"Terra Torn Asunder" theme gaming board & terrain

Hi guys and welcome to my terrain project log!

I already own a gaming table with a good deal of terrain pieces but as I made it available for use on various tournaments of our club so far it is in a rather bad condition. Many people simply don't appreciate the work invested in building and painting good looking terrain and thus treat it badly.

I decided to "donate" the gaming board inclusive the terrain to our club and build a new one for private purpose only, i.e. when I play with friends at my place. It will be the best looking terrain I've built so far and will match my Lost and the Damned and Iron Warriors relating to base design, details and gimmicks.

For the center of the board I plan on building a 2 to 3 stories high bombed tenement block. The ground floor's windows will be boarded up so it serves as a line of sight blocker. Around this I'll build four 2 stories high buildings. The outskrits will be filled by 4 Czech hedgehogs, 4 craters, and a tank wreck. I'm really looking forward to this project for my semester break. Please subscribe!

I already built and painted the craters and Czech hegdehogs:

Today's update features only a small piece: the (former) driver of the planned Imperial Fists Rhino wreck.

Done! The tower's finished and I'm quite content with the outcome. The rust effect on the top will dissolve a little bit once the matt varnish is applied.

Thanks! It's simply Tamiya Clear Red, mixed with some little Chaos Black.

Re: "Terra Torn Asunder" theme gaming board & terrain

I've spent several hours with cutting und glueing yesterday and today and now I've done with the 5 ruins (my cat also likes them):

Now I only have to find the sheet of balsa wood which must be somewhere here and then I can start boarding up some of the windows. And as soon as I'm back at my apartment I'll add some sand and rubble.

    @ all
    Thanks for your comments!

Yep, that Clear Red is simply awesome stuff. I'd like to use it in huge quantities on every single mini, but unless I play some Khorne dedicated army it'd look odd.

The ruins are made of footfall sound insulation from the DIY store.

Today I'll board the windows up with some wooden coffee sticks I got from McDonald's yesterday evening as I simply couldn't find my sheet of balsa wood...

You, good sir, have a gift. And you are using it well. Judging from what you have already painted, I can only assume that your table is going to be amazing!! Keep up.

Fantastic work. How are you going to make the rubble?

I also like the "bio-titan" you have in the pic with the ruins (I'm a cat person).

First I thought I'd fill the corners of the walls with some modelling clay and cover those slopes with sand and bricks, but then I realized how annoying it'd be to place models there without them toppling over all the time. So I just added some sand on the flat surfaces of the floors.
I also fancy cats a lot.

I'm currently painting on 3 of the ruins and I think I'll finish them today. There's not much to do yet.

    Thank you!

As I said I finished the first 3 ruins today (unfortunately, one hardly sees the highlights on the concrete):

No comments at all for the ruins?

However, I glued the tank wreck on its base and applied sand on the base. Now this terrain piece is ready to be primed and painted. Once this is done, the previously showed dead Imperial Fist will be added.

I love the Imperial Propaganda posters you put on the ruins, my Brother and I did a similar thing on some of our terrain and its little-touches like that which add realism to the scenery. I also like how they look like they are part of an actual warzone; if you were defending that building you'd want to board up some walls for protection! The razorback is a great idea; again it'll make the battlefield look more realistic and is an idea I may have to borrow if that's okay?
Can't wait to see the finished board, its looking good so far!
