Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 7 (FEB completed work & MAR WIP)

Well done to everyone who's posted so far. Comment time from me:

@djc: Lovely work on the Vets and their tank. The Sergeant looks really mean, and the non blue/green plasmagun scheme works really well too.

@Xazil: Another good looking Dreadnought. I like all the little yellow details.

@colonel kane trine: Yet another huge month points wise - well done! I like the additional colour of the 'white' cloaks/rags, it contrasts really well with the colour of your Necrons.

@Niveus Procer: That's a heck of a lot of stuff you've posted this month! Do you plan on using the Captains as other models (such as Sergeants), or did you just really like the model? Even though you've got four Battlewagons, you've used the bits really well and made them look individual (which is just how Orks should be). I think my favourite is the black/red one on the far right of the group pic, because it looks bigger than the rest.

@dangermouse425: Your squad looks fine to me, and I like the bone colour on the shoulder pads. You've got a lovely mix of models there too - I spy some 2nd edition Missile Launchers, and both the Macragge and Black Reach Sergeants!

@Doi: Well done on getting a legal army painted, there's no stopping you now! The classic Big Shoota conversions look good, and I like the yellow helmets too. I know what you mean about Grotz (I've got a box for later in the Tale to bring me up to 30), but on the plus side they are only half the size of an Ork too so they're much quicker/easier to paint.

@matt_17: That's a lovely looking tank you've got there. I wouldn't have guessed about the transfer issue if you hadn't pointed it out, but it looks fine to me as battle damage. The red/yellow/blue details are great too.

@punkfish: More great work this month. Your Praetorians are very dark compared to the 'Eavy Metal paint jobs, but I think they suit it really well. I love the white bearded Sergeant too, it really helps him stand out frmo the rest of the squad.

@Zujara: Another great tank. The weathering is awesome once again, and making the fuel tank a slightly different shade to the main body is a nice touch.

No worries razor, we know you're good for it.

I'm cracking on with some 'Ardboyz this month and I've nearly finished 5 so far, so I'm not doing too badly. I am getting a bit distracted by Imperial Armour 8 at the moment though, which I bought from Warhammer World at Black Library Live last weekend. It's making me want to paint a Dread Mob for a future Tale...
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Misterboff i love your skull hamma the blue is a magnificent collour for the orkz its unexpected but fits well same with razors orkz

Djc those are some awesome moels, im guessing you are converting these? they look great

Xazil i love dreadnoughts a close combate dead is scarry

colonel kane trine necrons are a nasty nasty beast now and the red is a great differ from the green and i like it it goes well with the walking undead when and if i ever get to necrons im considering a blue.

dangermouse425 they look great i personaly hate painting red on black it never comes out well for me. but im not a tallented painter

Doi orkz are a pain to paint for points. you can paint 180 models and not break 1,000 points and then grotz. ahh they are awesome little models but ehh haha paint a battle wagon

matt_17 well done the cammo paint sceeme and the weathering on the tank is geat and the vet squad you should make a stop motion video with these if you have time

punkfish i like these i look at them and think, lobsterback with the russian hate. haha. which i think when gw made guard was very much thier intent

Zujara this tank is supurb its well done to the fullest as for a messy desk. i need a work area of my own and its hard to keep it not clutterd

    and to comments of comments

Misterboff, the battle wagon you speak of is acutally a differnt build. it has the ard case on it which allows the kannon upgrade to **** back farther, my favriot and my pictures do not do it justic is thrakas battle wagon its the one on the left,

Do them in batches of ten. Not only will it be a managable amount of work, you also get a playable chunk of models every time. And most importantly: you won't get insane.

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 7 (FEB completed work & MAR WIP)

    Perplexiti’s Space Wolves: 2012

    MONTHLY TOTAL: 390

    TOTAL TO DATE: 2150

    JOKERS USED: 0

    BACKGROUND/THEME: Ragnar Blackmane’s Great Company.

UNIT(S): Bjorn the Fell-handed and an Iron priest with servitors.

BUILD/CONVERSIONS: Only a small conversion, his pack is the one from the normal techmarine. I know he can't actually use it, but damn doesn't it look cool! I also put him on a 40mm base.

