Yeah, I really like the Dark Angels. I also like Luther AND the Lion, amazingly But I really like Ferrus Manus as he is the most human of the primarchs , with all the good of the primarch and the flaws of the human. It just makes him awesome

Angels of Darkness really was effective in turning me off the idea that 'Space Marines' were any type of good guys. The Dark Angels are a perfect example of an ally you have because you need them, not because you like them. That 'the other guy is worse' doesn't really detract from their own evil

The Dark Angels. They are unpopular and sort of underdogs. That's why I like them.

But Corax most of all, he is the best.

Re: Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

Primarch: Sanguinius. Post-apoc style background, noble and positive attitude/no obvious charater flaws (yet - what's the bet they stick a few in the HH book). What I especially like is that from my reading of the scene with both Horus and Sanguinius in one of the 1st three HH books (been a long time, can't remember which one) is that the two are closer to each other than any other primarchs, and Horus later clearly expects/wants the Angel to turn. We know he doesn't turn, and I get the idea that Sanguinius is the most personally betrayed by Horus. Hopefully this will lead to a tearful, furious and emotional scene when they finally meet again on the battle barge, maybe the arguement then battle between them being the seed that makes Horus doubt himself and hold back that fatal blow (only heard about Pious recently, so it's always felt that way to me).

Legion: I am torn. BA are my army, and Sanguinius is awesome, but with the opening HH trilogy, I do like the Luna Wolves. It really comes across that they are a family with Horus as the father. The Mournival adds to that with the differeing opinions and equality which I haven't seen in other legions (most primarch seem to be like Bieber to their legionnaires Belibers...), and the battle of the loyal legionnaires on Istvaan IV against their own, standing up to Angron, knowing they will all die but trying to buy enough time to warn the emperor is a great ending. Little Horus is always a very interesting character I want to see more of...

Re: Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

Favorite Primarch? Probably Kurze. Complicated, driven, and dangerous. He beat down Dorn, sent Corax running, was sucker punched by Johnson, but still almost killed him. Only Fulgrim has accomplished more as a warrior.

Favorite legion? Probably Word Bearers. Before the Heresy, where other legions were conquering worlds to make the Imperium vast, the Word Bearers were creating worlds that would have made the Imperium great. They were rebuked, and went on a quest to discover the Truth. The Legion was extrordinarily capable. They had to be, as their Primarch was no help at all. They discovered the truth, and the great deception that the Emperor pulled on the human race. They made it their mission to reveal the lie for what it is, and expose humanity to the truth. They are the only Legion that still is a legion. Unlike other legions who were forced to convert to worship, they are true believers and converted voluntarily, which makes them some what unique. That and they are the Anti- ultramarines, which is always a plus.

Can Khan and his White Scars get no love in this forum? I always liked the White Scars and the backstory for their Primarch. Russ and the Wolves are a favorite of mine too.

I love the White Scars! They are my favorite chapter. The Raven Guard are a close second. It is almost a tie but I lean toward the White Scars.

Same with my favorite primarch. Almost a three way tie between Ferrus Manus, Corax and Khan...but I lean a little more toward Jaghatai Khan. I just wish I knew more about him. I heard that he commanded his troops from the top of a razorback once!

*Just read some info on the Alpha Legion and look forward to learning more about them.

I'm guessing if they bring an HH book out about the White Scars they're going to receive a lot of love. The fact that they were one of the defenders on Earth and given their Mongolian style of warfare I think they'll come across as just too cool not to like

For me it's the Word Bearers and Lorgar - I am fascinated by religion (I studied Theology) and I love their interest as well, the way that they uncover the lie of the Emperor and their fall from being some of his most ardent supporters into some of the most twisted and crazed chaos-worshipers out there, whose motivation is pretty much "do it for the Evilulz". I also love their paint scheme and both The First Heretic and the 40k-set Word Bearers trilogy which helps a lot.

I would have to say Magnus & the Thousand Sons simply because I get the impression that they were not rally on Horus's side and it is just a twist of fate, in essence they remained loyal. At least that is how I see it.

Re: Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

They never were on Horus' side, in fact Magnus and the scarab occult went out of their way to save Horus from chaos, and then again to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery. And Magnus let the Space wolves come, and he moved the fleet, so that he could pay for his mistake (which was due to ignorance). He didn't even fight back until they really pissed him off. Magnus would have been a good guy if the Emperor had been a good enough Psyker to see that Magnus had pure intentions, and that the real threat was Horus.

Guilliman - hands down; I won't deny the others have more facinating backstory or quirks... but he's the only person in the galaxy it seems who actually gave a damn about the people on worlds not of his own. Then you have Codex Astartes a body of work which when enacted would destroy the power base of the Legions - when you consider its architech had the most to loose with its implimentation; it really makes you think.

As for Legion... Alpha legion is the most facinating; but due to the dual... and intentially vague nature of the primarch(s) I cannot choose them as my favourite.

