    Modelling hair.

I've just purchased a Dark Path Mounted Sorceress for a steal. It's a great model, but I want to model some extra bits on it. It'll be more Chaos-like. I can do spiky bits, but I've never done hair beyond touching up fur areas. I'd like to create two long pigtails (or something else if I find a good example).

Current plan- Take two lengths of picture hanging wire, roll some kneadite over it and bend it into shape. Then add Chaosy hair ties and sculpt some hair.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial or have advice for the hair. Dragging my modelling knife through semi cured kneadite probably won't cut it like it does for fur.

    Cheers!

A rather good material for hair textures is acrylic modeling paste. You can brush this on and the brush strokes provide the texture, so for hair, you want to stroke in the direction the hair is going in. I´d use kneadite as a basis if you have hair features that move quite a bit away from the head.
The beard ans mustache on this guy was done with that technique:

You can use putty to sculpt hair, green will do but some others like brown and grey are better as they hold edges better.
When creating the creases in hair the individual strands of hair (in between the creases) become convex (1), to have hair look good (and not like dreadlocks) these strands should be angular (2). You can achieve this by retracing all creases with a sharp angular tool and pushing the putty at an angle (3).

As for some other ideas, I to converted a Dark Path mounted sorceress, first I cut away the sculcap, then scuped some hair on her head and glued one of the succubi tails from the DE whych sprue on top (the other one is a braid). You shold be able to get them on bits sites.

Here's a picture of the end result, more in my plog.

Good luck with your model, I hope this was of any help to you.

    Re: Modelling hair.

Thanks for the replies guys! As I'd like my sorceress' hair to be flying in the wind I think Symrivven's technique will be used, although using thick brush strokes in paste will be useful in my marauders and warriors.

Symrivven... that's a great job on the sorceress. Hope I can match you!

    Cheers,

    Re: Modelling hair.

Hmm... my reply didn't seem to appear.

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys!

The acrylic putty and brush technique might come in handy when working on marauders and chaos warriors. For my sorceress, I'd like her hair wind whipped. Symrivven, thanks for the advice... your sorceress looks great! I hope I can achieve something like that.

    Cheers!