PAINTING/BASING: Basecoated black, then a Fenris grey coat, with very heavy drybrushes of shadow grey then spacewolf grey. The metal bits were chainmail with a badab black wash. The gold is gryphonne sepia over chainmail.

STILL TO DO: Nothing but the basing, I've decided to sit down at the end of the tale and base all of them at once.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No lows again, I love all the classic wolf stuff, and he looks great with the servo-harness. I've also included the points for the servo-harness, I'll be using it when I play at home.

NEXT MONTH: Some Termie Wolf Guard.

I am just going to burn my second joker. I have 9 nobs more than 85% done and the same with about 38+ boys etc. I have a crap load of work done. its just not 100% complete. so I think I would like to just post everything next month and buy my two jokers back.
So It would be 400+ points of stuff.

    Page 1:

@misterboff: They look fantastic man, you're really keeping your high standard up!

@djc: Great work with the Bestigor, they look really nice.....well not 'nice' but you know what I mean right?

@Xazil: Cool dread man, looking good.

@colonel kane trine: Nice necrons mate, very menacing.

@ Niveus Procer: Well done man! That's a power of work.

@dangermouse425: They look good, tidely done mate! And you can always go back later and slap a wash on bits and bobs

@Doi: Orks are looking good man, that simple conversion is pretty effective though.

@matt_17: Great camo on the chimera.

@punkfish: It's really nice to see some praetorians in the tale, and the look cool too.

@Zujara: The weathering looks great man.

I've got twenty lined up for this month so I'll be painting them in one go (I normally batch paint 10 models at once but these guys are small). I have thirty next month though so I may split that one into two sets of 15...

@misterboff: white shoulder pads were a nice touch, and still fits with the blue.

@djc: Love the beastmen conversions, and nice use of the severed heads on your chimera

@Xazil: Excellent Ironclad, I love your dark blue

@colonel kane trine: I like the reds, very striking with the metallic necrons

@Niveus Procer: Great effort this month to get those jokers back, hope i can pull off the same this month!

    @dangermouse425: Great red and bases

@Doi: Really like the big shoota conversion, simple but it stands out.

@matt_17: Clever way of hiding the transfer problem, will keep that in mind. camo scheme is great too

@punkfish: Very striking uniforms, they turned out great.

@perplexiti: Great work, the classic wolf miniatures always bring back good memories!

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 7 (FEB completed work & MAR WIP)

Comments time, so here we go.

misterboff - Very good, very orky. The red eyes stick out from the blue faces nicely.

djc - Excellent work. The chimera's nice, but it doesn't compare to the beastmen vets. Those guys are awesome. The quality of the conversions and the crispness of the paintwork is spectacular.

Xazil - I'm loving the richness of that blue. Its dark, but doesn't obscure the shapes that its painted on, which can be a difficulty with using dark colours. Also makes the brighter areas pop nicely.

colone kane trine - Nice, fittingly scary Necrons. The rust is very well executed.

Niveus Procer - Good Lord, man! You've done more than my entire tale in a month... that's quite remarkable. I think the dreadnought is my favourite of the work you've posted this month.

dangermouse425 - I don't think I've ever seen Blood Angels making use of Devastators before, but I guess every assault marine appreciates some missiles heading for his enemies first. Looking good.

Doi - Orkses... Oh how I love seeing crowds of orkses. The big shootas are good.

punkfish - The red adn black colour sscheme is really striking in both concept and execution here. I'm loving these guys.

Zujara - Very, very nice tank. Often with grey vehicles my personal feeling is that they just end up looking like they're still plastic. Even without the rather excellently done weathering here the grey is very nice and has the kind of depth that I find is often lacking in grey vehicles.

perplexiti - Good looking stuff going on here. The techmarine is very intimidating and looks very, well... techy. And do I see a sentinel plasma cannon on that Bjorn conversion?
Chaos Marines Project Log - Just a click away... you know you want to...

