Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

    Hi! My favourite legion are:

    Night Lords
These guys are just awesome. I really like their fall from grace - a legion devoted to harsh, but fair justice against the enemies of mankind, that are turned into terror brining, sadistic criminals by an uncaring galaxy. Also, the skulls and colour schemes are great, as are the Altremar (?) and assault troops

    Konrad Curze
This guy is brilliant, and the depth of his character is great ; living in the streets, hunting down the scum of Nostramo, but still dedicated to justice despite this... then a slow descent into madness as the morale of his legion detoriates. I love the his split personality, which is reflected in his actions in the Horus Heresy. Also, he is my favourite Primarch because, in the end, he was the only one who truly accepted his faults. I mean, who else what let themselves die when they realised what they had done? Certainly not the rebel primarchs after 10,000 years! Only he, out of all the primarchs, saw within himself the loathsome personality that had taken root, the very thing he had once fought to destroy. In the end, Konrad Curze was the best of them.

i love the fluff of the nightlords and their primarch, but the current models available put me off, if there was ever a nice looking infantry kit for them i might make a small force, i also really like the alpha legions fluff

i like the world eater's visually and do collect them, but not a big fan of their current fluff incarnation, so i would say its a tie for me between the iron hands and ferrus manus or the iron warriors and peterburo as i like their army styles and fluff and think they would both be fun to make an army of (plus i love techmarines!!)

NL armour i.e. the bat helm is the ceremonial armour, its only worn once in the night lord books and thats because the marine wants to show pride in his legion.

    OT

Thousand sons for me, tragic yet distinctive and I love the models (just not the assembling) not a huge fan of Magnus as his fluff keeps changing, I am waiting for more on the Iron Warriors.

For me, it's almost a tie between The Word Bearers, and The Thousand Sons.
What intrigues me about them is the way both legions are two of the most innocently loyal who for similiar reasons are misunderstood, rebuked and cencored by the one they hold as the highest example in a way that makes them question themselves and everything they stand for, only to be driven into the open arms of chaos. Of these two however, it's the Word Bearers that marginally wins and thus became my adopted legion.

As for favourite primarch, both Lorgar and Magnus is too naïve and childish to suffice. My favourite primarch(s) instead are the Alpharius/Omegon twins. Their sense of strategy and modus operandi is far more appealing. Especially the way they merge with their legion in a way no other primarch does.

No contest - it has to be the Raven Guard and Corax. Why? I just like the way the fluff depicts their tactics: use scouts, find high value/critical targets and then take them out.

My favourite Legion and Primarch tends to vary depending on who was featured in the last Horus Heresy book i read

But typically i have always been fond of Sanguinius, ever since i read Codex Angels of Death 16 years ago. His nobility and heroic self-sacrifice really appealed to me. I've also got a fondness for the Lion and the Dark Angels, again thanks to that venerable tome. Perhaps it's like a persons favourite Doctor from Doctor Who, it tends to be the first one they were exposed to.

Favourite Legion? Certainly the Thousand Sons, though I've also a lot of respect for the World Eaters for the huge amount of legwork they seemed to do in the Heresy. The humane warrior-scholars who could likely fight any other Legion to a strandstill and were considered one of the two greatest threats to Horus's success = awesome.

As for which Primarch? A while ago I'd have said Magnus, but ATS revealed his true Chaotic colours for me. Though he's a prat at times, Dorn's simple faith and dedication are quite appealing compared to the high-mindedness of some of th eothers.

Hm. Difficult question, actually. I think I'd probably come down on the side of the Alpha Legion, closely followed by the Ultramarines. The Alpha Legion because they fight war the way it is meant to be fought - clincally, surgically, ruthlessly; making the enemy die by the thousand while your own forces take little to no casualties. Because they use camouflage, misdirection, misinformation, intelligence, and so on and so forth - and are, when all is said and done, loyalists. Or are they? Or maybe not. Alpharius and Omegon are also pretty awesome, particularly as no-one really knows who they are (possibly not even the Emperor himself).

