    ARMY: Mordheim Boyz Mob

    UNIT: Da Boyz!

HIGHS: I've always wanted an excuse to paint up some boys, when my local started up a little mordheim league I figured it was time. Cobbling together a few of Ruglud's Iron orcs, some gobos, and a couple of squigs I hit a full mob in no time

LOWS: My camera missed half the contrast in the highlights..... In real life, the flesh color is very nicely highlighted....

POINTS: 500 gold crowns (I'd call it a solid 200)

    DICE ROLL: 2

    NEXT MONTH: Back to OGRES!

(Looks like I still struggling with the new warseer format.
Can anyone tell me how to post full sized pics hosted through warseer)

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 6 (Feb painting and Mar WIP

@azhagmorglum Really nice orcs, very strong colors. Where is the Black orc on the extreme left in your second picture from? His face is very characterful, and reminds me of the orcs from the Lord of the Rings cartoon version. Is it just an OOP Black Orc?

@Tekore Love the treeman. The base is really phenomenal, it looks like Spring!

@Great horned owl Great job on the Swordmaster. I like the vibrant reds and the creamy robes.

@EmperorNorton I really like the Highborn, especially the metals on the cold one. The painting is very neat on the crossbowmen, but the pictures make them look a little flat.

@Braad Great job on the Goblin Big Boss. The spider is nicely done and suitably creepy.

@Purplebeard Great job, as usual. The stonethrowers look great, I particularly like the ropes. The Imperial Dwarves are coming along well too.

@Shandowner I love the greens and blues on the test mini. Looking forward to seeing your completed minis.

@Zark the Damned Nice work this month, the army as a whole is quite impressive.

@doomscape I like the dwarves a lot. I worry the armor blends into the bases, however. The bronze bloodcrushers are fantastic, and I think the green on the bloodletters works very well. The Tomb Kings are great, the vibrant blue is so striking!

@JackDaw Excellent work, as usual. I’m a little afraid I’m missing some depth to the color because of the lighting. Is it just me?

@DAGabriel I like the hobgoblins so far. They look quite wicked and unpleasant.

@colonel kane trine I approve wholeheartedly of the bigger, clearer picture. The fire on the Firebelly is nicely done, and I like the green on the beatmen.

@z4carlo Glad you’re back. I’ve always liked the blue and white color scheme you’ve chosen, and I’m quite impressed with the OSL on the wizard, particularly considering your disclaimer about how much time he took.

@Loki73 The boars look phenomenal. The Savage Orcs are really suited to the shade of green you’ve chosen, too.

@Laborious The Giant is nicely done, I like how you’ve added some knick knacks to draw the eye.

@gargobot Good job as always. Your colors are so smooth and strong!

@grhino I am very impressed with this month’s work. It’s all very strong. I particularly like the color scheme for the eagle, and I think it’s very well executed.

@Saulot Great wrk on the men at arms, particularly like the leather. Really lifelike.

@Confessor_Atol I really like those Orcs. The checks in particular are just perfectly painted. Regarding the pics, I just use urls from my photobucket account using [IMG] tags on either side. Seems to work fine for me.

I only mentioned jokers as so far I havent used one at all. I have submitted painting every month and im proud of that fact. So to see jokers all over the place was something I wanted to mention.
When you update the table for next month please just make it 3xmens chaos ogres not 3 ogres and 3 chaos.
I wont want it changing again and im sorry if it seemed I messed you about.
No, that's just fine, just wanted to make sure that we both know what the other wants here. I changed it to 3x chaos ogres. However, if I get the numbers right, that means you finished them, as the total I have here already exceeds 6000. Is that correct?

As far as I know you are ahead, so no need for jokers.

Apart from that... I'm nearly done with 5 chaos hounds for someone elses army, and in the mean time I'm painting up an orc battle standard bearer based on a blood bowl star player. Hopefully I get to buy a joker back at the end of the month.

@ Iamjack42 : the odd black orc is a metal black orc body, combined with a metal boss head from when the plastic orc box came out first (around 2000 if I'm not mistaken). At that time the plastic regiments had a blister in the box with metal parts to do the command group.
This conversion was inspired by another member on warseer, I think it's HiDeke.

