Red Scorpions Revamp

Since im burnt out of painting nids at the moment, im revisiting my red scorpions. I feel I can now paint better, and have a better camera, so hopefully have done them more justice now! Anyway, heres some photos of what ive done so far, with more to follow in the next few weeks as I re-do my poorly painted models!

Ive gone for a black look, while I like the grey most people go for, personally I prefer the contrast between the yellow and the pure black armour.

Looking really good so far. Great look to them. The contemptor needs something to break up the solid black. But overall, really really good.

Looking great! I would personally highligth the bone a bit more on the chaplain and Legion of the damned to break up the big black areas. Maybe some additional shading on the grey parts of the sternguard aswell.
I love the look of these so keep up the work

Ive got some etched brass and on the way which I intend to use to add some red scorpions icons to the dread, I was hoping that would break the black up a bit.

I agree about the bone, they are the first marines I painted and struggled with the bone parts. Ive been messing about with some better ways to do it but it still comes out a bit dark, I will figure something out though!

Anyway, I just finished the land raider (until the etched brass arrives, going to add a symbol to each side ones it does)

Just a quick update to keep myself motivated, more WIP

Ironclad dread. This is actually the first model I painted in black but im going to add weathering and bring it up to the level of the other stuff, and obviously finish the powerfist arm. Im also going to rebase it completely as it was before the time when I bothered to paint the slate!

I also do have some painted up tac marines, but they were in the old scheme (charidon granite washed with black, rather than all black, with much brighter yellow) and look pretty messy and I dont like them so will post them when re-painted.

Quick update, as I havent done one in a while, just painted a sergeant for my tactical squad. Not happy with it as I rushed the highlighting and its really sloppy, but its done for now and I just wanted an update to keep me motivated!

Heres the first tactical squad. These were done ages ago but I needed to rebase them before I was happy with them.

They were done when I used charedon granite washed with black as the basecoat, which I dont like and now everythings just black. But I cant be bothered to repaint them.

There is no heavy weapon in there as I am painting up 12 devestators and swap in whatever weapon I want for the game.

spaghettyhoop - very nice marines, I like how the the black and yellow contrast. The land raider and all the models look suitblly dirty (unlike some models). Will you drill out the bolt guns?

Ive been thinking about drilling out the guns, so far on my recent ones ive just been painting black "holes" on the end of the barrels, as im scared of damaging the models. However, ive since gotten some smaller drill bits so im going to test it out on my next tactical squad and see how it goes!

Ive just finished Sevrin Loth, kinda anyway. Hes a bit sloppy and im gonna tidy up the shading tomorrow night after work.

So, to motivate myself, some more WIP shots. I tend to work on a few squads at a time, so I go a while without finishing anything, then a load of stuff seems to be finished in a short burst of time!
