Re: Hobgoblins and Dogs of War

Thanks for the rumours, Phantomtie. I've been waiting for new wolves for sooooo long. Would love to make a Wolfrider horde. And Hobgoblins have always been a personal favourite of mine.

As for the Tilea, Estalia, Kislev, and Araby stuff... Yes please!

Is there any indication of a timeframe for this new book ?

    Thanks Phantomtie!!

I'm very excited about these rumors. It would be great to see some new fluff & stuff about the forgotten places in the old world.

    cheers,

Hmm. It's a bit odd that there's no rumors about bull centaurs.

I wonder if the common gobbos will get new rider figures (as well as the new wolf), I really hope so. Although saddles, if true, would be suprising. Goblins always rode bare-back...

Just checked out the pics of the wolves, definite saddle space on those guys. I might even get a box for miscellaneous mounts, maybe put some barbarians on them.

Do the wolves have cybernetic parts or can you make all 5 wolves in the plastic set without them? Would be great if GW could update all the models that currently use wolves with these new ones. I'm tempted to pick up a box to replace the old ones I have from Grom's chariot.

I'm not sure if my post is lumped in with the 'rude' crowd or not, if so, I wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to clarify that I wasn't coming out in support of the rumour itself, just that the rumour made sense.

I would like to point out that only thunder wolves are ridden by space marines....

those come in a pack of three....

but the Fenrisian wolves come in a pack of five...
and if you look at the way the bases are made and even the models it would suggest that you could easily use them for fantasy models
because they are standard wolves with nothing on them.

I think you could easily make them work with hob goblin wolf riders ei a goblin with a saddle... but the thunder wolves are really BIG and on the same sprue.

IM going to use them as dire wolves.........

While this rumour does sound fairly convincing (there is definitely space there for a saddle - to the extent that I was planning on ordering some wolves and converting hobgoblins for them anyway) I'm a bit surprised I'd not heard about this "straight from the horse's mouth", so to speak. But hey, maybe... it's certainly feasible, and I'd like it to be true. I'll put my conversions on hold for a little while and see what happens.

I can certainly believe Forge World would leap at the chance to make some Hobgoblin wolf riders and take advantage of the fantastic new wolf sprue. And i'm very much looking forward to seeing what they produce. Their Chaos Dwarfs are just the right blend of old style aesthetics and new design elements, so i expect their Hobgoblins to hark back to the classic models while still being new and unique.

It'd be nice to see the Dogs of War return, even if its a more disparate format than in the past. One would hope that the future rules presented by Forge World can be used to represent already existing Mercenary units, to allow their players to return their current armies to the field.

I'm a DOW player and the best way I think to represent ROR would be to do some mercenary captains like scrolls of bindings. You could then try and incorporate the scrolls of bindings into the normal games people play by allowing them to take scrolls of bindings, monster and ROR captains, as rare.

I'd prefer that main GW make araby.

Kislev would be nice, perhaps a new model for Katharina including new rules for the ice and snow lore?

I don't think that's likely to come about.
But the surest way of making it happen, of course, is to buy any Forge World stuff that's released for that particular army. The 40k side of things have shown that if something proves to be truly popular with Forge World there's a chance of it crossing over to a studio production. If sales for Forge World Araby are consistently good, then the next time the design studio considers developing a new force for fantasy that'll play in their favour.

I've been told GW is making Araby and just about every other mercenary force mentioned above + fishmen and insects. Harrys old rumor, which still hasn't been disproven If I remember correctly Kislev is supposed to be released as a white dwarf supplement in march. It'd be cool of both these rumors were correct and fw released bigger mercenary things, araby elephants perhaps?

Re: Hobgoblins and Dogs of War

I'm not "in the know", but March sounds incredibly unlikely. These supplements were (AFAIK) only mentioned by ghost, who .. well, let's not start this again.

I'd like to see Kislev once more, but I can't imagine it. Not that soon, or that surprising. Then again, GW tends to pump out surprises every now and then...

I would say its far more likely that it's Forge World intending to release them than the GW studio, because its a project far better suited to their system of releases and design process. A series of books, detailing the forces and conflicts of a specific region or time frame. Sounds familiar doesn't it and one perfect for introducing the less common races of the Warhammer world.
