Red Scorpions, Reaver titan and Warhound log

this is going to be my log for my red scorpions army. I've been painting for a while but have never really finished an army, i have alot more than is shown here and will hopefully start to get through it now, since i am taking a break from my ogre kingdoms. any comments or recommendations are welcome, its always good to hear from others..... I have recently acquired an airbrush and weathering powders which makes vehicle painting much easier and quicker, and i have been practising new techniques on them, such as muddy tracks etc, chips, and general weathering.

the weathering on the Landraider so far is more for testing purposes.although this one will stay like this on this side, i still need to finish painting it, as you can probably tell in the close up shots. any other advice for adding wethering, is welcomed. thanks

Looking great! How'd you do the mud on the tracks? It's really convincing...

the mud recipe is as follows, a healthy squirt of water effects (like pva), another healthy squirt of realistic water (like water), a teaspoon of baking powder, half teaspoon of light green static grass, half teaspoon of yellow static grass, dark brown weathering powder, a squirt of dark brown paint, and a squirt of black paint, teaspoon of plain flour and a few drops of water. it actually behaves like real mud, dries like real mud, and when water is re-added it returns to a slushy muddy constistency. im pretty pleased with how it has come out, so it will come in handy for future products, hopefully other people will find it useful. I'm going to start on my Helios land raider this week.

Thanks for the feedback so far,ill get more photos this week, i got a terminator assault squad today so i want to get that painted up!

    Re: Red scorpions project log

so i finally got some more done on this log, i went back and made changes to to the raider, using the hairspray/salt weathering technique and then using oil paints to add in more depth. im much more pleased with the results now, so all the tanks will be painted this exact same way..i also did some testing on a terminator for final colour scheme

    Re: Red scorpions project log

here are some up close shots of the battle damage and weathering i have added to this tank. i have gone for a battleworn look. using flicked on oil paints for mud splashes; thinned oil paints in crevices and for water marked effect on side; using a pencil along the edges of some lines and on alot of the rivets to give a subtle metal look; weather powders here and there, for rust etc, and as previously mentioned the salt and hairspray weathering technique. in addition i tried painting some chips onto the edges of the armour and then highlighting with boltgun metal. im not sure whether these look a bit cartoony and take away from the more realistic look im going for. hope these are of use anyway

and the final few of the tank upto now...

and back to the terminator i was trying out previously... i washed the whole armour with a mix of dark brown and red ochre weathering powder, mixed with water, once dry,i started to wipe it away with a damp tissue...im quite pleased with the overall look and feel it fits better with how the vehicles will be.
