In an attempt to keep my Black Templar army as cheap as possible, since I'm splashing out on my Terminators, as well as needing to buy 2 Land Speeders and 3 Razorbacks, I used some old models I had hanging around from an eBay lot.

I started with some one-pose old AOBR and Battle for Macragge Space Marines. These are all very good for your standard bolter Marines, but I need some Plasma gunners, not to mention I wanted to make maximum use of the Black Templar iconography on the GW shoulder pads I bought on eBay. I know it's not ideal, but since I only have a few, I opted to go for right-shoulder only for the BT pad. I know it's not fluff-correct, but it'll do for now.

    1. Chop the arms off:

    2. Using spare bolters from the Death Company box set I then repositioned some cooler looking weapons onto the mini. Please note the right-hand shoulder pad has been left bare because my pads haven't arrived yet!

I made a couple of Plasma Gun Initiates:

    3. Since BT Crusader squads don't have Sergeants, I thought of just doing them all the same. However I wanted to have a nominated squad leader, so I used a AOBR marine and a magazine from a spare Storm Bolter to create these chaps:

It will also help in case the next Codex has Sergeants in it, I now have a mini that looks different enough to act as the squad leader!

And here's the first Crusader squad:

Since I ran out of Plasma Guns, I kitbashed one from a Flamer and Plasma Pistol. It looks better IRL...

    Next stop - painting them!

    I'm glad you like them.

Thanks for the offer on the AOBR guys, but I've got all the bits for the Crusader squads I need. Cheers though.

Every Black Templars army needs its Emperor's Champion:

First try was this one, but I decided he looked too much like a Dark Angel.

Good use of the grey knight arms, the grey knights box has a lot of very good looking two-handed poses, which is surprisingly rare amongst marines. I'll have to make use of them someday, though cutting those stormbolters off will be a pain.

Not at all, it's genuinely very easy.

Even better if you have a purity seal to cover up the chopped bit!

Thanks for all the feedback. Glad to know you like it.

After a brief break, I'm back at it with the Templars. Here's last night's work. I still need to do some highlights, base him and drill the barrels, but please fire away with some CnC!