Really enjoying the tale and seeing so much getting done by everyone

@azhagmorglum-Love your orks! the skin is perfect! how did you paint the red on those black orcs? The army shot is looking great too
@Tekore-that treeman model is looking cool is it lots of different browns with washes?

The obsidian wardens are looking great as a unit and lve the conversions. The chariot is awesome and those cold ones are perfect! How did you paint them? can you guess that i like your army alot? :P
@iamjack42-like the lustria theme ive never seen high elves done like that! very unique and well thought out scheme
@DAGabriel-love those hobgoblins the new shields definately suit them! be good to see the completed
@Tekore-cant wait to see those completed! A full unit of those will be amazing!
@z4carlo-love the priest looks way better with the shield instead of the 2nd hand weapon! How did you do the blue on his robes? i really like it! The swordsmen are looking really good id like to see a unit of those all ranked up! Probably one of my favourite empire schemes ever! The wizard is great too how did you do those grey robes? Im rubbish at painting robes and the schemes you have done are exactly what im wanting to do!
@loki73-Those savages are looking damn good! perfect green skin and nice boars! How did you do the blue warpaint?
@laborious-nice looking model you have there! how was the blue skin painted?
@gargobot-nice looking flamers i like the purple on the main body of them! looking good!
@grhino-those elves look beautiful! and looking forward to seeing the chaos units painted will we see them in the tale? how is the manticore as a kit to assemble and stuff?
@saulot-nice looking men at arms there! very clean and neat looking
@confessor_Atol-those orcs are awesome! is ruglud the guy with the 2 swords? i love that model dont thing ive ever seen it before! very nice painting nice and dark! perfect for mordheim!

    Replies to replies
@azhagmorglum-the jabberslythe is an amazing model easy to assemble and work with! I have heard alot of slagging off of finecast but my experience of it has been nothing but perfect! I was dubious abot buying a box where i couldnt see into the box at the parts but once home and opened my fears were quelled! it was great to assemble and easy to paint. Needed a tiny bit of greenstuffing though
@braad-thankyou for sorting that out for me and sorry for the confusion! I am carrying on with the chaos ogres even though im past 6k so ill aim for 10k.. how many points have i actually done so far and how many months do we have left? ill stick to doing at least 600 points
a month until the tale ends.I will hopefully go past 10k so ill say that its my goal

    Dawi : 2000 POINTS (MEN)

UNIT: 20 Rangers with Full command & a Master Engineer.

    BACKGROUND/THEME:

BUILD/CONVERSION: Minimal conversion, these are the current plastic crossbowdwarves, with a BfSP thunderer standard with the pistols chopped off. Now I have no idea where the master engineer is from, or if he's even a GW fig.

PAINTING: For the metal, chainmail, with a badab black wash then a chainmail drybrush, For the skin, Tallern flesh with an ogryn flesh wash and a dwarf flesh drybrush. The gold was gryphonne sepia over chainmail and the same yellow as the rest of my throng.

BASING: Was done the same as the rest of the Dawi.

    STILL TO DO: Nothing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Not really any highs or lows this time round. Although I would like to know where that engineer mini comes from, so if anyone has any idea I'd be grateful if you could enlighten me.

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 430

    TOTAL POINTS: 1755

    Rangers:

    Master Engineer:

    Army so far:

Next month: I’m not sure, maybe some Hammerers.

    Lizardmen : 2000 POINTS (Men)

    UNIT: Skink Priest

    BACKGROUND/THEME:

    BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversion at all.

PAINTING: The skin is the same as my other skinks. I noticed I've forgotten to do the claws teeth and eyes too Oh well next month I'll have them done. Gold is gryphonne sepia over chainmail. And the cloak is a few different colours and I gave it a light drybrush of white as well.

BASING: Sand, painted black with a heavy vermin brown drybrush.

STILL TO DO: Just the base.

HIGHS AND LOWS: I really like this mini, infact the lustria skinks are some of my favourite minis around.