    What of Vulkan? Or Lorgar?

Vulkan is painted as caring hugely for the humans he was created to defend, in many senses putting it alongisde and even above swift success in battle. While pre-fall Lorgar also cared deeply for humanity, albeit that he was too much of a philosophical idealist and lacking practicality. Guilliman also clearly cared, although like every Primarch he seemed very able to file that care away when ordered to (I'm thinking of Monarchia).

Or indeed Magnus, who cared deeply about enlightening the masses to the potential of the Warp, and in general to the ideas of pursuing knowledge and wisdom. Prospero and the way its inhabitants interacted with the Astartes is evidence of this.

Re: Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

Favourite Loyalist Legion: Dark Angels. They have secrets. They have serious issues. They're doing their bit for the galaxy, but they're also living in a straitjacket of lies, deceit, pride, guilt and fear. They have something to fight for that isn't just one-dimensional "FOR THE EMPEROR!!!1!!11!" and in a galaxy of grim darkness, they don't trust anyone... not even themselves. This makes them really interesting IMO.

Favourite Traitor Legion: Word Bearers. They lived through decades of criticism, just for following the creed embedded into their very DNA. Then they proved themselves - to themselves, because they realised that the Emperor wasn't the arbiter of objective justice that they had previously been led to believe. They recognise the Emperor as a god, but have decided he's a god that's not worthy of their worship. You have to admit that's pretty badass, right? (Honourable mention: Night Lords).

Favourite Loyalist Primarch: Rogal Dorn. He, more than any other Primarch, perhaps more than anyone else in the Galaxy, had to face up to his own limitations and fears, while planning for the climactic moment in a war that he knew would decide the fate of mankind, and potentially see not only his death, but the possibly-inevitable death of his father, whom he loved and revered beyond measure. I imagine Dorn living in a frustrated, impotent rage at the sheer idiocy of what Horus and his other brothers have done; not the joyous, violent rage of Russ, but a terrible, cold anger brought about by the realisation that it should not have been this way - but now nothing will ever be the same again. (Honourable mention: Sanguinius, just for being an angel).

Favourite Traitor Primarch: Night Haunter. He knew from day one what his father had planned for him, and at first he went along with it. He tried to make his way in a galaxy in which he knew he didn't really fit. He did his best to align the Imperial creed with his own opinions... and it didn't work out. He didn't turn traitor for selfish ambition, and he wasn't tricked into it. He just decided that his way of being, his fundamental philosophy, had no place in the Imperium. He was honest in a way that few of the other Primarchs can claim, and sought only vindication for his beliefs... even if it meant his own sacrifice.

    Bonus answer:

Favourite 40K Personality: Decimus. My mind is turning cartwheels at all the possibilities of what he might decide to do, and with whose support, and how successful he might be. What are his motivations, and his goals? Will they match those of his forebear? I realise we may never find out, in fact it's probably better that we don't, but Decimus is a character whose potential is staggering... like that first girl you kissed on summer holiday, but had to go back home and have never seen her again since... but you still think of her sometimes, not knowing if she was maybe The One or just a bunny-boiler who'd have cut your balls off with rusty scissors.

Legion: Death Guard, just the way in fluff they operated and their belief.

Primarch: Dorn, he just comes across as so unshaken, and demanding and badass but at the same time his loyalty and care. He just comes across as the guy you route to win for all the right reasons.

Re: Your Favourite Legion, Primarch.. and WHY!!!

    Amen, brother.

Anyway, if the avatar wasn't a dead giveaway, Perturabo and his boys would get my vote any day of the week. Why?

Because they were somewhat of the Great Crusade's last resort - the guys you called in when things got serious and neither brute force nor fancy maneuvers could get the job done. They willingly accepted the jobs nobody else would, and they came through every time. Just to put things into perspective, if there was an obstacle formidable enough that even an Astartes legion would rather avoid, these guys would view it as a puzzle...

Because despite their success and their dedication, they ended up marginalized, and neglected (well, possibly on purpose, equally possible due to their own isolationist tendencies, but still, it's the end result that I find relevant to their story). Because they had no sudden alignment change like the Word Bearers or Sons of Horus to justify their choice of sides in the Heresy. For them, there was a slow, slippery slope from fanatically dedicated to the cause of a secular Imperium to cynical, paranoid, hateful bastards intent on destroying everything in the Imperium that was made up of more than a cardboard wall.

Because they were among the few legions who understood and made use of the fact that gene enhancement did more than just buff your body to incredible standards. Because they fought with their minds first, their guns second, and their blades as a last resort. Because keeping an enemy busy, under pressure and at distance for as long as possible is a good idea even when you're an acid-spitting beast in close quarters...

Because of basilisks, gunmetal grey vindicators with danger-striped dozer blades and obliterators. Because of bionics, servo arms and hordes of slave labor...

Because of Storm of Iron, Iron Within, and that little incident with the Iron Cage. Just to clarify these three reasons:
