick piece of cloth and wood to set it straight!

I thought the metal Hellcannon was in such a shape because the mould was near its end? Anyways, I look forward to the FC HC (har har har), but if I really buy one, I'll put it on a Trygon base as well, it would look odd to have two Hellcannons made of different materials mounted on different bases!

The mould? Moulds for metal models get redone every now and then. If that wasn't the case, the poor stone trolls would look nothing like trolls anymore... compared to that kind of models, the hellcanon isn't that old.

Hmm, very true Urgat. Well, I didn't have many problems with mine either, as I said earlier: Assembling an Arachnarok without the instructions is torture, the Hellcannon just needs bit of time and Green Stuff.

I'm also in the no trouble category. I heard nightmares about it, but glued it together one piece at a time (as opposed to my usual try to glue everything at once method).
What a horrible night to have a curse.