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 150

    TOTAL POINTS: 1243

    Priest front:

    Priest Back:

    Army so far:

Next month: I should really make a start on my Saurus regiments, or maybe temple guard. But I'll probably do another skink priest because I'm lazy.

Sorry mate! My fault, I worked from an old copy of my template and didn't double check the point costs!

I've re-done it using your table, which I have the utmost confidence in, unlike my memory

    Time for comments;

    Page 1
azhagmorglum - nice work, the colours look realy nice and clean. love the the wood on the stone thrower too.
Tekore - I like that treeman model, looks lithe and dangerous rather than avoidably slow!
Great horned owl - that swordmaster champion was one of the first models I ever painted, brings back memories! youve done them realy nicely, as allways love the bases.
EmperorNorton - love the noble, the purple red and green of the cold one realy go together well.
Braad - I think the model is great and youve done it realy nicely but have to agree with some others in that the stripes on the legs are a little too clean, they dont look natural.
Purplebeard - great use of minatures again, that lords stance is very powerful and imposing, good find.
Shandowner - wow those bull centaurs are brilliant, I would never have thought to combine those 2 kits.
Zark the Damned - great selection of minatures there, the army as a whole looks wonderful.
doomscape - bugman and his rangers are wonderful models, had them a long time ago, seeing yours makes me so wish I still did making me genuinely sad here haha! I absolutely love the blue on the khemri it realy pops out.
JackDaw - so clean and crisp as allways, and as usual realy origonal conversions the censer staff/halberds are a realy nice touch.
iamjack42 - realy like that bronze metallic youve achieved looks realy natural and worn.
DAGabriel - what a great unit, never seen hobgoblins done that well before.
colonel kane trine - an impressive months haul, that beastlord is another of my favourite models. looks like you still have pleanty to get done as nearly all of us do!

    Page 2 and 3
Loki73 - just wow, ive allways wanted to do a savage orc (and goblin ) army and this is exactly how it looks in my dreams!
Labourious - as best as I can tell from the picture that ettin's skin has been flawlessly blended realy great stuff!
Gargobot - wonderful bold colours that realy bring out the details of the models
grhino - the pictures are a little grainy but the griffon looks realy great I love the while/brown contrast on the feathers and the way you have achived it on the neck.
Saulot - a megre but beautifully done addition to your force, all the colours look to be blended so well.
Confessor_Atol - those dags are realy well done as are all the colours.
perplexiti - great additions the colours you have used for the skinks feather cloak are just perfect, and I would love to know were you got the engineer from too, was about to ask when I realised you didnt know!

    And replies;
@ colonel kane trine - the two colours you asked about are both realy easy, they are just Mordian Blue and Adeptus Battle grey basecoat followed by a heavy wash of Badab then brought back up to the basecoat colour with the addition of a little of my spit ( not to be too crude ) to help blend it in as best as possible. Thats it...
Will get a pic of the swordsmen unit up next month possibly a whole army shot too if there is space on my overcrowded painting table!

generally just glad to be back, the comments realy do help to keep me motivated thanks everyone and keep up the good work!

@perplexiti: The Engineer is an '80s figure - he came in a set with a Tinman (yes, like the one from Wizard of Oz). Later on, GW put him in the Engineers/Miners range.
You have a lot of footsloggers done btw - you are putting me to shame!

Anyway, I'll post comments nad updates later on today.

    @purplebeard:

Thank you o wise longbeard! It's great to know where he's from, and he's officially my oldest mini now! And thanks man, there's still a regiment of hammerers to come as well.

  15. #55

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 6 (Feb painting and Mar WIP

@perplexiti: Haha. I'm not exactly a 'wise longbeard' yet. All the info about this stuff is on solegends.com and stunties.com. Hammerers are always good; I look forward to them.

    WIP Stuff:

I've been busy this month. Having managed to get hold of some bases, I have finally mounted up a load of the Imperial Dwarves:

    Imperial Dwarf group shot

Some oldies finally based up. These aren't counting towards my points as they were painted pre-Tale. <sigh>

    Spear unit

Handgunners (yes - the champion and musician will be repainted!)

    Sword-Dwarfs. Lots of them.