On the other hand, the Ultramarines are just as capable of fighting like the Alpha Legion but choose not to (mostly). They are the Legion that embodies all that is good about the Imperium's goal of human unification and progress: just look at Ultramar! And Guilliman is pretty interesting too - he's actually concerned about the common people.

Favorite primarch has to be Sanguinius. Sanguinius embodies ultimate sacrifice and loyalty amongst any of the other primarchs. I don't own and have never played blood angels but their primarch's story of standing at the eternity gate, battling demons, then finally rejecting the temptation of horus is just too cool a story.

Favorite legion has to be thousand sons. Powerful in battle but they are seekers of knowledge fist and foremost. Their crime, of course, was that they were simply wrong when it came to the warp (and their primarch unwittingly sold them out). As a identity though, the TS take the best of the astartes with the potential of humanity in their psychic abilities.

For me it has to be emperors children. Pre heresy they were seen as being the very epitome of perfection, post they have become intergalactic space perverts whats not to love. Fulgrim also cuts a tragic figure in his fall from grace, being trapped in his own body.

I've also got a wee soft spot for the iron warriors.

Back when I was young I loved Russ...

Now I'm older I appreciate the other Primarchs too. After reading Know No Fear it is now Guiliman. He is presented as an amazing leader in that novel, closely followed by Lorgar.

Favourite Legion? Has been and always will be the Iron Hands.

Russ and The Rout, all the way.

Favourite legion... It's between Word Bearers (The First Heretic was good enough to inspire me to do another Chaos army) Night Lords (even before Soul Hunter, the fluff for these guys appealed to me) and Death Guard (the idea that their morals, standards and even their combat doctrine slowly became their corrupt opposite is pretty cool.)

Favourite primarch... Out of a bunch of genetically enhanced emotional cripples, I think Lorgar is probably the most interesting. Again, The First Heretic helps. It made him into something other than a copy-and-paste warlord intent on killing cultures, and that alone makes him more human than the others.

    With regards,
    Dan.

Favourite legion for me has to be Thousand Sons, hands down, no contest. Especially pre-Heresy. As to why:

    - they look awesome, both pre- and post-Heresy.
    - they're my first (and so far only!) army.
    - they're what got me fully into playing 40k, as well as what got me into the 40k fluff side of things.
    - I absolutely love their background and story. It's just so damn tragic. They were loyal to the end, but got screwed over by absolutely everybody ever, including their own primarch. I still hold out hope for some sort of redemption for them in the future, hehehe.
    - they're as much scholars as warriors. They'll (usually) try to resolve things without violence first and preserve as much knowledge as they can.
    - when it does come down to violence, they can KILL PEOPLE WITH MIND BULLETS.

As for favourite Primarch... I have no idea yet. I'm not particularly fond of Magnus, despite loving his Legion. I don't know enough about the other Primarchs to really decide who I like yet.

+1. Out of all the Fallen Legions, the Emperor's Children became the most bonkers and uncontrollably chaotic. Falling so far from their goal of perfection and being the best one can possibly be ...But my vote still goes to the Thousand Sons, always trying to do the right thing and taking the high road even when everyone else is working against them. I like the idea that they (at least Ahriman) may still, 10000 years later, be trying to find redemption.

As for primarch, I like Ferrus Manus the most. Of all the primarchs, he seems the most human and down to earth, yet still a warlord. Where every other Primarch seems either be way to emotional, perfect or have some lame quirk I feel he is the most balanced. I like how in Fulgrim he came across as a little head strong yet tactical and level headed at the same time, and then how hurt he was when he realized Fulgrim believed he could be manipulated into a traitor. Ferrus Manus emotions and actions seemed much more believable than some of the other primarchs (Vulcan's Nihilism, Russ being a savage but still Captain Awesome and Angron being ANGRY! even when he sleeps!!1!).
