    Greenpeace goes Infinity

    Hello people!

So, I've slowly been sucked into Infinity.

Usually I have a hard time maintaining interest in a single project, and this has seriously hindered me from ever achieving any army larger than 1000 pts in the Warhammer systems (as regular followers of my logs will know...). Infinity feels like it will give me the opportunity to focus on way fewer models and spend more time on each one, which suits me much better.

I had a really hard time deciding which faction to go with, as they all, except maybe CA, appealed to me in some way. I settled on doing some kind of Mercenary force early on, but I still had the problem that I didn't really like any of the factions' line infantry options. Eventually, I found the Halqa, which I liked the look of, but still needed some kind of background for the army before diving in. Yeah, I work that way...

After some long hours of thinking and discarding various options (pure mercenaries, illegal art dealers, street gang, future Pirate Bay people, and more) I finally thought of Greenpeace. Somewhere in the fluff I read about Green Action or something (can't find it again though, so if somebody knows where it is, linky me!), and felt that of course Greenpeace still remains!

Albeit in a more violent, terrorist way. Think communist guerilla groups in India but with environment protection on their mind.

Thinking it through a bit more, the research profile of Haqqislam fits well into future Greenpeace's area of interest, and I decided that they are sponsors of the group, so therefore most of their equipment comes from the Caliphate. This would allow me to use not only the Halqa, but also the Djanbazan sniper and Janissaire, two other favourite models. And hackers. I need hackers. So the Ghulam hacker, it is.

Thought it through for a while, logged in to Maelstrom, and pressed the order button.

Cue a week of waiting, with all this painting/modelling energy built up already. No good. So I started making some terrain out of random leftovers here at home, and will hopefully make some more.

Still waiting for the Janissaire, Djanbazan and Ghulam, but here are the first Halqa and the terrain, hope you like it!

    All the best,
    BTB

In the hope that somebody is watching, I'll commit the heresy of double post though, as a second Halqa is finished:

    Re: Greenpeace goes Infinity

I looked up my order from Maelstrom, and it hasn't even been shipped yet, so won't be here until at the earliest next week. Anybody has bad experiences with shipping times from them?

So due to lack of models I started on some more scenery, and I got the SAAB car in the mail as well. Here's the WIPs, hopefully I can detail them more and paint them during the weekend.

On the car's base I'll paint up three parking spaces, with the SAAB straddling two, and maybe add some junk to the farthest one. The big round thing is supposed to be the ever present silo of the board, containing some random fluid. Together with the white concrete building and the fuel/waste containers, it makes up a small Sinopec station for intra-company use, probably storage of cleaning chemicals or some other inward-oriented part of the business, explaining its presence in this remote and slummy area.

I haven't ordered from maelstrom games before. I have had good service though from Miniatures Market and Wayland Games. In fact, I ordered all my Yu-Jing/JSA stuff from Wayland Games and it shipped within a day or so. Hope you get your stuff soon, perhaps Maelstrom just has a lot of orders.

Looking forward to seeing how that new piece of scenery turns out. It reminds me a lot of fuel holds for aircraft (seen a lot of those living on air bases). That SAAb car also looking interesting.

I also have to ask, how did you do your white and grey for your troops?

I basecoat chaos black, spray skull white from above and 45° in every direction, basecoat the white areas with fortress grey and then increasing amounts of skull white for highlights, with the first highlight having some ice blue instead of skull white, until reaching pure skull white which I do a couple of layers of. Finally I add some watered down baal red washes on the downward facing areas, followed by badab black lining. It souds like a lot of steps, but really is very straightforward.

Of course! I googled various terms like "anime posters" or just "posters" and pasted a choice selection of results into a photoshop document, which I then printed. I don't know if it's OK to post the document here, but if it is I could upload it here for you. But the process if very simple, and you'll probably get best results by just googling yourself and picking posters which fit your table.

Woah no kidding? Its just paper cut outs? How did you get them to look so smooth? Did you paint thinned PVA glue on them?

Yes, the posters are just paper cut outs, I glue them on with PVA glue and then dirty them down lightly when dry with codex grey and bestial brown to blend them in.

Finished the car/parking lot scenery piece. Maelstrom order still listed as "processing"...

    Re: Greenpeace goes Infinity

Be sure to post pics when you do!

I'm also happy with the weathering, though yes, the windows are a bit clean. Had a hard time figuring out how to dirty them down without losing transparency, and in the end went for some light washes on select areas, but due to the material of the glass they mostly didn't stick. I'm figuring that the car might be old and rusty, but not really damaged, due to the smooth traffic of the future...

The silo is mostly finished btw, so pics of that tomorrow, need to grab some sleep now!

    As promised, Silo pics:

And a family picture, since I've now managed to fill a shelf worth of stuff:

Really happy about how this turned out, I was worried about painting such a ridiculously huge and flat surface at first.

    Re: Greenpeace goes Infinity

So, this is where you've been hiding out. I see a distinct lack of pointy elven or dead things, tut tut.

In all seriousness though, I really like those scenery pieces. It's nice to see intact but dilapadated stuff rather than the 40k norm of bombed and ruined to all hell. The little touches like the posters are great.

I've never been entirely sold on the Infinity range - for every model I see that I like, about 3 or 4 more put me off immensely. I;m entrusting you to change my mind Beat - no pressure

Looking forward to seeing more, when your mythical Maelstrom order does eventually turn up....

    Re: Greenpeace goes Infinity

Huh... I am 100% certain I have replied to this before. WTF.

Anyway, huge thanks mate! Yes, distinct lack of elves and vampires, you know I have difficulties keeping to one army haha! Hopefully this will change though, or rather be contained, as Infinity's small army size means switching between armies isn't really an issue. As for the models... I feel you, a lot of models just aren't good, on the other hand the ones that are good are amazing (and an absolute, absolute joy to paint), and due to the well balanced system you can just merrily pick the ones you like for your army.

    In short; Challenge accepted

That mythical Maestrom order, yes... Cursing the lack of Infinity retailers in Sweden every day now.

    Cheers,
    BTB

Wow, that scenery looks amazing, aswell as the miniatures. Any chance you need more players for this game? How many miniatures would I be looking at if I were to join you.

The greenpeace soldiers look exactly like I envision militant greenpeace people : D awesome!

    Re: Greenpeace goes Infinity

Thanks mate! Yes, I definitely do, Would love to play this against you, you need about 5-10 models, if you order from Maelstrom (and all the items are in stock, IMPORTANT...) you should have them within a week and the whole army will set you back about 300 kronor... the rules are all free to get at www.infinitythegame.com, and there's also an official forum there which has great people and advice.

Got a mail reply from Maelstrom saying they'll ship my stuff early this week, and then I'll have a playable force of 5 models for my Greenpeace, and two for the beginning of the PanOceanian anti-terrorist cell that's hunting them down. This size of armies is more my cup of tea than the Fantasy/40k ones!

Damn you Beat. I caved and ordered some bits. Bit of a random selection but it is intended for some Inq28 action. I totally lay the blame at your door though. Anyways, looking forward to seeing more from you. Hopefully Maelstromget off thier arses for you soon.