Because I'm proxying Empire with these guys, I'm going to have to get them ALL finished. And some more artillery, and characters. Squishy humans are cheap, cheap, cheap in Warhammer. I wouldn't mind but my painting speed is slow. <groan>

On the plus side, WK's figures are a lot of fun to paint, and I have made a decent start already. I'm going to aim to get the Handgunners and Cannon done first, then the ponies, and then the rest. This lot should keep me busy for a fair while.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 6 (Feb painting and Mar WIP

    Little Extra WIP update:

I've also done been working on a couple of figures for the Dwarf army. I've held back a bit because I'm ahead on these guys but behind on everything else (Chaos, Imperial Dwarves, Gnomes).

    Couple of characters

    Bugman/Ranger Champion

    Engineer

I have finally gotten around to getting Bugman painted, so that I can complete my Ranger unit. The device on the banner is a button, with a tiny plastic shield (with the obligatory 'B') stuck in the middle. The other fella is an Engineer. Both need a bit more work - Bugman is a bit rough atm.

    page 1:

@azhagmorglum: Lovely skin tone again on these guys, and the stonethrower looks great. I do think the armour of the Black Orcs could use some chipping and weathering etc. very bright and clean ATM. Not too much, mind!

@tekore: Wonderful treeman. clever use of two shades on the bark and nicely blended together.

@Great horned owl: Fantastic looking unit. The banner looks great (probably all that practice you got on the first one! )

@emperor norton: Sorry about your finecast problems The end product looks great though, and the crossbowman kitbash works wonderfully.

@Braad: Hehe, i love it! Except for the last picture!

@purplebeard: Great work. The models themselves look great and fit in really well, and the paintjob, as usual, is excellent. Your pony riders are officially the cutest models ever. :P

@shandowner: What a fantastic idea for Bull centaurs, brilliant conversions. Can't wait to see some paint on them.

@zark the damned: Good work. I especially like Lorenzo, one of my favourite of the old DOW models. Army shoot looks epic!

@doomscape: Nice work on some wonderfully characterful old dwarven models. The bloodcrushers look great, really nicely weathered brass. I'm liking that bright blue on the tombkings, contrasts nicely with the bone.

@Jackdaw: Simply beautiful (dread lady). The cloak is brilliantly layered and that hair is superb. The other units are all fantastic as well, particularly the cold ones.

@iamjack: Nicely done. the jewels are particularly well done.

@DAGabriel: My favourite unit of the tale so far! Love the colour palette you've chosen, and that is the best movement tray EVER! :P

@colonel kane trine: impressive output, as usual - that's a scary amount of ungors!

    @z4carlo: Brilliant conversion and paintjob.

    Page 2:

    z4carlo: Nice OSL.

@loki: cracking boarboyz, how did you do the flesh on their snouts?

@gargobot: great flamers. But i thought it was horrors that were supposed to multiply?

@grhino: I love those phoenix guard, but how many marauders is that?!

@saulot: quality not quantity. Lovely as usual.

    Page 3:

@confessor Atol: Oooh, I'd forgotten they even made old Ruglud. Really nice weathering on his sword and armour.

@perplexti: Nice work, i love that engineer model. I don't think he's GW though, anyone recognise him? Loving the priests cloak.

Thanks for your comments guys. The skin started of with a base layer of Vallejo model colour Pale blue, washed with Asurman blue and then I just spent the next few painting sessions gradually reapplying pale blue with increasing amounts of ivory mixed in before washing the whole thing with a wash of asurman blue/leviathan purple and devlan mud to tie it all together. Think it was about 6 or 7 layers all told.

@Purplebeard, I forgot about that site. Great idea with that button BTW, Well my hammerers have no actual hammerer models, they're all pretty much warrior minis from a variety of GW kits and I think it's Drong from that old campaign pack, the one with the two-handed hammer over his head anyway.

It's 50 of them... Now working on getting my TK spearmen to 50 as well, and getting another three Ushabti done. Might actually be able to add them to this month's achievements...

Been doing some painting tonight and it looks as if I may actually make this month's points... Ushabti and those 25 spear skellies are nearly done. Pictures coming up tomorrow morning probably!