    Record as of new CSM Codex: 8 wins/ 2 losses/ 0 draws
    Record as of new Daemons Codex: 1 wins/ 1 losses/ 0 draws
    IG + Daemons Allies: 17 wins (7 tablings, 8 crushing victories, 2 1-VP scrapes)/ 0 losses/ 1 draw

@matt_17: Yes, yes you do. I had a plastic dread that I won an auction for a right handed dread ccw for, so turned it into a furioso for my son's blood angels, he decided to sell them all so he could start tyranids, but I kept the plastic arms from the set for my Bjorn. I wanted a plasma cannon but didn't want to pay for one so voila!

Hey guys sorry to have to say this but im leaving the tale.
40k was always my second love after fantasy. I fall in and out of favour with it but never keep my enthusiasm for it that long.
Necrons were an 'ooh shiny' spur of the moment thing for me.
I got a good fantasy offer for them and they have a new home.

Thankyou to everyone in the tale especially misterboff

I will pop in time to time to check the new entries from everyone
Keep up the goodwork and I hope you all achieve your goals with your armies!

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2011-2012 MONTH 7 (FEB completed work & MAR WIP)

    Hi guys...

I’m afraid I’m, pretty much, out of the tale. But you’ve probably already figured that one out...

To make a long, and rather painful, story short, I’m simply not feeling well right now.

Having to start repaying my student loan while being unemployed, and trying to keep up with several “Tales of...” threads, knocked me out completely and brought on a second round of stress and depression. I honestly thought I was over that, but apparently my health was a bit more fragile that I had anticipated.

Well, good news is that I have finally gotten myself a job that I like and, despite the first few months being really hectic, I’m doing quite well. All things considered, anyway...

Bad news is that the last few years have taken a much harder toll on my body that I thought. And now it seems I might have developed some kind of stomach ulcer, or other ailment affecting my stomach, necessitating yet another round of hospitalizations.

Yeah, I’m having SO much fun...

So I haven’t gotten anything done on my boarboyz since the last update. And I doubt I’ll get much done on them over the coming months. Certainly not enough to keep up with this tale...

I might just hang around and offer a comment every now and again. But I can’t promise any painting or converting. Perhaps, with a bit of luck, I can get the boarboyz converted in time for next year’s tale so I can concentrate on painting them instead. Who knows...?

f2k, so sorry to hear about that. I hope you get well soon. Real life is so much more important than toy soldiers, I think everybody understands that you want to focus on that part. Best wishes, good luck. Looking forward to seeing you back again as soon as possible.

djc - Love the conversions on the beastmen and the weathering on the chimeara. The guns fit into the fantasy models well.

colonel kane trine - Sorry to see you go. The red scheme on the necrons was very striking.

Niveus Procer - Nice trucks and I like the ramshackle deffrollas on front, brings the orkiness.

dangermouse425 - A simple but effective couple of units, bet they still look great in play.

Doi - Great addition to the waaugh. Nice seeing snow bases and there is some very nice detailing on them.

matt_17 - Love the camoflage paint, wish I had the patience to attempt those. Good weathering/battle damage as well.

punkfish - More classic models with a handsome paint scheme. Great quality.

Zujara - Forgeworld goodness given the effort to bring it out, love the detailing and weathering.

SuperMitch - Nice seeing even unfinished sisters. Keep up the good work.

perplexiti - Great grungy space wolfness. The iron priest sure looks mean. Of course Bjorn also brings the looks too.

f2k - Also sorry to hear, hopefully things pick up.

Sorry to lose you colonel kane trine, especially as you've managed to make such impressive starts with both Tyranids and Necrons. If you keep up the same pace with your Fantasy armies though I'm sure you'll get plenty done for them too.

Sorry to lose you too f2k - I hope your job goes well and your health improves. Gimzod was looking good before his accident, and as a fellow Ork player I looked forward to seeing what progress you made on your Boarboyz.

A quick question from me: with us being halfway through the Tale, are the Citadel Paint changes going to affect anyone? Personally, I should have enough of my existing colours to finish the Tale with, but I'll probably use the new colours when I expand my Dark Eldar (as it won't matter too much if my Warriors are slightly different from my Wyches).
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.
